The imperative=commands

Notes:*The imperative is formed using only three different verb forms:Vous: Do your homework! Faites vos devoirs! To a group of students!

Nous: Let’s eat! Mangeons! Use the nous form when you want to say « Let’s… »

Tu: *When making a command to just one person/the tu form, there is an exception:

Finish your vegetables! Finis tes legumes! IR verbs are regularReturn the book! Rends le livre! RE verbs are regular

Give 5 dollars! Donne 5 dollars! ER verbs-drop the s in the tu form when making a command

Tranduisez les phrases suivantes!

2. Speak French! –to a group

3. Listen to the instructions. -to your friend

4. Be careful. -to one child

5. Leave at 7p.m.- to your friends

6. Stop!-to your friends

*What do you do if you have pronoms compléments with a command???

They will follow the command verb:

Prêtez-nous 10 Euros, s’il vous plait. Lend us 10 Euros, please.

Apportez-nous une pizza! Bring us a pizza.

Invite-moi au concert! Invite me to the concert.

Donne-moi ton adresse! Give me your address.

*Notice that in command form, me changes to moi-the stress pronoun!
