The SEI-ASCE Technical Activit ies Divis ion

advances the structural engineering profession

with the dedicated work of its about 70 Technical

Committees and one Technical Council, which

produce technical papers and publications,

organize the annual Structures Congress, and

produce the Journal of Structural Engineering, the

Journal of Bridge Engineering, and the Practice

Periodical on Structural Design and Construction.

The Technical Council provides a forum for

reviewing, developing, and promoting the

maintenance, operation, monitoring, repair,

rehabilitation, and optimal management of civil

infrastructure systems under uncertainty. To

achieve these objectives, three Task Groups have

been formed within the Technical Council.

Purpose and Objectives

Formation of the Technical Council

The Technical Council on Life-Cycle Performance,

Safety, Reliability and Risk of Structural Systems was

created on October 1st, 2008, replacing the former

Technical Administrative Committee on Structural

Safety and Reliability and its associated Technical

Committees (Buildings, Bridges, Offshore Structures,

Fatigue and Fracture) with a new Council with

revised and updated objectives and scope.

The Technical Council is part of the SEI-ASCE

Technical Activities Division.

Task Group 3

Life-Cycle Performance of Structural Systems

under Uncertainty

Reliability-Based Structural System Performance

Indicators

Risk Assessment of Structural Infrastructure

Facilities and Risk-Based Decision Making

The purpose of Task Group 1 is to promote the study,

research, and application of scientific principles of

safety and reliability in the assessment, prediction,

and optimal management of life-cycle performance

of structural systems under uncertainty.

The purpose of Task Group 2 is to promote the study,

research, and application of reliability-based system

performance indicators including structural system

reliability, robustness, and redundancy.

The purpose of Task Group 3 is to promote the study,

research and application of scientific principles of

risk assessment and risk-based decision making in

structural engineering.
