List of New IIMs, IITs, NITs, IIITs and AIIMS

List of New IITs: There are total six new IITs that already started functioning from 2009,

while two (MP, HP) would start from 2010-11 academic year.

List of New IIMs

A total of 7 new IIMs are being set-up in India.

A_Practical_Guide_to_the_CAT

First Phase (functional from 2010-11 session): IIM Tiruchirappalli, IIM Ranchi, IIM

Raipur, IIM Rohtak.

Second Phase (functional from 2011-12): J&KK, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan (the locations

are yet to be decided).

India already has seven functional IIMs in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow,

Indore, Kozhikode and Shillong.

List of New NITs

Ten new NITs (National Institutes of Technology) are being set-up per following

NIT- Delhi, NIT- Dehradun (Uttarakhand), NIT- Goa, NIT- Pudducherry, NIT- Manipur,

NIT- Meghalaya, NIT-Mizoram, NIT- Nagaland, NIT-Arunachal Pradesh and NIT-

Sikkim.

The admissions to these new NITs will be made from the academic session 2010-11

List of New AIIMS Hospital and Research Institute

A total of six new AIIMS hospital and research institutes would be set-up on the lines of All

India

Institute of Medical Sciences-New Delhi per following: AIIMS- Bihar(Patna), AIIMS-

Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), AIIMS- Orissa (Bhubaneshwar), AIIMS -Rajasthan (Jodhpur),

AIIMS- Chhattisgarh (Raipur) and AIIMS -Uttaranchal (Rishikesh).

Each institute will intake 100 UG students. Once opened, this will significantly increase the

intake of students from existing 50 seats (total-including all quota) in AIIMS.

AIIMS- Academic Programmes, Eligibility and Exam Schedule

New Central Universities (14) and Word Class Universities (16)

A total of 16 Central universities and a new category of 14 world class universities shall

come up in state capitals and major cities. .

The 16 Central universities would be set up in Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh,

Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir,

Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa.

State-wise list of cities identified for locating 14 world class universities during the 11thPlan:

1 Maharashtra Pune, 2 West Bengal Kolkata, 3 Tamil Nadu Coimbatore, 4

Karnataka Mysore,5 Andhra Pradesh Vishakapatanam, 6 Gujarat Gandhinagar 7

Rajasthan Jaipur,8 Bihar Patn, 9 Madhya Pradesh Bhopal, 10 Kerala Kochi, 11

Punjab Amritsar, 12 Orissa Bhubaneshwar, 13 Uttar Padesh Greater Noida, 14 North

Eastern Region Guwahati

New IIITS

The Planning Commission has accorded in principle approval to establish 20 new Indian

Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) under the 11th Five Year Plan across various

locations in India.The plan is, however, still awaiting the green signal from the finance

committee of the Union government and the central cabinet.

Four centrally-funded IIITs already exist: IIIT- Allahabad, IIIT- Gwalior, IIIT- Jabalpur

and IIIT- Kanchipuram. There are two other IIITs that have come up under PPP model:

IIIT-Hyderabad & IIIT- Bangalore. It is worthwhile to note here that IIIT-Hyderabad has

emerged as a unique brand similar to IITs.
