If you feel a wave of a negativeemotion coming on, get up,
breathe and hydrate. Its amazinghow something so simple canquickly shift your perspective.
Even moving into an officestairwell, or stepping outside
for a few minutes can help clearyour mind and help you to startthinking clearly again.
People say the life of anentrepreneur is a lonely road.
Well, the life of an intrapreneurliving under the radar can beeven lonelier. To stay energized,
you need to give yourself a paton the back for your differentaccomplishments. Too often,
we dont acknowledge ourselvesfor all the hard work we put into
something. So take a momentto feel proud. Write down youraccomplishments so you can
easily visualize them. And keepthese accolades around youwhen you need a boost.
Susan Collin Marks, Senior VicePresident, Search for CommonGround, offered this advice tosocial entrepreneurs and intra-
preneurs at the 2013 Skoll WorldForum. Her point: you have to pri-
oritize in order not to run yourselfin the ground. And she speaksfrom experience. After ending upin hospital due to a stress-relatedillness, Susan knew something
needed to change. Now, when an
opportunity emerges, she waits24 hours before committing andasks herself Is this for me to do?Your criteria will be unique to you,
but pausing to reflect on yourpriorities will help you both to
maintain resilience and increaseyour impact.

Monitor the words you say toyourself. Are they sending youoff into a sea of negativity?
Its amazing how easily wecan switch into a negative and
fixed mindset. Thankfully itstemporary. Get savvy at spotting
when it happens, then see i f youcan pick up on any patterns in
what triggers this way of thinking.Explore how you could responddifferently to these trigger
events. Also look at the wordsyou are saying to yourself. Try to
re-frame what you are saying in amore forward-looking, open way.
Mastering this is a powerful toolin your Resilience Regime.
Resilient leaders are
characterized by a staunchview of reality. They are verylogical in their interpretations
of setbackswhat is in their
control, out of their control, and options for taking action. If you are feeling overwhelmed
or frustrated, pause and make a
list of what is realistically withinyour control to change andwhat is outside your sphere of
influence. Literally, making two
columns and identifying what youcan control will help you regainperspective and re-focus your
The mind is a powerful tool andwe are increasingly learningabout how it works and interfaces
with the rest of our body. Severalintrapreneurs we spoke with
use mindfulness meditationas a way to manage stress and
keep perspective. Mandar Apte,an intrapreneur at Shell, forexample, practices a system
of 20/20/20 20 minutesof meditation, 20 minutes ofbreathing and 20 minutes of yogaa day.
Whether you are just starting ormore evolved in your mindfulnessjourney, reconnecting with the
power of your mind is essentialto building resilience. There
are many ways to do this meditation, yoga, a walk or run
out in nature, a surf session. At the end of the day, find theactivity that helps you to clear
your mind, get centered andallows you to practice love andkindness towards yourself. Andmost importantly, make it a habit!

Over the past five years we have sought
to make social intrapreneurship partof the formula for how we think aboutchanging the world. Our initial foraysinto the field began with John Elkington
in The Social Intrapreneur A FieldGuide for Corporate Changemakers.
Building on this initial study,we stepped out and rallied greater
institutional support to invest in thecreation of a network for corporatechangemakers. In the Fall of 2012,The League of Intrapreneurs was born
with support from Ashoka, Accenture, the Inter-American InvestmentCorporation, GlaxoSmithKline,
Standard Chartered, Virgin and anumber of other partners.
The Cubicle Warriors Toolkit grows
out of our experiences working in thetrenches with leading change-agentsat large institutions. The creation of thistoolkit would not have been possiblewithout input from leading experts
and practitioners, including membersof the League of Intrapreneuers.
We would especially like to thank:
Gib Bullochat Accenture andRosario Londono at the Inter-American Investment Corporationfor their support in helping us grow
this community and contributing tothe mounting canon of knowledge inservice of social intrapreneruship.

Over the coming decades,an accelerating pace of change
will test the resilience of every
society, organization andindividual. The balance ofpromise and peril confrontingany particular organization
will depend on its capacityfor adaptation. Hence, the
most important question forany company is this: are wechanging as fast as the worldaround us?
