Who: suggested for students who can read independently, without frustrationat a second-grade level or above. Minimum of four students, please.

When: Tuesdays, 10:3012:00. 4-week course: Feb 18, 25, March 4, 11Where: Kelly Martins in-home classroom, Hampton Ridge SubdivisionCost: $50 per child ($12.50/90-minute class)Why: Its critical for young readers and writers to learn how to readlike awriter, and write like a reader. Children learn what good readers and writers

dobest when immersed in authentic, rich literature, and are given

opportunities to respond through writing and dialogue with the teacher and

other peers. Literature circles present so many rich learning experiences,

effectively addressing appropriate objectives, including: interpreting

characters point-of-view, using reading strategies that strengthen

comprehension, identifying literature structure, making personal connections,

analyzing authors purpose and writing craft.

Teacher: Kelly Martin, skilled elementary teacher and experienced privatetutor. Masters in Reading Literacy, (Thesis: The Writing Workshop in the

Elementary Classroom) with experience in the Atlanta school system, and

locally at Randolph School, and Blossomwood Elementary.
