Roundshaw Airfield

We want to use a range of different locations for a trailer. This is a good setting to use as one as it is different and when it is a bit darker in the evenings, it will have an eerie and spooky feel to it. Furthermore, it would be very effective to film shots here of the father searching for his daughter Charlotte. Due to the fact it is such an open large field, it will create a very isolated feel for both the character Mark and the audience viewers. For the fact that it is quite an empty park/field, it will be easy for us to portray it as the sort of place no one goes to and therefore a possible location for which Charlotte is being kept kidnapped. Due to it looking like an abandoned untouched field, it creates an isolated feel as if something was to go wrong, no one would be there to help Mark. This is an ideal place to use for a scene in our trailer, as it creates a perception of coldness and fear This area can be used in Act Three when the father is looking desperately for his daughter.

A normal suburban house

Most settings in horror trailers are located in isolated areas. Due to us basing our main location on a public road surrounded by neighbours, it allows our trailer to be different and slightly eerie. This was inspired by the horror trailer of The Strangers which is set in a normal house. It heightens the fear in the trailer, as everything is very unexpected such as the intrusion of the danger. By using a normal looking house, it will allow the audience to take note that they are a typical family and were not expecting such danger to take place.

Banstead woods

Within this woods, there are quite a few fallen trees. This strengthens the idea that the Father should possibly not be alone there as it is a very isolated and eerie setting. Moreover the fact that it has many fields and space will allow us to be able to use a variety shots when Mark is running looking for Charlotte, such as a tracking shot and a pan. This will build up the creepy feel the place gives off and make our trailer more effective and interesting. It could further suggest to the audience that they are looking at the father from the eyes of the masked man as the camera is so far away. This area would be very good to be used in Act three when the father is searching for his kidnapped daughter Charlotte. This is because it comes across as a forlorn and empty place, which is the ideal location for where someone would supposedly be being kept hostage, hence why the father is looking there.

Waterloo tunnel

This would be an effective location to use in Act Three of our trailer. We thought it would be a good ending to our trailer if we were to end it on Charlotte walking down the tunnel with a man looking normal and cheerful. Using a location like this, where the walls are in lots of graffiti would be very effective to show her appearing normal in. This is because it would really confuse the audience members as the location looks unsafe and unwelcoming however she is casually walking down it with this man they have never seen before, as if nothing has happened to her. The fact that it is a very long and dark tunnel makes it seem very eerie and unsettling for the viewers as it doesnt seem like the sort of place they would want to visit or be alone in. This is typical for a horror trailer to use locations like this as it puts the audience members in an uncomfortable position as they feel frightened for the characters there. The different bright colourful colours going on in the graffiti helps to raise the confusion the audience are experiencing whilst seeing Charlotte. It also looks like quite a deserted place where no one tends to spend time in, this builds up the feeling of isolation and detachment from the outside safe world.
