Introduction I was pleased to see that some of my ideas were used in the Boundary Committee’s draft proposals for the new Cheshire East wards. In my submission I proposed 82 single member wards. For a boundary strategy where one, two or three councillors represent wards I am in general agreement with the draft proposal. I do have some minor suggestions to tidy up a couple of areas.

Suggested changes to draft boundaries Macclesfield In the draft proposal Thistleton Close is included in the proposed Macclesfield Moss ward. But road access to the rest of this ward from this cul-de-sac is not possible without going through the proposed Macclesfield Central ward. I suggest including Thistleton Close and John Street (evens 36-54) in the Macclesfield Central ward. To keep the electorates of the Central and Moss wards as near to the draft proposal I suggest moving the area around Pool Street from Central to Moss. Both of these changes are indicated on the map below. The electorates of each area are approximately 90.

Wilmslow In the draft proposal 145 Manchester Road is in the proposed Wilmslow Lacey Green ward while the rest of the houses on that road are in the proposed Handforth ward. Conversely 2A Stanneylands Road is in the proposed Handforth ward while the rest of the houses on that road are in the proposed Wilmslow Lacey Green ward. I suggest that it is logical that these two house switch wards so that they are in the same ward as their neighbours on their respective roads. This is set out in the map below.

Suggestions for different ward names The vast majority of the proposed ward names seem sensible to me. The only alternative suggestions I have are: Proposed name Alternative name Reasoning Gawsworth Capesthorne This none parish specific

name might be preferable. Crewe St Barnabas Crewe North West All the other proposed

Crewe wards have compass point names. This one would logically be North West.

Nantwich North & West Nantwich Barony Weaver This proposed ward is similar to one that existed as part of the old Crewe & Nantwich Borough

Wrenbury Cholmondeley Retains the name of the current ward albeit in a smaller form.

Areas of boundary concern Though it is out of the scope for this boundary review to change parish boundaries, I think it is worth taking note of where these in some cases divide housing estates. In some cases houses themselves straddle the boundary line.

Crewe Some of the houses on Stanier Close, Stephenson Drive, Nigel Gresley Close and Sydney Road are in the Crewe Green parish and therefore the proposed Haslington ward while they would more logically belong in Crewe East. This is one area where the maps supplied by the council in stage one were unclear, as the polling district boundaries were not always nested within the ward boundaries.

Leighton Part of the “James Atkinson Way” estate falls within the Leighton parish and therefore the proposed Leighton ward. Like the Crewe example above the mapping supplied by the council did not appear to be consistent in this area. This boundary looks like it slices through a community.

Middlewich A handful of houses on the northwest outskirts of Middlewich are not only outside the parish of Middlewich but are actually in Cheshire West and Chester. They are in the Centurion Way area on Hereford Way, Galloway Close and number 11 on Chartley Grove straddles the boundary. I would have thought it would make sense to include everything within Centurion Way in the Middlewich parish and ward.

Nantwich There are several apartment buildings on Tyldesley Way in Nantwich, which are in the parish of Henhull and therefore the proposed Bunbury ward. Again it would seem logical for these abodes to be within the Nantwich parish and the Nantwich North & West ward with the rest of the street.

Sandbach Another place where a parish boundary line cuts through a housing development is Hollyfields in Wheelock Heath which is located in southern part of the Sandbach parish or the northern part of the Haslington parish.

From: mark f dawson Sent: 08 February 2010 19:40 To: Reviews@ Subject: boundary committee I would like to register our objection to warding of Adlington with Poynton West. We feel that Adlington & Prestbury are of more similar sizes & have similar problems & interests. Poynton is much larger & more like a town. We do not feel that Adlington's views would be similar to Poynton's. Mark & Maggi Dawson

Dear Sir

As a resident of Gawsworth I write to express my concern at the proposed changes aeas of this close parish by splitting the Gawsworth Borough into 2 wards. This would mean that our house which doesn’t fall within the centre of the village would become part of the Gawsworth Moss Borough Ward & as a person very much involved all aspects of village life I am unhappy at the possibility of this happening to our thriving community.I ask that the Boundary Committee let the status quo prevail

From: Lyndsay and Derek Sent: 05 February 2010 15:13 To: Reviews@ Subject: Electoral review of Cheshire East Authority I live in the Parish of Adlington and we have been represented by a Councillor who also represented Prestbury, the adjoining village. I feel that if our village is to be included with Poynton West we would lose representation as we are a small semi rural area and have very different needs from the far more urban "town" of Poynton. It would make far more sense to link us with other small rural communities such as Pott Shrigley, Middlewood and Higher Poynton, to name but a few. Lyndsay Fern

As a resident of Adlington for over 12 years I want Adlington to remain part of the Prestbury Ward and I object to the proposal to transfer it to Poynton East or West. Two of the "main considerations" - administrative convenience and equalising the number of electors per Councillor are insufficient reasons to disturb the particular community identity of Adlington and its longstanding relationship with Prestbury with which it has more in common. To whom it may concern. As residents of Adlington, (Ashtree cottage, Roundy Lane, Adlington SK10 4JZ) we would like our objections to the proposed change of boundaries to be noted, i.e. for Adlington to become warded with Poynton West rather than remain in the ward of Prestbury as at present. Kind regards Mrs Carolyn and Dr Alistair Gray

Your feedback : Please note, as a Resident of Adlington, I want Adlington to remain part of Prestbury Ward It should not be transferred to Poynton [East or West], merely for the administrative convenience of local Government or to equalise the number of electors per Councillor [two of your three " main considerations" in forming the draft proposals]. The third “main consideration", namely "community identity" seems to be completely ignored, yet it is the principal consideration that matters to the Adlington

Community. I have lived in Adlington for over 80 years and my family since the early 1900. We are appalled at the lack of reverence to the community for the sake of political ends.

From: Andy & Carole Grundy Sent: 12 February 2010 10:57 To: Reviews@ Subject: Adlington. Cheshire East Dear Sir, As a long-term resident of Adlington, I object to the proposed boundary change. I feel that this scattered rural community would be 'swallowed-up' within the much more urban Poynton area, it's identity lost. The requirements of the Adlington residents are very different from those of the residents of Poynton, whose needs may be prioritised. Adlington would continue to be better served within the Prestbury ward. Yours faithfully, C. Grundy.
