This exciting event will inform minority, first generation, and underrepresented students in the national fellowship application process and is a great opportunity for rising college sophomores, juniors, and seniors. BIG BROTHER, BIG SISTER, BIG BASH Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Big Bend’s BIG Alliance is putting on a night of the Roaring Twenties filled with food, dancing, free-flowing bubbly, prize giveaways and more. Come dressed in twenties fashion on Friday, August 26 from 8pm – 12am to Hotel Duval with over 300 other community- minded guests from throughout Tallahassee and the Big Bend area. FSU HANDS OF HOPE’S FIRST GENERAL BODY MEETING FSU Hands of Hope is a newly recognized Registered Student Organization that works to organize consistent volunteering projects aimed to provide assistance to people with disabilities. They are officially affiliated with the College of Medicine at The Florida State University and Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and have a variety of volunteering opportunities open within these and many other institutions that further reinforce our mission to integrate students with and without disabilities. Regular volunteering events include monthly Bulid-A-Ramps, nursing home visits, vocational workshops to serve teens and adults with developmental disabilities and more. If you are interested, their first summer General Body Meeting with be Wednesday July 6 th at 6pm. The location is not yet confirmed but will be announced through email once it is. COMMUNITY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM The FSU Community Ambassador Program selects students to serve as liaisons between community partner agencies and FSU. Students who are community ambassadors will receive leadership training and documentable experience, a deeper understanding of non-profit work and important social issues, and a greater understanding of University resources. Each Community Ambassador will gain valuable and meaningful professional and personal experience. They will also receive an AmeriCorps Education Only Award and students who have been awarded Federal Work Study can receive up to $9/hour working as an Ambassador. HABITAT YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE Habitat for Humanity’s 2011 Youth Leadership Conference will be held Nov. 4-6 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The conference theme for this year is “Local Action Global Impact” and seeks to help individuals understand questions like “How can your knowledge and contacts be put to work in your local communities?” and “Can you see the impact of your local work as part of the global picture?” For questions about the conference you can check out their website or email them at [email protected].

SERVICE LEADERSHIP SEMINAR – APPS DUE JULY 8 The Service Leadership Seminar (SLS) is a four and a half day seminar that provides incoming freshmen with the opportunity to explore leadership and community engagement in their new collegiate atmosphere. The Social Change Model of Leadership is introduced and provides the foundation for the seminar and allows students to learn about leadership in the contexts of individuals, groups, and communities. Through participation in community service projects, workshops, speakers, a challenge course, as well as interaction with campus leaders, SLS participants begin discovering their own path for creating positive sustainable change while at Florida State and beyond. MIXER AND MULTICULTRUAL SHOWCASE The 2011 Meet and Greet Mixer and Multicultural Showcase will take place on August 25th and 26th in the Center for Global and Multicultural Engagement. If you or your organization is interested in tabling at the Meet and Greet or performing in the Multicultural Showcase, you can submit a form online at http://cma.fsu.edu/mixershowcaseform.html. Forms must be submitted by August 5th, 2011 at 5pm either through the online form or a paper copy turned into the front desk at the Center for Multicultural Affairs (3rd Floor of Center for Global Engagement). SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES HELP OUT IN APALACHICOLA NAT’L FOREST Silver Lake Recreation area gatehouse needs an attendant on the weekends from 8am to 8pm until Labor Day, September 5. ELDER DAY STAY NEEDS YOUR HELP WORKING OUT The clients at Elder Day Stay participate three afternoons per week in seated exercises and they are looking for student volunteers to lead seated exercise sessions. SEACREST WOLF PRESERVE NEEDS YOUR HELP Seacrest Wolf Preserve is a nonprofit organization providing a safe, humane habitat for displaced captive wolves and wolf/dogs. BE A COMMUNITY OUTREACH FACILITATOR The Community Outreach Program is seeking civic-minded, committed students who want to take their service experience to another level, to serve as Outreach Facilitators for the upcoming fall semester. Facilitators lead small groups of students to and from weekly service projects, helping their peers find meaning in their service experience through pre-service preparation and post-service reflection. Facilitators are needed for various issue areas, including environment/community gardens, animal services, hunger/homelessness, mental health, senior services, youth mentoring, and more. Facilitators drive University vans to transport the group to and from the campus to the agency, therefore facilitators need to have a valid driver license, current automobile insurance and a good driving record. If you are interested in this leadership opportunity, please complete the application (available online or in our office) and submit it to Heather Stitely at [email protected] or you can drop it off in person at The Center. SCHOLARSHIPS, GRANTS & AWARDS THE KENNETH E. CLARK STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD The International Leadership Association (ILA) and the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) are pleased to partner to sponsor the annual Kenneth E. Clark Student Research Award to recognize outstanding unpublished papers by undergraduate and graduate students. The winner of this year’s award will receive: a $1,000 cash prize; travel, lodging (up to two nights) and complimentary registration to ILA’s conference in London, UK on October 26-29, 2011; complimentary 1-year membership in the ILA; and, recognition at the ILA conference and in various multimedia ILA publications. Submissions will be judged by: the degree to which the paper addresses issues and trends that are significant to the study of leadership; the extent to which the paper shows consideration of the relevant theoretical and empirical literature; the extent to which the paper makes a conceptual or empirical contribution; and, the implications of the research for application to leadership identification and development. All authors must currently be students or must have graduated within 1-year prior to the submission deadline of June 15, 2011. Entrants must provide a letter on

organizational letterhead from one faculty member certifying that a student wrote the paper. Electronic submissions are preferred. The name of the author(s) should appear only on the title page of the paper. The title page should also show the authors' affiliations, email and mailing addresses, and telephone numbers. Papers are limited to 30 double-spaced pages, excluding title page, abstract, figures, tables, and references. Entries (accompanied by faculty letters) must be received by June 15, 2011. The winning paper will be announced at the 2011 ILA Conference. Entries should be emailed to [email protected].

This position directs NYLC voice and branding, and executes strategies to accomplish department goals and deliverables. The Director also leads or supervises the development of communications across all departments and manages media relations and publications sales and is a member of the Leadership Team. The other position that NYLC is looking to fill is for a Development Associate who will be responsible for working with the development team to execute the fundraising and development plan.
