VISIT TALLAHASSEE MUSEUM WITH COMMUNITY OUTREACH The Tallahassee Museum hosts a variety of exhibits to promote knowledge and understanding of the region’s cultural history and natural environment. While touring the 52-acre facility, visitors can see many examples of the indigenous wildlife of this area, in the Wildlife Florida exhibit, and the animals that would have been on a typical farm in the 1880s in the Big Bend Farm area. The Outreach Program has just added the Tallahassee Museum to its list of service projects for students. On this project, volunteers have an opportunity to make enrichment items for the animals in these exhibits, as well as the animals used for kids’ programs. The items made will then be introduced into the animals’ habitats to help stimulate their natural, instinctive behaviors like digging, sniffing and scratching. This keeps the animals happy and healthy. If you enjoy being outdoors and would like to help keep the Museum’s animals content, you can sign up for Tuesday afternoons in the Center for Leadership and Civic Education. WE HAVE AN APP FOR THAT! HAND IN HAND ACROSS TIME AT FLORIDA STATE On April 19, Florida State University is kicking off their 50 Years of Integration celebration at the Integration Statues with a record breaking 1500-person human chain! This chain will be divided into three branches, each representing the legacy of those pioneering individuals who paved the way for rich culture, diversity and opportunity on our campus. The three branches will represent: Maxwell Courtney (first African American graduate of FSU), Fred Flowers (first African American to wear an athletic uniform at FSU), and Doby Flowers (first African American homecoming princess); with the east spanning to Westcott, the south spanning to Woodward Ave/Jefferson St., and the west spanning to the medical school. Once in place, individuals will pass three commemorative stones from the integration statue towards the three ends of campus to signify the importance of passing along the values of diversity and unity. This activity will be concluded with a reception and several student performances.

Unity and diversity is throughout the campus and flows through the campus. To join in the celebration of the past, present and future of Integration at Florida State University, register here.
