Math3041: Literature search project Due: 4pm Friday 27 March. Submit report to Moodle PART A Some of the most famous modelling equations of all time are; the Navier-Stokes equations, the Black-Scholes equation, the Schr¨ odinger equation, and the Hodgkin-Huxley equations. Use the UNSW library resources and the WWW to prepare a very brief literature review of these equations. Your review should provide the following for each of the above equations: Write down the full reference for the first research journal publication(s) in which the equations(s) appeared. Write down the number of citations to this paper as listed in the Web of Science (provide the date at which this count was made). If the original cannot be found then provide a highly cited review article of the equation. A very brief description of the original modelling application that the equations were introduced for. This description should provide the role of each of the variables appearing in each equation. (Part A is worth 40% of the project mark) PART B Particulate matter such as sand exhibit both liquid and solid properties. Find at least 2 review or journal articles that describes the state of the art mathematical modeling and/or simulation of sand pile dynamics. Write a review of no more than 3 pages. Describe the approaches, applications, current limitations and future perspectives. Understanding complex cognitive processes is important to research such as Alzheimer’s disease. Find at least 2 review or journal articles of the state of the art mathematical modeling and/or simulation of hallucinations. Write a review of no more than 3 pages. (Part B is worth 60% of the project mark) All your descriptions should be written using language suitable for a newspaper article for the general public. Your project could be in Word or LaTeX and a clear reference style. 1

    PART A

Some of the most famous modelling equations of all time are; the Navier-Stokes equations, the Black-Scholes equation, the Schrodinger equation, and the Hodgkin-Huxley equations.Use the UNSW library resources and the WWW to prepare a very brief literature review ofthese equations. Your review should provide the following for each of the above equations:

Write down the full reference for the first research journal publication(s) in which theequations(s) appeared. Write down the number of citations to this paper as listed inthe Web of Science (provide the date at which this count was made). If the originalcannot be found then provide a highly cited review article of the equation.

A very brief description of the original modelling application that the equations wereintroduced for. This description should provide the role of each of the variablesappearing in each equation.

    PART B

Particulate matter such as sand exhibit both liquid and solid properties. Find at least2 review or journal articles that describes the state of the art mathematical modelingand/or simulation of sand pile dynamics. Write a review of no more than 3 pages.Describe the approaches, applications, current limitations and future perspectives.

Understanding complex cognitive processes is important to research such as Alzheimersdisease. Find at least 2 review or journal articles of the state of the art mathematicalmodeling and/or simulation of hallucinations. Write a review of no more than 3 pages.
