Literacy in Reception becoming a writer and reader. It’s not all about Phonics!

To become a reader and writer there are many components that come before phonics.

Language and communicationIn Reception we not only focus on literacy (reading

and writing) we focus on the key areas of communication and language.

Speaking and listening are vital skills children need to develop in order to live successful lives in society.

Listening, understanding and speakingThey are key skills for children developing their

ability to read and write.

spelt incorrectly eg. torl werk cabij (phonics screening test – year 1)
