1 List of Pre-approved courses for the use of Professional Development (PD) Grant The ECDA Training Award provides awardees with funding for Professional Development of up to $1,000 per annum for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)- related courses conducted locally and supported by ECDA. List of Pre-approved courses for the use of Professional Development (PD) Grant

The ECDA Training Award provides awardees with funding for Professional Development of up to $1,000 per annum for Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE)-

related courses conducted locally and supported by ECDA.

You may wish to consider the courses provided within this list for the use of the PD grant. You may contact the Training Agencies or Conference Organizers directly

to register for the programmes. Please note that this is not an exhaustive list. If you wish to attend courses that are not within this list, you may submit an

application to us for our approval. Please use the PD Grant application form attached in Annex 1 and e-mail to ECDA ([email protected] ) for approval to

use your PD Grant.

As this funding is on a reimbursement basis, awardees are required to submit a claim upon completion of the course. ECDA will reimburse you through your

Awareness

Phonological awareness training is the explicit development of

children’s sensitivity to the sound structure of words. Through

phonological awareness training, children become more

conscious that words can be made up of syllables (parts), rhymes

and individual sounds (phonemes). Research studies have shown

that explicit phonological awareness training speeds up reading

acquisition.

The workshop is carried out in 2 sessions: Theory and Practice.

The first session (Theory: Morning Session) is to explore a general

survey of present contemporary numberism artist who creates

Music Toolbox Level 5yr old (Music Factory's Music Prg)

(elements of music) in young children in a sequential manner, using the MTB (Music Toolbox©) guided teacher’s manual, which includes a year’s lesson plans, audio CD and teaching aides. MTB© is built using three strands to progressively develop strong auditory skills, understanding of music elements and creativity. This interactive training includes hands-on experience in Creative Movements in response to music, percussion play and improvisation, interactive singing, and musical play using song-stories. Participants will learn how to elicit children’s response to music and to lead children to meaningful music making. MTB© is available separately for the 4, 5 and 6 years old, as music elements and knowledge are linearly built over the three programs. Q1 : I am interested in registering for a course/programme in the pre-approved list. What do I do? You will need to contact the training provider/organizer to register. As the PD grant is on a

Q3: I am interested in registering for a course/programme which is conducted overseas. Am I eligible for the PD grant?

No. The early childhood related course/programmes have to be conducted locally. Overseas study trips

or programmes conducted overseas are not eligible for this grant.

Q4: I am also receiving course fee subsidies, from WDA. How will ECDA reimburse me? ECDA will only reimburse the balance, if any, after whatever subsidies received.

For example : Course fee :$1000 WDA funding (90%) :$900 Net amount charged :$100 Amount to reimburse from PD Grant: $100 (Subject to a cap of $1,000 per AY)

Q5: Can I claim transportation costs incurred due to travelling to and from the course? No, transportation costs are not covered. The items covered under the PD grant would be registration fees, course fees and material costs as billed by the Training Agency/Organizer.

Q6: I have some PD grant from last academic year that I did not utilize. Will this be rolled over to the next year? Or can I encash the unutilized portion? The PD Grant of $1,000 is provided per academic year. Any amount not utilized within the academic year, will lapse and will not be rolled over to the next year. As this is provided only on a reimbursement basis, any amount not utilized cannot be encashed. Q7: Can ECDA pay the fees directly to the Training Agencies instead of me paying the fees first?

No. As this fund is provided on a reimbursement basis, ECDA will only disburse the grant amount after completion of the course. Awardees will be reimbursed at the end of every semester through their Polytechnics.

Q8: How many courses can I attend in a year? Awardees can attend as many courses per year, but the PD grant only covers course fees up to $1,000.

Any amount above this will have to be borne by the Awardee.

Q9: I have made payment for the course/conference/workshop online. Can the original receipt be in the form of e-mail confirmation? Yes. Please print a copy of the e-mail receipt and submit together with your reimbursement form.

Q10: I have attended a conference and they did not provide me with a certificate of

attendance/completion. What should I do in order to seek reimbursement for the conference fee?

For conference or seminars, please submit proof of having attended the conference/seminar, such a

copy of the name tag, if possible.

Q11: I paid and attended a course before the end of academic year 2013 but submitted the

reimbursement form in academic year (AY)2014. Which AY’s PD Grant will the reimbursement be

tapped on?

The AY which the PD Grant will be tapped is based on the date when ECDA receive the reimbursement

form. For example, if ECDA receives your reimbursement form , together will the receipt and

certificate of attendance etc, in the AY2014 for course attended in AY2013, the amount reimbursed

will be made out from your academic year 2014 PD Grant.
