WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION? Liposuction, also known as lipoplasty
("fat modeling"), liposculpture suction lipectomy ("suction-assisted fat removal") or simply lipo is a cosmetic surgery operation that removes fat from many different sites of the human body.
Each area of the body is treated apart.
TYPES OF LIPOSUCTION Tumescent liposuction
A saline solution, with mild painkiller
and epinephrine, a drug that contracts your blood vessels is injected into your fatty areas before the fat is removed.
The solution not only helps the surgeon removed the fat more easily but it helps reduce blood loss and provides pain relief during and after surgery.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction
During ultrasound-assisted liposuction, ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy the fat, after which it is removed from the body.
THE AREAS OF THE BODY WHERE LIPOSUCTION IS PERFORMED… Abdomen Breasts Hips Flanks Back Inner thighs Inner knees Upper arms Submental (chin),(gullet) Gynecomastia (male breast tissue)
AM I A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR LIPOSUCTION?
There are some conditions that could indicate that liposuction is right for you:
You have areas of fat deposits that are out of proportion with the rest of your body.
Your skin elasticity is good – there is not a lot of excess skin and the area is firm (liposuction removes fat, not skin).
You wish there was more definition in certain areas of your body or a sleeker contour.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING LIPOSUCTION SURGERY? Step 1:Anesthesia Medications are administered for your
comfort during the surgical procedures. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia.
Step 2: The incision Liposuction is performed through small
incisions. First, sterile liquid solution is infused to reduce
bleeding and trauma. Then a thin hollow tube, or cannula, is inserted
through these incisions to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion.
The remove fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum or syringe attached to the cannula.
Step 3: See the results Your improved body contour will be
apparent when the swelling and fluid retention came after surgery will disappear.
With continued practices of healthy diet and fitness, the loss of excess fatty tissue should be permanently maintained
WHICH ARE THE RISCKS OF LIPOSUCTION? Uneven contours Skin or nerve damage Irregular pigmentation Infection Fat clots Blood clots Excessive fluid loss or fluid accumulation Unfavorable scarring Anesthesia risks Bleeding (hematoma) Change in skin sensation Skin discoloration or swelling Asymmetry Pain, which may persist Possibility of revisional surgery
CONCLUSION
Liposuction surgery usually improves contours. Since the healing process is gradual, you should expect to wait at least several months to get an accurate picture of the results of your surgery.
The small incisions used for access of will fade over a number of months usually becoming barely visible.
