April 1, 2018

Greetings Cherry Creek FBLA Members,

Many thanks for another extraordinary year with FBLA! Our journey in the

past year has been exciting, rewarding and successful. We were able to uphold

the legacy of Cherry Creek FBLA, build upon previous victories, and continue

our quest for success. As Chapter President, I am proud of each and every one

of you for getting involved in many FBLA activities and continuing to pursue

new goals in FBLA.

Our members have maintained our close relationship with local businesses

and have recruited a total of four Professional Division members. Ten

members have completed their Business Achievement Awards and two

members have achieved various levels of Community Service Awards,

receiving national recognition.

The 2017 State Leadership Conference in Vail, Colorado was also well

attended by our chapter. Fifty-nine members qualified to compete and eight

placed in the top 5 in various events. Five members competed at the 2017

National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, California. Our chapter’s

Community Service Project placed in the top fourteen in the nation.

As always, our members are dedicated to make an impact in our community.

We ran several fundraisers to benefit the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.

Additionally, we participated in a chapter-wide community service project

serving Children’s Hospital Colorado. Our chapter also played an important

role in the Creek Day of Service, a school wide community service activity.

A new direction for a chapter-wide activity is international membership

development. Two members traveled to Hungary as FBLA ambassadors and

were instrumental in implementing a foreign FBLA chapter at Toldy Ferenc

Gymnázium, in Budapest. Cherry Creek FBLA has “adopted” this new

chapter and is mentoring the Hungarian FBLA members.

As the 2017-2018 school year comes to an end, your new team of chapter

officers will continue to work together to increase membership, plan activities

to enhance leadership development, and take our chapter to new heights.

Congratulations on a successful year! Thank you Cherry Creek FBLA for

your support!

Kind Regards,

Aditya Sinha

Our Chapter - Number of Members

Cherry Creek FBLA was founded in 1981 and since

then has touched the lives of many students. Year

after year, Cherry Creek FBLA continues to maintain

its high level of membership. With 97 members, it is

the third largest student organization on our campus.

The membership distribution per grade levels is

shown in Figure 1. Membership was on a constant

upward trend over the past five years, currently being

the highest ever. Mr. Mike Goodman served as

adviser to Cherry Creek FBLA since 2013. He has

dedicated countless hours outside of the classroom

and chapter meetings to help members meet their

goals. Our high school’s faculty and administration

recognize FBLA as being beneficial to all students in

bringing success beyond high school. After many

years, Cherry Creek FBLA continues a proud

tradition of excellence.

Our Chapter, Our School and Our Community

The Local Chapter Annual Business Report outlines the activities and accomplishments of the

Cherry Creek High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America from April 1, 2017

to April 1, 2018. This report describes how the members of our chapter strived to reach their

aspirations and prepare themselves better to become the business leaders of tomorrow.

Greenwood Village has a population of 15,500, while the Greater Denver Area is home to 2.8

million people. Built is 1955, Cherry Creek High School is the oldest and the largest of the seven

high schools in the Cherry Creek School District. Since it was built, in order to accommodate the

ever growing number of students, Cherry Creek High School has expanded to include four buildings

on 80 acres. Currently, its student body consists of nearly 4,000 students. Greenwood Village is part

of the Denver Technological Center. Due to our proximity to so many businesses, our FBLA chapter

is very fortunate to have gained the support of numerous local businesses.

Our School and Our Community

Cherry Creek High School (CCHS) is a public high

school, located in Greenwood Village, a suburb

situated southeast of the city of Denver, Colorado.

The Cherry Creek Club Fair

The Club Fair is the most important recruitment

event which takes place every year, in late

August. All the clubs from our high school are

represented, allowing students to browse and

learn more about various clubs. At this event,

besides freshmen, we also target all

underclassmen and any other interested

students. In addition to brochures, at this event,

we usually hand out coupons and small gift

cards to local restaurants to students who

actually join FBLA at that time.

Program of Work

The Program of Work is a FBLA chapter’s activity guide for the upcoming year. It

allows members to plan their work, and then work their plan. The Program of Work

is re-evaluated at the beginning of second semester and at the end of the school year.

Recruitment Activities

An organization’s most important resource is its membership. The more committed,

hardworking, and enthusiastic the members of an organization are, the more it can

accomplish. To maintain high membership and to expand, the Cherry Creek FBLA

leadership team has introduced numerous activities geared towards membership

recruitment and retention.

Future Bruin Night

Future Bruin Night is an Open House

for new families. This is a very

important recruiting event for our

chapter because it is targeting

freshmen. Since 8th grade students and

their parents attend this event, FBLA

officers have the opportunity to

introduce them to FBLA and persuade

them to join our chapter. For this

purpose, our members prepare a light-

up informational display board, which

is a great attention grabber and

attracts countless prospective students and their parents to our table. This poster board contains

general information about FBLA, pictures from recent FBLA activities, as well as testimonials

from past and present members. The FBLA officers manning the table also hand out promotional

brochures which explain the benefits of FBLA membership and encourage students to reach out to

the chapter adviser and chapter officers with questions.

The FBLA Interest Meeting

The FBLA Interest Meeting is always in early

September and is well attended. Existing members are

urged to invite a friend. Pizza and cake is served.

Prospective members were shown a recruitment power

point, which gives them a visual idea of the FBLA

experience. They are also able to learn about our

chapter’s long standing success and strong presence on

campus. At the end of the meeting we have a raffle.

Additional Recruitment Activities

In preparation to the FBLA Interest Meeting, members

design flyers which are hung all over the school and

promote the meeting. These flyers feature general

information about FBLA, but also inform that the chapter’s

Interest Meeting is a “pizza and cake” party. Promotional

pamphlets are also being distributed to all business classes.

Existing FBLA members are encouraged to engage in

Membership Madness and Membership Mania, for which

they will be recognized at a later chapter meeting.

Chapter Office Elections

In May 2017, 18 Cherry Creek FBLA members applied for officer positions and took part in an election

process. They filled out an application stating their qualifications to hold office, their goals for the

future of Cherry Creek FBLA and their ideas for improvements that could be made to our chapter.

They were also required to submit a personal statement. Then, the candidates were interviewed by the

existing officer team and the chapter adviser. Four of the candidates were chosen to serve as officers

for the 2017-2018 school year.

Chapter Committees

At Cherry Creek FBLA, members do not have to be

formally elected in a leadership position to assume a

leadership role. Anybody can volunteer to chair or co-

chair a committee and to take the lead in an activity. In

the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years, our chapter

had the following committees: Competitive Event

Committee, Community Service Committee, and

Membership Development Committee.

Student-Led Local Chapter Workshops

To improve the knowledge of the new and returning

FBLA members, the officers and members alike agreed

that it would be beneficial to have short local chapter

workshops, once a month, as part of the regular chapter

meetings. Usually, members voted on the topic, and a

student volunteered to prepare and give the presentation.

Topics covered were FBLA Chapter Events, FBLA

Introductory Events, the Business Achievement Awards, Career Development, and Go Green. Members

were also encouraged to attend the workshops and lectures offered at the District and State Leadership

Conferences.

Business Achievement Awards (BAAs) and Community Service Awards Programs (CSAs)

By participating in the various levels of the BAAs and CSAs,

students were further able to develop their knowledge of FBLA,

hone their leadership skills, their organizational abilities, and

gained valuable community service experience. Ten members

have been recognized at district, state, and national levels for

their achievements. Also, two members received the

Community Level Award and two members were recognized

for the Service Level Award.

FBLA considers leadership to be so essential that this concept is embedded in its

mission statement as well as the title of the organization. Cherry Creek FBLA

provides many opportunities for our members to assume an active role in leadership

development.

Competitive Events

Every year 100% of our chapter members participate in at least one competitive event at

Districts. Those who qualify advance to State, and a few members will compete at the National

Leadership Conference. Each member has access to study materials and guidelines for their

event. The chapter adviser is very knowledgeable about the competitive events and he and the

officers are available to provide mentorship and support to all members.

College Fairs

The Cherry Creek FBLA Officer Team is accountable for informing

members about mini-college fairs hosted at our high school and about

larger college fairs that take place in the Greater Denver Metro Area.

Students attending the National Leadership Conference also have the

opportunity to visit with admission officers from several colleges at

the college fair hosted by the National Conference.

FBLA Career Development Workshops

The topic of one of the local chapter workshop was Career Development. Members were shown

how to write cover letters, how to organize resumes, how to apply for scholarships, and how to

be successful at an interview. Members are always encouraged to attend the workshops at the

district, state, and national leadership conferences, which also cover these topics in more detail.

Local Chapter Meetings

By participating in the bi-monthly

local chapter meetings, Cherry

Creek FBLA members and officers

learn how to plan and conduct a

meeting. They have a chance to

discuss new ideas and to work

together as a team. The skills

learned from these meetings will

prove beneficial in other endeavors

and will shape the members as

future successful leaders.

Local Business Support

Cherry Creek High School has a reputation of a school with very high standards for academics,

ethics, athletics, clubs and extracurricular activities, and community involvement. Cherry Creek

FBLA also has a positive image in our community due to the maturity, dedication and hard work of

its members. Therefore, when our chapter members reached out to local businesses, they were ready

to pledge their support.

Due to their generous donations, all Cherry Creek

FBLA members who qualified to compete at the

2017 State Leadership Conference were able to

attend. Our supporters were:

GDA Real Estate

Adopt-A-Chapter Project

For our Adopt a Chapter Project, Cherry Creek FBLA has

reached out to many American Hungarian businesses and

gained the support of Benke, Inc. and Interactive Brokers,

LLC. Their generous financial contributions funded four

all-expense paid trips to the 2018 FBLA National

Leadership Conference for three Hungarian students and

their advisor from Toldy Ferenc Gymnázium in Budapest,

Hungary.

Global Outreach FBLA

The mission of Global Outreach

FBLA is to promote FBLA in foreign

countries in an effort to support the

development of entrepreneurs in

emergent nations. Cherry Creek

FBLA has partnered with Junior

Achievement Tanzania and is sending

a delegation to Dar es Salaam to lead

the Tanzanian FBLA Summer

Leadership Conference in July 2018.

Professional Division Members

In the 2017-2018 school year, Cherry Creek FBLA members recruited four Professional Division

members from the local community. These business professionals bring expertise from companies

including Denver Water and DTC Health. They provide additional guidance and support to our

chapter.

Homecoming

At Homecoming, all clubs at

Cherry Creek High School have

the opportunity to sell food to

the student body. Our FBLA

chapter sold grilled cheese

sandwiches and made $164.

Restaurant Fundraising

Every year our chapter holds fundraiser nights at one of

the local restaurants. This year, it was at The Dusty Boot

Bar and Grill. For every person who dined at the Dusty

Boot on the designated nights and brought our flyer, the restaurant donated 10% of the check to

Cherry Creek FBLA. We raised $382.

Online (Snap-Raise)

At the start of the school year, Cherry Creek FBLA planned and implemented an online fundraiser to

help pay for transportation to the District Leadership Conference and to the State Leadership

Conference. A total of $5,279 were raised.

Member Donations

In addition to the online

beginning-of-the-school-

year fundraiser, the

chapter requested and

received $500 in

donations from members.

FBLA Membership Mania Award and FBLA Membership Madness Award are given to those members

who recruit five and ten new members, respectively. This way, our membership increased by 30% from

the previous school year to this school year.

Business Achievement Awards (BAAs)

The BAAs are a self-passed leadership program, in which FBLA members work to achieve four levels

within the program. Ten members completed and received recognition for their commitment to FBLA:

Abhinav Kakumanu, Ian Parish, Nagarjuna Gowda, Jaylene Sperry, Mariam Gopalani, Edwin Bodoni,

Nicole Hankovszky, Brezhane Walker, Evelyn Bodoni, Emmett Miller.

Community Service Award (CSAs)

This year, two members are working to complete the three different levels of the CSAs.

Adopt-A-Chapter Project

Cherry Creek FBLA partnered with Toldy Ferenc Gymnázium in Budapest, Hungary, and “adopted”

this new foreign FBLA chapter as a “sister” chapter. Two members from Cherry Creek HS traveled to

Hungary and led the Hungarian FBLA Winter Leadership Conference, which marked the establishment

of this new chapter. Since then, under the mentorship of Cherry Creek FBLA, the Hungarian FBLA

members held their first local competition and qualified thirteen students to attend the 2018 FBLA

National Leadership Conference.

FBLA-PBL Week - Adviser Appreciation Week (February 8 - 13)

February 8, 2018 was the day of our 2018 District Leadership
