Boogie Woogie Time at MyettsThis Week’s Feature Story
“The Piano Man” as he is known, will take the
stage solo at Myetts, but don’t be concerned. Mitch
Woods is a one-man-band and consummate per-
former. His New Orleans style vintage rock n’ roll is
a show in itself. Woods will be giving six performanc-
es over this week and next beginning with Sunday
night the 17th at 7pm. Make sure to get there early
enough for a seat- but with this rockin’ boogie-woo-
gie sound, you won’t be sitting long anyway. Call
Myett’s for the full schedule of performances at 495-
9649 or check their ad on page 6.
If you haven’t been exposed to the hand clap-
pin’, foot stompin’, fingers flying up and down the
piano keyboard sounds of “Boogie-Woogie” – you
are in for a treat. In the continuation of the Red
Stripe True Blue Music Series, Myett’s is hosting
pianist Mitch Woods and his rollicking brand of
music dubbed “rock-a-boogie.” Mitch Woods brings
to his performance the authentic sound of blues
inspired rock n’ roll, resurrecting the sounds of the
iconic greats in this genre, including Professor
Longhair and Fats Domino.
Woods started out in his home state of New York
as a student of jazz and classical music. A move to
San Francisco in the 70s changed all that with the
exposure to “jump” and rhythm and blues. By the
mid 80s, after a time as solo performer in area clubs,
Mitch formed his Rocket 88s band and began to
play in larger blues-oriented music festivals. Now
two decades later Woods and his band put a fresh
spin on the music of the 30s and 40s that gave birth
to rock n’ roll.
more than is asked or expect-ed of you so that if there is aconfrontation with this co-worker or if she reports you,you have evidence in yourwork to show that you are notunder-performing or goofing-off on the job.
Enlist her support. Ask her what you can do toimprove the working relationship. You could saysomething like, “Since I am new in this department, isthere anything that I can do differently to help thingsbe a little smoother” or “I am noticing some tensionhere; did I do something that offended you”? If shechooses not to respond, then feel satisfied that youtried.
Be nice to everyone you meet. You have no ideawhat your co-worker is going through. Maybe her badattitude has nothing at all to do with you, but you arejust sensitive and taking it personally. Being nice toeveryone you meet could mean just giving them asmile and you would be amazed at the reaction thatwill bring out in someone.
Everyone that we meet will not like us; we howev-er have a duty to do the best we can in spite of the cir-cumstances that we face, knowing that from chal-lenges, we can learn invaluable lessons about humannature and we can become stronger from overcoming.

My co-worker is a witch
Send your questions confidentially [email protected] or via twitter at @korennorton
Dear Koren,I just got transferred to a different department
where I work and the lady who I have to work closelywith seems to dislike me. She is very unpleasant whenI ask a question and if a customer is waiting, she tellsme instead of attending to the person. She complainsabout everything I do and I am this close to telling heroff. How should I handle this witch? –Frustrated
Dear Frustrated,When we feel unfairly provoked, it is natural to
want to lash out at the provoker; however, two wrongsrarely make a right and in your anger, you might saysomething that you will regret after. Therefore, it isbest to be as rational as possible about the situation.
It is difficult to know what is causing her attitude. It could be a personality problem, jealousy, or maybeyou did something inadvertently to give her a nega-tive opinion of you. Even not knowing the reasons forher behavior, you still have to cope with it for five daysa week, eight hours a day. Here are some sugges-tions:
Inspire and motivate yourself before you get towork. Make sure you leave your home with a positiveattitude. That will help you to face whatever she oranyone else throws at you without succumbing to the“tit for tat” mentality. You know who you are and youwon’t let anyone else’s negativity change you.
Do the best you can at your job. Always do a little

ParkerThe movie opens with a nearly 20-minute heist
sequence, in which Parker (Jason Statham) and fourothers knock over a county fair for over a million dol-lars. The plan is executed less than flawlessly, andParker resolves never to work with the same groupagain. They unfortunately need all their loot includingParker's share to set up their next, way bigger job. Sothey leave Parker by the side of the road without hismoney but with a couple of seemingly fatal bulletwounds instead.
However, as Parker’s luck would have it, somegood Samaritans happen to pass by and rush him to ahospital. As you can probably guess, he wants a littlerevenge for what happened to him and so begins hisquest to track down his former partners.
This leads him to Palm Beach, Florida, where theguys are planning to follow through on a large jewelryheist that will get them an even bigger payday. OnceParker gets to Palm Beach, he takes on a new identityas a wealthy Texan so he can scope out the area to findout which house his ex partners are held up in beforethe heist goes down.
Instead of just takinghis revenge right away,Parker decides to do onebetter. Not only will hetake his revenge, buthe’ll also let themaccomplish the theftfirst, leaving him with all of the loot once he takesthem out.
The movie’s biggest surprise is the performance ofJennifer Lopez as a Palm Beach real estate agent whobecomes Parker’s ally as he plots his revenge. Lopez afrazzled 40-year old strapped for cash real estateagent, who lives with her soap-opera-addicted moth-er. She is divorced, her car is on the verge of re-pos-session by the bank; her job is yet to strike gold. Whatshe brings to the table is her knowledge of the PalmBeach layout not to mention she has unforced chem-istry with Statham. Lopez manages to be useful toParker when he least expects it.
Parker is a nicely done, middle-level cops-and-robbers film that delivers on the action as expected.

Cruise Ship Queen for a Day
Spending a week on a cruise ship with several
thousand strangers is not my idea of a vacation – I live
on a gorgeous Caribbean island surrounded by water
so when it’s time to get off the rock, my husband and
I prefer road trips. Our last big trip had us fly into
Vienna, drive to Prague and then onto some of the
most beautiful medieval cities in the Czech Republic
and Austria. There were storybook castles, alpine
mountains and lots of apple strudel. It was a grand
adventure, one of the best trips of my life, and it was
entirely land-bound.
So recently when I received an invitation to tour
the Riviera, a new luxury ship, which would be visit-
ing the BVI, I jumped at the chance. It seemed amaz-
ing that with all the cruise ships that stop in Road
Town each year, I had never been on one – here at
last, was my opportunity to board a ship, without
having to go to sea. At the dock I was met by the
cruise line’s Caribbean representative, Karen Negron
of D’Luxe Cruises. I was among a group of journal-
ists, Tourist Board staff and travel agents – a group
of veteran cruise ship travelers, who seemed incred-
ulous that I had reached such a venerable age and
never taken a cruise.
Boarding a cruise ship is not that easy. There is a
security protocol that makes getting through the TSA
look like a walk in the park. We went through a metal
detector, our names were ticked off a guest list and
our IDs were collected – not to be returned until we
left the ship. But once on board, it was Disney Land.
The Riviera, which is operated by Oceana Cruises, is a
luxury ship with an emphasis on elegance. Original
paintings by Latin American artists graced most of the
passageways, there was a Lalique Grand Staircase,
wood paneling and crystal chandeliers. On this ship,
opulence was optimum.
Oceana considers the Riviera a mid-size ship, but
I considered it huge. The 785 foot vessel has a guest
capacity of 1,250 and a staff of 800; it has a gym, pool,
ten restaurants from Asian to Italian and 11 guest
decks. As I went up and down the elevators I felt like I
was in a luxury Manhattan high-rise and not a boat.
The lunch was not for calorie counters, and included
soup, shrimp risotto, sea bass and beef tenderloin,
capped off by a decadent chocolate confection. Quite
a change from my normal lunch of salad or sandwich.
By the end of the day, I began to feel wistful that I
wouldn’t be staying on board. It would be back to tuna
fish sandwiches, it seemed. But I have kept the
brochure handy and have been perusing exotic port of
calls like Alaska, Istanbul, Rome and Athens. Now I
have to decide: for my next trip do I drive – or do I sail?

By Dean “The Sportsman” Greenaway
Track and Field athletes from across the territory –
including Anegada and Jost Van Dyke – are wrapping
up the 2013 Inter-Primary Schools Track and Field
Championships at the A.O. Shirley Recreation
Grounds today.
An official opening ceremony is slated for 12:30
p.m. with competition which began yesterday, resum-
ing at 2 p.m. The start time is among some of the
changes this year, which also include the revival of the
C Division for the smaller schools and two days of
competition for each school.
Schools are grouped into divisions based on their
enrollment of students in classes 1-5. Infants are not
included in the count. A Division schools are those
that have an enrollment of 100+ students. B Division
are those with to 60-99 students while the C Division
are schools with less than 60 students.
For the first time in the history of the competition,
schools across the territory were able to register their
athletes online on the BVI Athletics Association web-
site http://bvi.milesplit.com Results of yesterday’s
competition and some photos are already posted and
today’s results will be added after the meeting ends.
School records, each athlete’s performance on
their own page, and falling into the territory’s overall
ranking are features of the site which has other infor-
mation about BVI track and field in general.
On today’s competition menu is a healthy dose of
track events and field events in competitions target-
ing Under 9, U11, U13 and U15 in all three divisions.
Field events include the Shot Put, Ball Throw and Long
Jump. Track events includes the 150, 200, 600, 800
medley and 4 x 200m relays.
Regarding the age divisions, if an athlete is turn-
ing nine this year anytime before 11:59 p.m. on
December 31, he or she competes in the U11 Division.
Coming out of the Inter-Primary Championships,
the top 24 athletes in each event – regardless of divi-
sion, including the Under 15s from the April 24-25
Elmore Stoutt High School Championships – will be
specially invited to the BVI Athletics Association’s
Youth Championships in early May.
The Inter-Primary Championships are the bedrock
for identifying talent not just in track and field but
other sports.
Which school did you attend or who’s your
favorite school? Go out and support the young ath-
letes in competition today, then read all about the
results from each division as well as division champi-
ons and Victor and Victrix Ludorum on http://bvi.mile-

The objective is to fill the full 9x9 grid withdigits so that each column, each row, andeach of the nine 3x3 “sub-grids” that com-pose the main grid contains all of the digitsfrom 1 to 9 – with no repeats within each rowor column within the entire square. A partial-ly completed grid is usually provided, whichtypically has a unique solution. See nextweeks Limin’ Times issue for solution.
