Dear Parents and Carers,

We believe our school is a very special place to work and learn, a real community school where everyone is equally valued and enabled to succeed. It has an individual identity that combines traditional values with a modern and vibrant vision.

We are proud of our successful school, where children achieve good results, develop into responsible citizens, have fun and enjoy coming to school. We have a great team of committed and enthusiastic adults who work hard to ensure that every child develops lifetime skills for learning and aspires to success.

safeguarding chiLdrenAt Links the health and safety of all children is of paramount importance. Parents send their children to school each day with the expectation that school provides a secure environment in which their children can flourish. At Links we have a wide range of measures in place to ensure that all children feel safe, secure and able to learn.

BuLLying We are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all of our pupils so that they can learn in a relaxed and secure atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our school. If bullying does occur, all pupils should be able to tell an adult and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively.

BehaViourAt Links Primary School we believe that good behaviour is essential for effective learning and a happy environment. We expect our children to be kind and polite to fellow pupils, staff and visitors and to be true ambassadors for our school at all times.

We expect all children to wear the correct school uniform, have all the equipment necessary for lessons and to complete homework on time and to the best of their ability.

attendanceWe expect all our pupils to attend regularly and to be on time for school. Attendance levels are closely monitored and are addressed when necessary. Children are rewarded for excellent attendance and punctuality and there is a special prize for the winning class.

home / schooL PartnershiPsChildren make the most of their school experience when there is good communication and a strong partnership between home and school. School staff are always on hand to deal with queries or concerns and there are regular opportunities for parents to discuss their child’s progress. We also have a Home School Officer who is available to offer guidance or support if necessary.

incLusionLinks Primary School is an inclusive school and we welcome every pupil whatever their background or special need. We are committed to equal opportunities for all and have high standards of respect and achievement for all members of the school community. We provide a multicultural environment and the staff at the school are mindful of this when planning the curriculum and work hard to remove barriers that discriminate against people. We believe that every child matters in our school and try to ensure that no child is ever overlooked.

We aim to meet the needs of all our children, including those with Special Educational Needs, those with English as an additional language and those identified as Gifted and Talented. We try to ensure that every child fulfils their potential and makes good progress both academically and socially.

curricuLum Our broad and balanced curriculum will stimulate your child to acquire knowledge and develop individual skills. Our teachers strive to make learning exciting and fun, providing lessons, which inspire, challenge and motivate children. We enrich our curriculum through school trips, visitors to the school and whole school themed days or weeks, which are an essential part of our teaching and learning. Pupil progress is tracked and assessed termly.

schooL triPs and residentiaL actiVitiesMany exciting and educational day trips are planned for each year group, enhancing the children’s learning. During their time at Links, pupils are offered three different residential school journeys – Sayers Croft in Year 3, PGL Osmington Bay in Year 5 and Normandy in France in Year 6. All these trips include activities to broaden children’s understanding of the world in which they live, encourage confidence and independence and create a greater self esteem.

extra curricuLar oPPortunitiesLinks Primary School is committed to the holistic development of each child and in order to develop well-balanced individuals, we believe it is important that children have the opportunity to participate in a variety of extra curricular clubs. The children can enjoy activities from dance, drama and football to computing, chess and French. These clubs are very popular and often change throughout the year. Music and sports are also promoted and children have the chance to sing in our school choir, learn a musical instrument and participate in a variety of sports events.

extended serVicesLinks Primary School provides excellent childcare facilities for pupils who attend the school from Reception to Year 6, offering parents an opportunity to leave their children at school in a safe environment outside the normal school hours. Breakfast club runs from 7.30am each day and After School club runs until 6.00pm. Light meals are provided at both sessions. We also offer a Holiday Playscheme during all school holidays and training days, except at Christmas. Places should be booked and paid for in advance. We accept a wide range of childcare vouchers offered by various employers.

goVernorsThe Governing Body take a keen interest in everything that concerns the school and the children. Governors are drawn from a variety of backgrounds and bring their expertise and a different perspective. They meet regularly and are committed to ensuring that the school builds on its successes and offers all our pupils an excellent education.

heaLthy eating and LunchtimeWe are a ‘Good Healthy School’ so we encourage healthy lifestyles and healthy eating. Good food is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle so younger children are offered a piece of fruit mid morning and pupils are encouraged to drink water throughout the day.

We prefer our pupils to eat school meals and we work with the catering company to ensure that school meals are appealing to the children and nutritious. Meat, fish and vegetarian alternatives are always available alongside a salad selection, fresh fruit and bread. If children choose to bring a packed lunch we expect parents to provide a balanced and healthy meal. We do not allow fizzy drinks, sweets or crisps in packed lunches.
