Maintenance Tip The proper use and care of stoves, ovens and microwaves will not only save utilities and repairs, it will give better results in cooking and baking and may prevent serious injury or fire. Routine cleaning will also make preparing for the final inspection much easier. Here are a few pointers that may help: Wash drip pans frequently and wipe spilled

food from the burners as soon as they have cooled.

Clean under the stovetop frequently. Spilled grease and food contribute to fires.

Microwaves– read the appliance manual. DO NOT put metal objects in microwave. Supervise at all times.

Living Green: Going Green with Spring Cleaning

With the long winter fully behind us, it’s time to embrace the season of rejuvenation by reducing clutter and attacking grime. Here are some tips for giving your home a fresh start with green spring cleaning. Clean naturally. Why clean with harsh chemicals that reduce indoor air quality

and harm the environment when common household items can get the job done? Non-toxic scrubs can be made out of baking soda, lemon, vinegar, salt, liquid soap and hot water.

Clean with reusable wipes and scrubbers. Try to use reusable scrub brushes, homemade cloth cleaning rags or natural sponges made of wood-pulp cellulose. Synthetic sponges are often petroleum-derived and contain triclosan.

Use natural air fresheners. Try opening a window to really freshen up a room. Place plants including the peace lily, spider plant, golden pothos, bamboo palm, ficus, pot mum and gerbera daisy around the house to reduce the pollution in the air.

Make a green window wash. To clean windows, fill a spray bottle with a vinegar and water mixture to make a DIY wash. Scrub with newspapers to avoid streaking.

Let it hang out. Now with warmer weather, hang your damp clothes outside instead of tossing into the dryer. If weather isn’t cooperative, invest in an inexpensive drying rack that you can set up inside.

Recycle old clothing. Spring cleaning is about freeing yourself from all of your unused goods and getting a fresh start. Challenge yourself to give away one item of clothing for each new one you buy.

Recycle your papers. Every spring clean results in a lot of paper-based waste to dispose of. Makes sure to dispose of this in an eco-friendly way.

Revamp your green routine. After you’ve purged your closets (donating and recycling everything, of course) and dusted off your shelves, set the stage for a cleaner, greener year.
