The various components of the culture are being express through arts. This could be in a form of music, theater, dance, visual arts, creative writing, and media arts.

Art is a reflection of life. Historically, people long time ago may view their cultural expressions as part of their daily lives. However, as many scholars studied arts people influenced by the aesthetic ideals brought from western minds. Now, some still do it as part of their culture, others see it aesthetically, and the rest uses it as a source of living. Either of these converges into one common point. It reflects life of an individual, family, and society as a whole.

Local Visual Artist. There are many visual artists in our localities. We can see different shops offer services like lettering, t-shirt printing, tarpaulin making, streamers, props and design making. In Pagadian city, there is a visual artist who is famous among students, teachers, establishments, tricycle drivers or even private individuals. He is Edwin Palma or also known as “Boy”. He is 50- year old. They live in Roxas, Sta. Maria District, Pagadian City. He has three children. His eldest child is one who is exposed to visual arts and following the footsteps of his father. His mother was once a beautician and he thinks it where his talents came from. None of his family is a visual artist. For him, he was not even exposed to his peers. His talent was discovered by his own father. His father always scolded him because his notebooks were filled with

drawings and letterings. Since then, Boy’s teachers and classmates are requesting his services. He was encouraged to value his skills by his teachers, friends and parents.

His Works. He started to practice his talent and skills in lettering since 1991 in J.C printing shop. After a decade he transferred to Mendoza printing shop. Until in 2014, he decided to build his own shop called B.S. Art and Design. He is versatile visual artist. His into lettering in streamers, visual aids for the teachers, vehicle plates, tricycle

For uncle “Boy”, even if it is not the highest paid profession and work of all, but it is the greatest of all. His hobby of sketching and lettering on the notebook turned him into

an artist who is not internationally acclaimed but a hero to his family. His passion is more than a source of income but it is his life.
