The Place

to BeIn real estate, it’s all about location, location, location. The same holds true for fashion. If you want to be in the fashion industry, you have to be where it’s happening—where clothes are designed, manufactured, marketed, and sold and where you’ll find the media outlets that cover it all. In other words, New York City.

We can tout the numbers—how many fashion companies are located here (over 900), how many fashion show-rooms you can find (over 5,000), how many major fashion trade shows are held every year (over 75). But the real thing about New York City is that fabulous fashion is everywhere. Just stand at a bus stop for five min-utes in midtown Manhattan and you’ll get more fashion ideas than you’ll know what to do with.

WHERE WE AREIf you’re interested in the business of fashion, LIM College has absolutely the best location you could imagine right in the heart of midtown Manhattan. Our flagship building, The Townhouse, is at 12 East 53rd Street. That’s just blocks from Bergdorf’s, Bendel’s, and Saks, and directly across the street from Paley Park, a legendary oasis amid the city’s hustle and bustle with its very own waterfall. With other classroom sites in buildings nearby, our students report that the city itself soon starts to feel like their campus.

INDUSTRY EXPERTSBecause we’re right here in New York City, a great many of our faculty are fashion professionals who work in the industry and are always ready to share the latest inside information. They’ll be your guides on industry visits to manufacturers’ showrooms, museums, textile companies, publications offices, and more. You’ll also learn and network with the heavy hitters who come to campus as industry guest speakers.

INTERNSHIPSFrom your very first year at LIM College, you’ll have the opportunity to be out in the real world, holding internships that build up your résumé in a powerful way. Being in New York, our students regularly find positions at companies like Bloomingdale’s, Juicy Couture, Teen Vogue, and MTV. By the time you graduate from LIM College, you’ll not only have a valuable degree in hand, but also a wealth of professional industry experience that will help you stand out from the crowd.

FASHION WEEKWhat’s the most exciting fashion event in the fashion capital of the world? Hands down, it’s Fashion Week, a weeklong series of runway shows from over 70 designers that draws thousands of buyers, retailers, and members of the national and international press. Many of our students become part of this extravaganza by dressing models, setting up for the shows, and seating guests, among other exciting responsibilities.

AND IN YOUR SPARE TIME……you’ll be in New York, the city that never sleeps, with endless shopping, sightseeing, celebrity watching, and so much more. It’s safe (consistently ranked within the country’s top ten safest large cities) and although there are lots of places to drop big bucks, it can also be amazingly economical with great cheap ethnic eateries, no need for a car, and loads of free stuff to do.

“ LIM COLLEGE PROVIDES GREAT CONNECTIONS IN THE FASHION INDUSTRY, WHILE EXPERIENCING

THE EXCITEMENT OF NEW YORK CITY.” — Miaya Darby, ’15, Management

“ WALKING THROUGH MIDTOWN, ESPECIALLY DOWN 5TH AVENUE , INSPIRES ME EACH AND EVERY DAY TO ACHIEVE MY CAREER GOALS. THERE IS NO OTHER PLACE I’D RATHER

STUDY FASHION.” — Scott Brown, ’14, Fashion Merchandising
