Club Happenings Last Month
August 20 Meeting Still no physical meetings, but we held a virtual meeting on Zoom with 19 members attending from Lincoln, Omaha, Grand Island, Bennett, Henderson (Nevada), and Venice (Florida) and a visitor from Seattle who is visiting family in Beatrice. We talked about the successful sales of donated items and ideas for future sales of donated material to club members. Our Seattle visitor raised a question about a cover postmarked at 11:59 on 12/31/1999 and again at 00:01 on 1/1/2000. No one could explain the cover, but it lead to interesting discussion. We decided that our October Stamp Day would not be held this year. Included on the next page is the individual collecting interests of some of our members. We like to share these so that you know what others are looking for, and perhaps, could guide them to a special item. If you would like to be included on this list, please email Dale or any other officer and we will update this list with your interests. Dale Niebuhr read a touching letter from a nephew about his aunt’s vast collec-tion and donation to the club. Brad Shay showed a cover with a cachet of Dr. Ben Carson and an 9/14/29 FDC for the Fallen Timbers stamp that honored Anthony Wayne. Brad told how many towns and counties have been named in Wayne’s honor. Ken Nickerson showed a 1956 football program for Rutgers vs. Princeton with Sc. 1083 Nassau Hall on the cover and a picture inside of him at age 12 buying the first Nassau Hall stamp. Dave Hamilton showed a portion of his collections of fancy cancels and precancels. David Arunski showed an 1838 stampless cover postmarked in Hartford, CT. and sent to what appears to be Wethersfield, ?? and marked for 6c postage. LaVonne Uffelman showed an assembled 3-D T-Rex puzzle from the USPS. Mark Sellhorn showed a 1944 censored FDC from Zanzibar to Kenya commemorating the 200th anniversary of the Al-Buss’id dynasty.
No meeting September 3. We will meet on Zoom September 17. We are hoping to resume meeting again in person in October. If so, the first meeting will again be business and the results of the scavenger hunt.
