WHAT IS THE AIR FORCE AID SOCIETY (AFAS)?

• Official charity of the United States Air Force

• Support AF mission by taking care of Airmen Worldwide emergency assistance to Airmen & eligible

family members Sponsoring educational assistance programs Offering base community enhancement programs

Last year, over 40,000* people were helped with nearly $18M

*Does not include 42,000 phone card recipients

• Active duty Air Force members & their dependent family members (includes wounded warriors)

• Retired AF members (including TDRL)

• Surviving widow(ers) and dependents of deceased retirees

• ANG or AFR personnel on extended active duty over 15 days under Title 10 USC

EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE $9 Million

• 17,792 assists last year• $667K grants• $8.4M interest-free loans• Most help goes to junior enlisted• Falcon Loans (Streamlined

Process) Available since March 2008

(counter to predatory pay day lenders) 6,109 Falcon loans made in

2011 totaling $2.83M

• 3,000 General Hap Arnold Education Grants at $2,000 each for dependent sons, daughters, and stateside spouses

• 10 merit-based scholarships to Arnold Grant applicants -- $50K

• Spouse Tuition Assistance Program (STAP) for spouses overseas -- $273K

• Supplemental Education Loans to 214 families
