Ocean Education Initiative

Over the past decade, regional and national awareness has been growing about the importance of the ocean as the one defining feature of our planet, and its impact on human lives, no matter where one lives in the world.

Beginning in 2008, Lincoln County School District recognized this important emerging trend. In partnership with the local science community, the school district embraced the goal of developing the “most ocean literate students in the country.” To meet this goal, Lincoln County teachers are given professional development opportunities to increase their knowledge, hands-on skills, and motivation to incorporate the ocean across all subject matters and all grade levels that tie into state standards.
