Greetings to you all after such a long break from publishing our letter. As you can observe there has been big changes made to the letter, and we hope that you will enjoy our production even more as a result. What has occurred since our last communication away back in May? Heaps!! For one thing we have (enjoyed??) our warmest winter ever. This has just come across the radio as this section of the letter is being written. Other matters have not been not easy to deal with. Donna has been putting up with a lot of pain due to damage done to her right knee. Although currently using pain killers and physiotherapy, it looks like the next visit to the specialist will invite keyhole surgery to effect a permanent answer. Both of us had to endure an examination from our landlord about our present tenancy, which at the time of this writing is still ongoing. If we have to move along, you can be sure we will be making tracks out of Auckland, in part because the rents here are so high. The move over to Windows 8 on our computer has brought beneficial changes, including our upgrading to Office 365 which has meant we are now using the very latest software for our business. However we did not enjoy having to endure a crash shortly after installing the new operating system, and we lost some information as well as a lot of time correcting matters. This interfered with our getting back in touch with you until now, however we hope you are pleased with what you now see. Kind regards Gordonna

However some enjoy life more
than others, primarily due to
applying the 4 cornerstones of
daily living. Much of our
lifestyle is controlled by factors
that we can influence, however
it can be upset by poor
decisions which sometimes can
have long term consequences.

Of course Mark Twain
would not agree with the
above sentiment. He
expressed it by publicising
the saying in "Chapters
from My Autobiography",
published in the North
American Review in 1906.
"Figures often beguile me,"
he wrote, "particularly when
I have the arranging of them
myself; in which case the
remark attributed to Disraeli
would often apply with
justice and force: 'There are
three kinds of lies: lies,
damned lies, and statistics.'"
Be that as it may, there is
one set of statistics that
cannot be easily altered or
manipulated - and that is in
connection with our
lifespan. In New Zealand
at present the lives of men
and women differ by a
mere 4 years when it comes
to living out their lives.
According to the 2010
report written by The
Ministry of Social
Development, men live
78.4 years compared to the
slightly longer 82.4 for
women. So what can be
considered the best way
that can lead to our living a
longer and more successful
life? For as just noted it is
extremely difficult to defeat
statistics, so some may
adopt the philosophy of “let
it be - let it be” or as the
song puts it “Que sera,
sera.” However is that not
already putting into our
minds that basically we are
doomed to live our lives as
set out by the statistical
average of the country we
live in? It is a well known
fact that if something is
said long and hard enough
it can come to be believed
in as a fact. For many years
people used to say “the
Yellow race will rule the
world” and this
understanding was offered
that the Asians - particularly
China will achieve that in
our lifetime. And there is no

type is volatile oil
components - includes
myristicin, limonene,
eugenol and alpha
thujene. The second type
is flavonoids—including
apiin, apigenin, crisoeriol
and luteolin. In the course of animal researches,
volatile oils have been
proven to impede
development of tumours,
specifically in the lung
area. Myristicin was also
proven to trigger an
enzyme that eventually
assists the body from being damaged. The
volatile oils are able to be
described as “chemo
protective food” which
serve as neutralisers for
certain types of carcino-
genic substances.
Luteolin, one of the flavonoids has been
proven to function as an
antioxidant, and helps in
preventing cell damage.
Parsley extracts were
utilised in animal research
and were proven to help
in improving the blood’s
antioxidant function. Dr
Gunatillake reports that
beside these nutrients the
other components are
able to assist in
preventing illness, particularly vitamin C and
helps maintain the body’s
immune system. Parsley
may also facilitate good
appetite, improve the
digestive process and
urine production, diminish
spasms and increase
menstrual flow. (Written by Sandeep Godiyal and
modified by G.B.)
8 common diseases
linked to vitamin D
deficiency.
1)Asthma. Especially in
children, vitamin D has
been shown to help
reduce the severity and
prevalence of asthma symptoms, and may help
quell the inflammation
responsible for restricting
airways.
2)Hypertension. A study
recently published in the
Journal of Investigative
Medicine found that
patients fared better
when their vitamin levels were boosted.
3)Inflammatory Bowel
Disease. Studies
conducted in Europe,
India & USA have
identified a link between
low levels of vitamin D
and higher rates of
Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and other
forms of IBS.
4) Influenza. Flu rates are
highest when wintertime
produces low levels of
ultraviolet B rays.
5) Type II Diabetes.
Research published in the journal AIDS has found
that maintaining high
vitamin D levels helps
reduce the risk of
developing this disease.

attitude and determination on
our part, we can come to
outlive many of our
associates and friends.
What is called for to
achieve the long life &
better health that is
spoken of?
Basically it can be summed
up in one word : SEEDS.
In our conducting of
business, many a discussion
has been held on health
issues, some of these
involving serious difficulties
accompanied with poor
possibilities. From this it can
be clearly deduced that most
observe some of the outlined
acronym behaviours, but few
can honestly say they practise
all of them and even fewer
have done so for a consistent
period of time. A lot of
citizens of our country have
come to rely upon the heavily
subsidised public health
system for maintenance of
their health. For some it is an
economic necessity, for
others however it is due to an
acceptance that this is the
best way to go. ( this attitude
is changing — particularly
with the education and
possibilities produced by the
doubt China is a force to be
reckoned with, but there is
considerable debate by many
world watchers as to whether
this is possible in today’s
complex world. Most
authoritative observers have
now concluded that the
modern world of today is so
interconnected that it is no
longer believable that one
race will rule over the 7
billion plus inhabitants of our
globe. So was that saying a
myth? Decide for yourself -
We have introduced this line
of reasoning for the purpose
of demonstrating this: Just
because the majority believe
something does not
necessarily make it true — or
factual. And although
statistics about our health and
possible lifespan are correct
to within a small percentage
of error, with the right
Internet) The public health
system relies primarily on
drug therapy to cope with the
ever increasing numbers
seeking answers to their
health problems. Although
some drugs have originally
been traced back to a natural
source, in today’s world they
have been mass produced by
pharmaceutical companies
bent on making a profit. And
the latest scam involves
many of these companies
being brought to heel and
prosecuted in the law courts
over lies and fraud about the
effectiveness of their
products. Frequently
members of the public have
discovered to their horror that
damage has been done to an
overloaded body full of
poison, and unable to do
much about that unhappy
state of affairs.
Disease prevention
& other health
benefits of parsley.
Dr Harold Gunatillake, an
affiliate of the Fellowship
of the Royal College of
Surgeons, asserts that
the herb, parsley has
more to offer than being
a mere colourful trimming
on the delectable dishes most often served in
restaurants. There are 3
types of parsley, with two
well known, namely curly
parsley & Italian flat leaf.
The latter kind possesses
a more aromatic scent &
less pungent flavour compared to the curly
type. A typical serving of
parsley contains vitamins
A, C, & K along with
folate, iron and
comprising zero calories.
A small stem of this
humble herb has two uncommon elements that
provide exceptional
health benefits. The first
S = Sleep Restfully
E = Exercise Daily
E = Eat Discreetly
D = Drink water plentifully
S = Supplement Religiously

This letter you are reading is
an indication though that
things are different with you.
We are delighted to have
assisted with your healthcare,
and truthfully it is the many
encouraging experiences that
keep our enthusiasm up for
the work that we do. And
despite the fact you are
channelling some of your
heard earned cash into the
products that we offer, it is
an investment in your future
health. And we have now
arrived at an important aspect
about life that we sometimes
fail to realise.
How long do we live
for in a disabled state
before we pass away?
This is a possibility many of
us fail to see coming, and
that is understandable for
having an ability to foresee
the future accurately is well
nigh impossible. Consider
this fact: “For every death
in our country, 17 people will
become disabled to the point
where they can't
work.” [BERL Disablement
Research, National Health
Statistics Centre] And in
many cases this means that
can involve a considerable
time frame, sometimes even
decades.
Percentage of people with
disability, 1996, 2001 and
2006.
Age groups
Now when we drill down
further into these statistics
they reveal an interesting
makeup that relates to our
article. Of those aged 15
onwards in the year 2006,
only 28.59% were caused by
accident/injury or were
present at birth. Compare this
however to the whopping
46.46% caused by disease/
illness or natural aging. And
of those unfortunate to be
involved in such a statistic
40% had a single disability
leaving an amazing 60% with
multiple disabilities. So in
attempting to find the answer
as to how long people live in
a disabled state, we ran into
the Ministry of Social
Development’s website. It
states that in the year 2011 of
the 252,085 New Zealander’s
receiving some form of
benefit (including those
getting a pension) 86,475
were getting a sickness/
invalids benefit and all were
under age 65. That means
34.3% of those getting
assistance from the
Government were sick! If we
take the average age of those
passing away in N.Z
mentioned at the beginning
of this article at 78 - 82 years,
it would appear that some are
in a disabled state from
sickness for about 20 years or
so! Therefore it is with some
justification that we urge all
of our readers to take special
note of this series of
statistics, and become aware
of the need to take definite
action so as not to be part of
these disturbing trends in our
society.
When did this all begin
for those poor
individuals mentioned
in the statistics?
From our observation of
people living in New
Zealand, it would be
reasonable to suggest it did
not start a few years before
they became disabled. It
takes a long time before our
body is unable to cope with
abuse or poor lifestyle habits,
and in a recent announcement
made about a famous New
Zealand entertainer who is
shortly to undergo the
penalty of our unyielding
enemy, brought back to our
mind a health seminar in
which he appeared and spoke
of his past habits. From an
early age (preteen) he began
smoking and eventually
became a chain smoker of
about 40+ per day. As he said
“I was never seen without a
fag in my mouth.” At the age
of 28 he stopped smoking
altogether and remained so
for over 40 years. However
when he suffered dreadfully
from having heart attacks and
strokes he asked his doctor
what was the cause of his
problems. “Your smoking”
came the swift reply. “But
Doc, I’ve been off that for
over 40 years!” the sick
entertainer responded. The
doctor spoke the truth to him
directly when he said
“nevertheless that is the
cause of your current
problems.”
What does Active
Health Services
recommend for it’s
readers?
In a nutshell: Begin today to
practise the acronym of
SEEDS. Use a reasonable
percentage of your in hand
dollars after paying for the
roof over your head, on
improving or maintaining
your wellbeing. Can you go
to 25% of that in looking
after your health? Of course
some of that will be soaked
up by engaging in sport or
exercise, but it would be a
useful exercise to analyse
how much is currently going
where and how often. Some
people have been amazed
that they should invest that
much of their hard earned
funds in healthcare, and
further to that ask the
question “ how long does this
have to go on?” To that we
offer the response that it’s a
free world and anyone can do
what they wish. However
from a business dedicated to
improving the community's
health comes the clear
directive: Health is more
important than wealth. To
this we can add the wise
words of that famous
American Dennis Waitley
“Health is the one thing you
can’t buy back once you’ve
lost it.” Which reminds us of
the Life Insurance principle -
that people who cannot
obtain life cover due to poor
health, always regret not
getting that sufficient cover
in place when it was possible
to do so due to their enjoying
better health.
The best way to
achieve or maintain
optimal health lies in
our own hands.
One of the easiest ways in
which that can be
accomplished lies in picking
up the phone and ordering
high quality supplements
from a reliable and upright
supplier. As to which ones do
the job best - there is a
plethora of products available
- far too many for anyone to
try each one to discover if
they can change their health
for the better. For instance
with our 4 suppliers that we
deal with we have a range of
about 4,000 available. (no,
we’ve not counted them all -
it’s an estimation) Sometimes
it’s a real struggle to
determine which is the best
choice for the person to
consume. But the point that
we wish to make is this: the
requirement for sustaining
good health comes primarily
from having a healthy diet,
and consists of food giving
the body the needed nutrients
it demands to achieve that
result. Supplementary to that
is the compelling argument
made, that despite our best
efforts it can’t be done by
food alone. That is because
of the steady deterioration of
the foods now available,
which frequently come from
soil which is exhausted due
to overuse, or foodstuffs
picked before they are ripe.
So the last point of that
acronym remains true for us all
and supports the concept
presented in the main heading of
this article. We encourage all to
continue doing this.

6) Dental cavities. It has
been suspected since at
least the mid 1800s that
a lack of natural sunlight exposure is a major cause
of poor health. But,
recently scientists have
pinned specific conditions,
including poor dental
health, to a lack of
vitamin D. Lack of this
important nutrient can
lead to higher rates of dental cavities.
7) Rheumatoid Arthritis. A recent study out of
Canada found a
“considerable strong association” between
vitamin D deficiency and
RA. In fact, those with
the lowest blood plasma
levels of 25 (OH) D were
found to be up to 5 times
more susceptible to RA
related diseases than
others. 8) Cancer. Cancers of all
types have been shown to

inadequate levels of

those with the highest
levels of this nutrient tends to be the least
prone to developing
