Welcome to Lucy Moses School, New York’s largest community arts school!

We’ve been giving thousands of adults and children of all ages and skill

levels the opportunity to make music, theater and dance a part of their

lives for more than 50 years. Whether you’re exploring a new interest or

returning to a lifelong passion, you’ll find classes and private lessons to fit

your schedule and level of experience. Our faculty members are caring

teachers who are devoted to sharing their love of music and the performing

arts with each of their students.

Lucy Moses School specializes in making the arts fun and accessible for

both serious students and casual learners with a range of courses, classes

and opportunities encouraging all ages and abilities to participate. Our

teachers are available when you are: Class schedules are flexible enough

to fit into your busy schedule, and our instructors can even come to your

home for private lessons. Students enjoy regular opportunities to perform

and hear fellow students in a variety of settings.

PriVate LeSSonSPrivate lessons are the best way to develop your music skills, whether you are a beginning, intermediate or advanced student. Studying one-on-one provides you with the individual attention of a master teacher who is supportive and motivating. Placement occurs in consultation with the adult Division Manager, who will select the teacher best suited for your level, interests, goals and schedule. Private lessons are also excellent preparation for playing with others in a chamber music setting. Performance opportunities are provided through studio recitals as well as public concerts in ann goodman Recital Hall.

THe FIDDLe gROOVe: MaRK O’CONNOR VIOLIN MeTHODThe Mark O’Connor violin method includes musical literature that represents all of the americas (Mexico, Canada and every region of the United States) and a multitude of musical styles, including classical, folk, Latin, rock and ragtime. This class will cover the fiddle tunes in the first volume of method book beginning with “Boil ‘em Cabbage Down.” You will discuss the historical background of each song and learn beginning improvisational skills that coincide with each tune. Prerequisite: competency in at least the first half of Suzuki book one or equivalent

JaZZ PIaNO WORKSHOPFor pianists with basic knowledge of scales and harmony, this course offers an opportunity to gain the skills needed for a variety of professional musical settings. elements covered include chording appropriate to diverse styles, such as bop, swing, Latin and modern jazz, as well techniques for developing new voicings, articulating the melody and improvising. You will have the opportunity to improve both as accompanists and soloists while comparing ideas with other students. Its three core subjects include: eurhythmics, the study of rhythm; Solfège, ear training and musical literacy; and Improvisation, spontaneous musical expression at the piano. These courses are offered in Beginning, Intermediate and advanced levels. Lucy Moses School’s Birnbaum Music Library includes a large collection of Dalcroze materials.

TeaCHeR TRaININgDalcroze certification is available at the Certificate and License levels. The Dalcroze Certificate confers authority to teach children according to the Dalcroze approach. The Dalcroze License confers authority to teach adults and to give Dalcroze workshops.

16 17daLcroZeThe Dalcroze School at Lucy Moses School offers a unique and comprehensive musical training. Its three core subjects include: eurhythmics, the study of rhythm; Solfège, ear training and musical literacy; and Improvisation, spontaneous musical expression at the piano. These courses are offered in Beginning, Intermediate and advanced levels. Lucy Moses School’s Birnbaum Music Library includes a large collection of Dalcroze materials.

TeaCHeR TRaININgDalcroze certification is available at the Certificate and License levels. The Dalcroze Certificate confers authority to teach children according to the Dalcroze approach. The Dalcroze License confers authority to teach adults and to give Dalcroze workshops.

PeRSONaL/PROFeSSIONaLDeVeLOPMeNTYou do not need to work toward certification to enroll in Dalcroze classes.
