Lines are the fundamental single entity on a drawing.

Lines are used to illustrate and describe the shape of the object.

Lines must be clearly visible and stand out in sharp contrast to one another

To ensure visibility, guidelines must be followed.

Line width:Thick - .030 to .038 inch wide

Thin - .015 to .022 inch wide

Object (Visible) Line: Represents all visible edges on the object.

Drawn wide and dark

Makes is more visible, hence the name.

Object Line

Draw a square that is 3 inches tall and 3 inches long.

Hidden Lines:Used to show surfaces, edges of an object that are hidden from plain view.

Drawn dark, but narrow with dashes.

Now, draw a vertical hidden line 2 inches from the left side.

Center Line:Used to show or locate the centers of circles or symmetry of an object.

Represents paths of motions

Lines are dark and narrow, that start and end with dashes.

Now, draw two center lines on both sides, one inch from the side and one inch from the bottom. The hole is 3/4 inch wide.

Section Line:Surface that comes in contact with the cutting plane.

Lines are narrow, but dark.

Extension, Dimension, and Leader Lines:Lines are narrow, but dark.

Dimension Lines:Contain the dimension value.

Terminal ends of the lines contain and arrowhead tip

Extension Lines:Define the limit of the dimension

Leader Lines:Line that radiates from a note or dimension figure

Leader Line

Now, leader lines indicating at the 4 inch hidden line, the metal will be bent at a 90 degree angle. Also, indicate with a leader line, the size of hole the circles will need to be drilled.
