Advanced Diploma in Facility and Property Management (Part-time)設施及物業管理高等文憑 (兼讀制)

Alex Kwan is the first batch of graduate of the Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing programme (ADVN). Recalling the time when he attended interview, he was very nervous, enthusiastic, with a bit of doubt. After 2 years of study, he is confident to say that he has made a right decision.

Alex was so excited when he stepped into the classroom on the first day of school. He said, “Everything are just brand new to me!” Undoubtedly, it would be much easier to study veterinary nursing if you have studied biology or chemistry in secondary school. Alex did take both subjects in secondary school, however, the medium of instruction was in Chinese and therefore he put in enormous effort and time to overcome the difficulties in studying the subject matters in English. It’s with much effort through the very packed learning schedules “making good friends” with medical terminologies, day after day Alex started to memorize words naturally such as hypertension, hypothermia, anemia and so on. Alex shared with us that the more you read and the harder you study, veterinary nursing is not such a difficult subject as you may have imagined.

Work placement is a core module of the course and it consists of animal welfare and clinical skills. The course provided students with lots of opportunities to practice veterinary nursing skills. Through work placement students would have chances to come into contact with different animal species. Some classmates were sent to the Hong Kong Ocean Park. All these are precious and unforgettable experiences to enrich learning.

To those who wants to take this course, Alex suggested that you have to possess a great passion to animals. It is more than having an interest to work with animals. As a vet nurse, communication skills are very important either. You will need to deal with different peoples including the vet surgeons, other nurses, and your clients who are master of their animals. If you really love animals and want to be a professional veterinary nurse, come and join us. Hope to meet you in the future.

彭雯燕(Mandy)是商業管理高等文憑課程畢業生。預科畢業後她雖然順利找到工作，但每

次都因為學歷不夠而錯失晉升機會。無論經驗如何豐富，學歷始終是前途的關鍵，於是

她鼓起勇氣與另外兩位同事在2016年一起報讀SCOPE的ADMS課程。她形容三人同時被

錄取的一刻，真的有點像做夢一樣！畢竟已放下書包十多年，真的要重投校園又是另一

番感覺。

Mandy表示剛開始上課時真的感到很吃力，除了同時兼顧事業和家庭外，還要堅持放工

後趕回學校上課，與同學合作Project和Presentation，還要應付各科考試，背後需要很強

的推動力和很完整的時間管理計劃。幸運地，SCOPE的老師們非常有耐性，遇到任何疑

問，也可通過課堂或電郵查問。而修讀ADMS同學大多成熟認真，每次跟組員合作都能

互相體諒，各取所長。另外，由於課程內容真正切合工作需要，故同學們上課時均十分

投入。Mandy從事院校文職工作，平日需要處理大量的學生查詢，這課程內的不少科目

均能提升她在工作方面的知識和應用技巧。尤其是人力資源管理(HRM)專修，內容豐富

充實，令她在管理員工下屬方面獲益不少。

完成ADMS課程後，Mandy一鼓作氣繼續修讀SCOPE與英國De Montfort University合辦的

BA(Hons) Business Administration and Management課程。Mandy期望可以順利在兩年內取

得學士學位，令個人和事業均可更上一層樓。

在某個低密度獨立屋屋苑工作的張威廉(William)，已從事物業管理工作約八年，是應屆

設施及物業管理高等文憑課程的畢業生。張同學在入行前並無修讀物業管理相關課程，

他於兩年前選擇修讀香港城市大學專業進修學院的物業管理專業文憑，隨後再繼續修讀

本課程，是希望透過學習更多行業內的相關知識和汲取講師及其他同學的寶貴經驗，從

而加深對多層式大廈屋苑管理以及整個行業的認知，令自己對行業的運作有更深入和全

面的了解，為事業進一步建立穩固的基礎。

他表示由於課程涵蓋多個不同範疇，部分更是以往在工作上鮮有涉獵，例如不同的

法例、大廈科技及能源系統、品質管理系統等，因此學習時具有一定的挑戰性。然而，

經過各講師的悉心教導和鼓勵後，再加上得到一批熱心的同學幫助，各種難題最終都能

一一迎刃而解。此外，透過多次與同學合作完成功課，並在講師和同學面前作口頭匯報

的經驗，他發現自己在溝通技巧、組織能力、創意和自信心等各方面均有着全面的提

升，這對日後在職場上以至繼續進修均帶來莫大幫助。在修畢此課程後，張同學認為現

時在處理日常工作時比以往更得心應手，並期望在這良好的基礎下，有助他日後投身到

多層式大廈工作以及在學業上繼續深造。

隨着近年行業發展日趨專業化，從業員亦須具備各類不同知識和技巧。在此，他祝願所

有應屆畢業生及正在修讀此課程的同學，繼續在事業及學業上取得突破，為自己和行業

未來的發展揭開精彩的新一頁。

Emma Hon is an animal lover. With a bachelor’s degree in Economics, she found herself not suitable serving in the business environment. To live a life that’s more meaningful, satisfying and worthy, she joined the Advanced Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (ADVN) course in 2016.

“The two years of study is tough yet very challenging”, said Emma. The clinical practical lessons are the most useful classes for her to learn about hands-on nursing care skills and to taste the real work environment. It is also through work placement that experiences can be built up to tackle the many unexpected incidents that you can never learn from books or in class. Emma shared with us that she has once faced a horrible situation when a dog had his neutering incision site broken and keep bleeding. By staying calm, Emma applied the skills learnt and successfully helped the dog to stop bleeding.

With a shortage of well-trained veterinary nurses in Hong Kong, Emma only spent a week to get a full-time job after finished study of the course. She is now a veterinary assistant at SPCA and she loves her career. To those who love animals and wish to step into the career of veterinary nurse, Emma suggested that you should possess a great passion and be prepared to do a lot of hard work. Studying the ADVN is not easy but she loves it, it is definitely the most rewarding and challenging course.

Emma would like to take this opportunity to thank the VN teachers especially Queeny, Eva, Jackie, Susanna, Jane, Nathalie and Sophie for their effort and support. “I’m grateful to have these awesome teachers who always share the wisdom to learn and keep pushing students to try our best”, Emma expressed.
