Part of the six volume set that introduces young children to the lives of the great friends of God. These illustrated books tell the stories of saints and blesseds from different times and places. Each story is connected to a child’s everyday experience by an invitation to imitate a virtue of the saint. Stories contain dates of birth and death, biographical information, and feast days. These saint stories will inspire young readers ages 5–7. Volume 1 includes the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Joan of Arc, St. Bernadette Soubirous, St. Paul, St. Nicholas, St. Bakhita, St. Faustina Kowalska, and St. Juan Diego. Blessed Mother, MaryWhen Mary was a teenager, an

angel brought her a message from God.God wanted her to be the mother of hisson, Jesus. God had picked Mary from

all the women on earth!Mary was probably scared.But she trusted God. Shetold the angel “yes.”

After Jesus was born,Mary and her husband,Joseph, raised him. Marywas with Jesus when hedied on the cross. Now sheis in heaven. She is ourBlessed Mother. She lovesus and prays for us.

Mary always said “yes” to God. She willhelp us to obey.

Mary lived during thefirst century A.D.

She was born inPalestine.

We celebrate herbirthday onSeptember 8.

We celebrate herfeast day as theMother of God onJanuary 1.

Saint JosephGod chose Joseph to be Jesus’

father on earth. The Bible tells us thatJoseph was an honest man. He was agood husband and father. He found a

safe place for Jesus to beborn.

Joseph worked veryhard to take care of Jesusand Mary. He was acarpenter. He did not havepowerful tools like theones we have today. Heused simple tools. He builtdifferent things like chairsand tables.

From heaven, Saint Joseph watches overall fathers. We can ask him to keep usclose to Jesus and Mary. We can ask himto help us with our work.

Saint Joseph livedduring the firstcentury A.D.

He was born inPalestine.

We celebrate hisfeast day as thehusband of Mary onMarch 19.

Saint Joan of ArcSaint Joan never learned to read or

write. But she knew how to pray! WhenJoan was thirteen, she heard an angel’svoice. “You will help France win the

war against England,” theangel said. I can’t do that!Joan thought. But whenshe was sixteen, Joan didlead the French army intobattle. And they won! Thenthe English leadersarrested her. They put herin jail. They said she was a

witch. When Joan said she was onlyobeying God, she was put to death.

Saint Joan will help us to be brave andstrong and always tell the truth.

Saint Joan of Arclived from1412–1431.

She was born inFrance.

We celebrate herfeast day on May 30.
