Washington, D.C. Revised January 1968
PREFACE
This list includes associations of fishermen and vessel owners (which are not cooperatives), together with wholesale and retail dealers, processors, and distributors. The list was originally compiled in July 1947, and the latest revision was made in January 1968. The current list, in most instances, includes the name of an official of each organization who may be contacted; however, it may not be complete because there is a constant change in associations as new ones are formed and old ones become dormant or dissolved. Accordingly, the Fish and Wildlife Service assumes no responsibility in supplying the list to inquirers.
In addition to this list of associations, the Service has two other lists, one for cooperatives and another for unions. The List of Fishery Cooperatives in the United States has only organizations of fishermen currently recognized by the Department of the Interior as cooperatives under the provisions of the Fishery Marketing Act of 1934. Some activities of certain fishermen's unions are considered to be in the nature of cooperative marketing and have been considered as such by the Federal courts (34 F Supp. 970, 974; 315 U.S. 143 ) ; however, all unions are listed in the List of Fishermen's and Fish Shore Workers' Unions in the -- --- ----United States.
All three lists are revised periodically ar.,i may be obtained fre e from the Branch of Foreign Trade and Economic Services, Bureau of Commercial Fisheries, 1815 N. Fort ~Ayer Drive, Arlington, Virgiilia 22209.
