SAVE THE DATE!! Jonathan Haidt is a moral psychologist who studies our intuitive moral foundations and how they both unite and divide us. He is currently touring in support of his new book, The Righteous Mind: Why Good People are Divided by Politics and Religion, and will be speaking at Florida State on September 11th.

Haidt has been a featured speaker at the TED conference in 2008 and 2012. He has been interviewed by Bill Moyers and has been a featured guest on the Colbert Report. He is an engaging, humorous speaker with an extraordinarily important and timely message. Booklist called Haidt, “a much-needed

voice of moral sanity.” Haidt’s visit is sponsored, in part, by SGA’s Golden Tribe Lecture Series, and his talk will be from 8:00 – 9:30 in the Student Life Cinema on Tuesday, September 11th. Immediately afterwards, FSU’s Spiritual Life Project will be hosting an activity designed to exercise our righteous minds. You won’t want to miss this intriguing event. FSU UNITED WAY GIVE AWAY FSU Student United Way has $13,787.99 to give to FSU RSO’s. What's the catch? They want to see you being productive! They

want to see positive, sustainable changes in Tallahassee. Enough people have the vision, but not enough have the resources. Here's one opportunity to receive the resources necessary to help your RSO's vision get off the ground. USB DONATION DRIVE The HOPE Community Center, a Big Bend Homeless Coalition program that provides those who are experiencing homelessness temporary housing and a transition into stable living, has a large need for USB drives. To help this program, Circle K International is hosting a USB donation drive. Both new and used USB drives can be donated. ENGLISH FOR SPEAKERS OF OTHER LANGUAGES (ESOL) Tutor Training Workshop. If you would like to help newcomers develop their English skills, become a member of a great organization, meet people from around the world, and learn new skills from an accredited nonprofit educational organization, then this is the workshop for you. You do not need to know any other language other than English to be a tutor. Part I: Tuesday, September 4th 6:00 –8:00 p.m. Part II: Tuesday, September 11th 6:00 –8:00 p.m.

Volunteers read to a child one hour per week for 25

weeks, choose the school they volunteer at and the day they volunteer, and the weekly curriculum is already developed and tailored to children’s reading needs. It’s About…

CAMP BOGGY CREEK FALL FAMILY WEEKEND Camp Boggy Creek’s Fall Family Weekend season is right around the corner. They will have eight disease-specific family retreat weekends scheduled beginning in September and running through December. These weekend events allow campers, siblings, parents and other family members to have a fun

weekend getaway, along with other families who are dealing with a chronic or life-threatening illness. They are currently signing up volunteers for one or more weekends this fall! Volunteering at Camp Boggy Creek offers groups the opportunity to team build together and give back to their community. Individual students also find this to be a way to give back, enhance their resume or possibly receive school credit. They need 65 to 70 energetic volunteers each weekend to help give families a great time! Volunteers (both male and female, ages 19 and older) act as a Family Pal, Activity Pal, Certified Lifeguard, Psych-Social Facilitator or Dining Hall assistant during each three day event. TAKE YOUR SERVICE TO THE NEXT LEVEL: LEAD OTHERS IN SERVICE! The Center for Leadership and Civic Education is seeking goal-oriented, service-minded students to facilitate service projects for the Community Outreach Program for the fall semester. Strong facilitators are critical to the success and growth of the Program. The Community Outreach Program aims to offer at least one service project every day of the week, at different times of day, that address a wide range of community issue areas, in order to appeal to as many students as possible. Being a facilitator requires a minimum semester-long commitment. Responsibilities include transporting FSU students in Center

vans, so having a valid driver license, current auto insurance, and a good driving history are all needed. Other responsibilities include recruiting, informing, educating, supervising and encouraging the students on the project, helping them learn more about the needs of the community, discover what they are passionate about, and inspire them to continue volunteering. OPS POSITION AVAILABLE AT TALLAHASSEE COMMUNITY

COLLEGE Tallahassee Community College’s Adult and Community Education Department is currently looking for a qualified part-time instructor for our Fall 2012 Adult Education program in Gadsden County. Their instructors are professionals who have experience teaching secondary and/or adult students. They seek individuals who have practical work experience and backgrounds to help facilitate a rich learning environment for diverse urban ESOL populations. General responsibilities include maintaining class rosters, recruiting and retaining students, facilitate lecture, group work, and individual teaching environments, testing and data submission. The successful applicant will be responsible for

earning literacy completion points for ESOL students who have not completed high school or adults who want to improve their English skills (i.e. language acquisition, vocabulary improvement, conversational English, and fluency). ESOL learners range in age and functioning skills. Class sizes range from 10-35 students. The class is located in Gadsden County and is scheduled from 6-9pm. Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree, in a related field, from an accredited institution.
