SEI-ASCE Technical Council on
Life-Cycle Performance, Safety,
Reliability and Risk of
Structural Systems
Those interested in joining the Technical Council should visit the SEI-ASCE website and fill out the on-line application form at:
Please indicate which Task Group you would like to join. Membership carries with it an obligation to participate actively in the work of the committee through contribution of technical information, prompt reply to requests for comments on draft committee reports, attendance at committee meetings, and review of papers submitted for publication in journals.
Completed applications are sent to the Chair of the Task Group identified on the application for review. The Chair of the Task Group will inform the applicant whether the applicant is approved to join the Task Group. Members are chosen as individuals, not as representatives of industries or groups. The most important criteria are scientific achievements and professional experience.

The SEI-ASCE Technical Activit ies Divis ion
advances the structural engineering profession
with the dedicated work of its about 70 Technical
Committees and one Technical Council, which
produce technical papers and publications,
organize the annual Structures Congress, and
produce the Journal of Structural Engineering, the
Journal of Bridge Engineering, and the Practice
Periodical on Structural Design and Construction.

Formation of the Technical Council
The Technical Council on Life-Cycle Performance,
Safety, Reliability and Risk of Structural Systems was
created on October 1st, 2008, replacing the former
Technical Administrative Committee on Structural
Safety and Reliability and its associated Technical
Committees (Buildings, Bridges, Offshore Structures,
Fatigue and Fracture) with a new Council with
revised and updated objectives and scope.
The Technical Council is part of the SEI-ASCE
Technical Activities Division.

Indicators
Risk Assessment of Structural Infrastructure
Facilities and Risk-Based Decision Making
The purpose of Task Group 1 is to promote the study,
research, and application of scientific principles of
safety and reliability in the assessment, prediction,
and optimal management of life-cycle performance
of structural systems under uncertainty.
The purpose of Task Group 2 is to promote the study,
research, and application of reliability-based system
performance indicators including structural system
reliability, robustness, and redundancy.
The purpose of Task Group 3 is to promote the study,
research and application of scientific principles of
risk assessment and risk-based decision making in
structural engineering.
