Expanding Knowledge in Early Childhood Development

We are a Childcare Center for ages 6

weeks to 6 years. We are a teaching

based center and offer pre-school

curriculum concept that starts as early as

our Infant class.

Our curriculum provides an introduction to

basic learning skills, fine arts and physical

education through developmentally appro-

priate experiences.Language Arts focus on phonics and letter

recognition as well as vocabulary and verbal

skills.

The children learn mathematics by the

recognition of numbers and their concrete

value versus mere counting. Working with

colors, textures, shapes and sizing activities

develops visual discrimination.

Fine Arts encourage their creative skills

through various art mediums, music, litera-

ture, movement and play.

Physical education such as dance, sports,balancing, and outside activities on our

enclosed playground supports gross motor

development.

Fine motor skills are developed in their

hands through various activities such as

bead stringing, pegboards, sewing, puzzles,

and nuts and bolts.

Our staff is degreed in Early Childhood

Education and CPR and First Aid certified.

They are loving, caring, talented and nurtur-

ing individuals who are concerned with

each childs social, emotional, physical andintellectual development. Each one contin-

ues to expand their knowledge by attending

workshops and other forms of continuing

education programs focused on the ever

changing needs of families and Early Child-

hood Development.

During our summer month we offer field

trips and fun activities that continue to

promote learning while giving the children a

break from a traditional learning setting.

At Tallgrass, students decide for themselves how to spend their days. Our

philosophy, which includes democratic governance and age mixing (5-19),

is supported by research and built on trust, freedom, and responsibility.

We use a student-centered, organic approach to learning. On a typical

day, students might be engaged in sewing, learning Japanese, reading,

roller skating, going for walks, cooking, or just hanging out together. In a

setting in which students are free to make their own choices, they become
