Chapter1-TheHiddenPowerofTakingaLightTouch
Formostpeople,thethoughtoftakingalighttouchintheirlivesseemsunimaginable.Whatdoesitreallymeantotakealighttouch?Doesitmeangivingupandnottryingsohardinlife?Doesitmeansettlingforless?Ordoesitmeanaskingforthingsandacceptingthatwemaynothaveitall?Thesearesomeofthethemeswewillexploreinthisbook.
Wehavebeentaughtallthroughourlivesthatgoingafterwhatwewant(withallourmight)is
virtuous.Justtheotherday,Iwassurprisedbytheresponsegivenbyoneofmycollegestudents.Ihadaskedhimabouthisphilosophyinlifeandherepliedthathewasalways“lookingforabiggerfight.”Whileheofcoursemeantthismetaphoricallyintermsofalwayslookingforbetteropportunitiesandbiggerchallengesinlife,Icouldnothelpbutwonderwhoorwhatmighthaveinculcatedthismindsetinhisyoungmind.
Whoinstilledtheideainsomanyofusthatlifeisaboutengaginginconstantbattleswith
unknownenemies,problemsandissues?Whoevengaveustheideathatlifeisastruggle,thatwehaveto“tryhard”togetwhatwewant…becausewemaynotalwaysgetwhatweaskfor?(Thatinitselfisanotherpervasivebelief.)Implicitinhisinnocentresponselaythehiddenbeliefthatlifeisonelongfight,oraseriesofproblemsandchallengesafteranother.Sadly,thatisalsotherealitywhichmanypeopleexperienceonadailybasisasaresultofholdingthisfundamentallyfaultybelief.
Lifealwaysgivesbacktoyouwhatyoustronglybelievein.Ifyoubelieve(ataverydeeplevel)
thatlifeisastruggle,apain,andmadeupofonesetofchallengesafteranother…thenthatiswhatyouaregoingtoexperienceinyoureveryday,outerreality.Itdoesnotmatterthatyourelishachallengeorholdsomeverypositiveattitudesaboutfacingthevariouschallengesinyourlife.Life(theUniverse)isjustgoingtothrowupmoreobstaclesandproblemsinyourway.
Iamoftensentinspirationalstoriesofvariousindividualswhohavetriumphedagainstthe
challengesintheirlivesandemergedvictoriousagainstallodds.Ifyoulookcloselyatthelivesofmanyoftheseindividuals,you’llfindthattheirdaysarefilledwithone“obstacle”afteranother,whetherintheformofhealth,relationshipchallenges,businessfailuresorsomeothercatastrophicevent.Ofcourse,theymighthaveemergedvictoriousagainstthesestumblingblocksintheirlivesandeventackledthemhead-onwithgreatdetermination.Theirspiritiscommendable,butthereisstillabigquestionleftunanswered—Whydothesechallengeskeepoccurring(orrecurring)intheirlives?Whyisitthatwhenonecrisisissolvedoraverted,thenextoneloomsjustroundthecorner?Couldsomethingbefaultyintheirownbeliefsystem?
Ihaveoftentaught(justasIdiscoveredformyself)thatanytimethereisarecurringpatternof
positiveornegativeeventsinone’slife…itislikelycausedbyastrong,underlyingbelief.Mostofthetime,thesebeliefsareunconsciousandnotobvioustothepersonwhoholdsthem.Oneofthemostpervasivebeliefsinourcultureisthat“lifeisastruggle.”Anindividualwhobelievessowillbefacedwithonemajorchallengeafteranotherinlifebecausethatiswhatheexpectsandfocusesupon.
Anotherrelatedbeliefisthatthereissomehigherbeing(forexample,God)whois“testing”usbydeliberatelygivingusallthesetrialsandtribulations.Therefore,wemustendurethesehardshipsinorderto“proveourworth”toGod.
Thisisperhapsoneofthemostdis-empoweringandself-defeatingbeliefsthatiscommonto
believersoforganizedreligions.Onehastorealizewhyitisintheinterestofreligiousleaderstoperpetuatethisbelief.Theythemselvesdonotknowbetter.Whatelsecanyousaytothethrongsoffollowerswhoarefacinghardshipandproblemsintheirlivesandknockingatyourdoor?Whatbetterwaytoexplaintheirpainandsufferingbytellingthemthatitisa“trial”fromahigherbeing,andthatitisonlythroughtheseteststhattheywillbeworthyofgreaterthingsinlife?
Anyonewhohasstudiedandexaminedthesespiritualprinciplesforthemselveswillknowthat
thisisabsolutelyuntrue.Youdonothavetotakemywordforit.Neitherdoyouhavetotakethewordoftheleadersoforganizedreligions.Youcanproveallofthistoyourselfandknowthetruthataverydeepandintimatelevelthroughyourownspiritualpractice.Nointermediaryormediumisnecessary.Inotherwords,youcanknowGod,andknowthenatureofdivinitythroughyourownbeingnessalone.
Whenyouareawareofthenatureofyourownbeingthroughcontinuedfocusonyourinner
states,you’llquicklyrealizeandunderstandthatGodisomnipotentandthatGodiseverything.ThereisnoplaceornothingthatGodisnot.Assuch,itfollowsthatGodknowseverythingandhasnoneedtosetthingsupinorderto“test”anyone.WhywouldGoddoso?You’llalsorealizethatyouareinseparablefromGod,infactyouareGod.YouareUniversal,divinesourceenergyprojectedthroughaphysicalconsciousness.SowhywouldGod(orthisUniversaldivineforce)needtosetouttodeliberatelytestitself?Thereisnothingitisnot,nothingitdoesnotknow,andnothingitneedstoknow.Onceyouseethetruenatureofyourbeing,manyoftheseuntruebeliefsperpetuatedthroughsuperstitionorpropagandaimmediatelyfallapartontheirownaccord.Butproveeverythingtoyourself.
Anothercommonbeliefisthatweneedtofacethechallengesandproblemsinourlife
positively.Thatiscertainlyagoodbelieftohave,untilyoustopandponderwhyyouhaveallthesechallengestodealwithinthefirstplace.Isitbecauseyoubelievethatlifeisaboutsolvingoneproblemafteranother?Isitbecauseyouhavecometoexpecthumanlifeasonefilledwithproblems,hardshipandchallenges?Ifso,facingyourchallenges“positively”onlycompoundstheissue.Youaresettingyourselfupinanendlessloop—forsomereallytoughchallengesinlifesothattheycanthenbe“handled”positivelybyyou.Doyouseetheconundrumthatmostpeopleunknowinglygetthemselvesinto?Bysimultaneouslybelievingthatlifeisastruggle(belief#1)andthatitisavirtuetomeetchallengeshead-on(belief#2),theyhaveunknowinglysetupalifeofstruggleandstriveforthemselves.
Perhapsitistimetointendanalternativereality,inwhichyourlifeisoneofeaseandflowand
dropthenotionofchallengesorproblemsfromyourmindonce-and-for-all.You’llbesurprisedatwhathappensonceyouadoptthisnewintentioninlife.
Forthefirsthalfofmylife,Ibelievedwholeheartedlythatlifewasastruggleandthatitwasa
seriesofproblemsandchallengesafteranother.Ihadcometobelievethateverything,rangingfrommyfinancestorelationships,wasdifficult.Iadoptedthisbeliefunconsciouslyfrommyparentsandfromthosearoundme,whoconstantlycomplainedthatlifewastoughandthatitis“naturaltohaveproblemsinlife”.Therearealsovarious“inspirational”storiesmakingtheirroundsabouthowtheonlypeoplewhodonothaveproblemsinlifearethosewhoaredead!Whilethesestoriescertainlyservetomotivateandinspireusintoughtimes,theyalsounintentionallykeepustrapped.Thesestoriesperpetuatethemistakenbeliefthatproblemsaretobeexpectedinlife,sowemustfacethemwithgustowhenevertheycropup.
Mysuggestionforyouistogentlydropthenotionof“problem”or“challenge”fromyour
consciousnessentirely.Iwillshowyouaneasywaytodosointhesecondhalfofthisbook.You’llbesurprisedatwhathappenswhenyoudoso.IspentthefirsthalfofmylifeworryingmyselftodepressionandtothevergeofsuicidebecauseIsawnofeasiblewayoutofmyproblemsandsuffering.Lifejustseemedtobeonechallengeafteranother.Therewasverylittlejoyinmylife,andwhateverjoyIfoundwasconditionalandshort-lived.
However,onceIunderstoodthesespiritualteachingsandappliedtheminmyownlife…
everythingturnedaroundwithinaveryshortperiodoftime.EvenIamamazedatmyownprogressasIlookback!Whathappenedhere?Didalltheproblematicpeopleandeventsinmylifesimplyfadeawayovernight?No,theystillremained(physically)inmyrealityforawhilemore,butmyinnerstatehaschangeddrastically.Iamnolongerthesamepersonontheinside.AsIcontinuedtomaintainmynewfoundinnerstateofloveandpeace,theybecamevibrationally/energeticallyincompatiblewithmynewinnerstateandhencehadtoleavemylifeinonewayoranother,withoutmyactiveintervention.Thisdoesnotmeanthattheyallpassedonphysically(thankfully!),itjustsimplymeansthatwehavebecomesovibrationallyincompatiblewitheachotherthatourpathsnolongercrossed.Wenolongerattractedeachotherintoourownexperience.
TheUniversehasinfinitewaystosatisfy,delightandfulfillthedestiniesofeachandeveryone
ofus.ThismeansthatIcancontinuelivinginawaythatisinaccordancewithmyhighestintentions,andsocanthey.AsIfocusedmoreonchangingmyselfandworkingonmyowninnerstate,outerrealityhadtomatchuptomynewlevelofconsciousness.ThisisUniversalLaw.
Wearegoingtoadoptathree-stepapproachinthisbook.Thefirststepisto“dealwith”the
currentproblemsandchallengesinyourlifewithalighttouch.Thisisprobablythelasttimewewillmentiontheconceptof“challenges”or“problems”becausewhatwearegoingtodoistodropthemcompletelyfromourconsciousness.Weareerasingthisconceptof“problems”fromourmentalawareness.Itisalsothelasttimewewillusetheanalogyof“solving”or“dealingwith”them.Butfortheeaseofexpositionandexplanation,let’ssticktotheoldvernacularforthetimebeing.
Onceyouhaveerasedalltheperceivedproblemsandchallengesinyourownlife,itistimeto
moveontothesecondstage.Thesecondstageisoneinwhichyouconsciouslydecidewhatyouwanttocreateasaconsciouscreator.Butitisimportanttoreturnyourconsciousnesstoablankslatefirst.Itisdifficulttomaintainyourfocusandpurposefullycreateifyourconsciousnessisfilledwithworriesandproblems,whichiswhyitiscrucialthatwedroptheminthefirststage.
Thethirdstepiswhereyougiveeverythinguptothehigherpowerwithinyou.Infact,thisiswhenyourealizethatyouarethishigherpowerwhichyouhavebeenseekingyourwholelife!Theinfinitebeingwhichyouareseeking…isyou!Thegoodthatyouareseekingisyou!Thisiswhatspiritualteachersmeanwhentheysay:Thegoodyouareseekingisseekingyou!ThisisthefinalstagewhichIhopeyouwillbeatbythetimeyoufinishreadingthisbook.Ofcourse,everyonestartsatadifferentplaceandsowillperceivethismaterialslightlydifferently.Eachreaderwillhavetheirowntakeaways,butIamconvincedthatyouwillatleastgainsomenewunderstandingfromthisworkifyoufollowthegeneralpathIhavesketched.
WhatIhaveattemptedtodointhisbookisnottofiteverythingintoarigid,step-by-stepsystem.
Ihavenevertakenwelltoastep-by-stepapproachforspiritualgrowthormanifestations.Rather,Irecognizethateachofusstartfromadifferentplaceandmayhavedifferentpreferencesandstylesfordiscoveringourinnerworlds.Assuch,Ihavelaidoutaroadmapwithbroaderprinciples.Youarewelcometoinventyourownrulesortomakethingsupasyougoalong,basedonyourownunderstandingandapplicationofthesebroaderprinciples.Myexplanationsinthisbookaremeanttoclarifyandguide,andcertainlynotmeanttorestrict.Theyareallintendedtosetyouonapathofponderingandhigherself-realization.
Thisisanexperientialbook.Aswithallofmyrecentworks,Ihavemovedfrommerely
“explaining”conceptsonpapertoinvitingreaderstoexperiencewhatI’msharingforthemselves.Thisisanotherwayofsayingthatyoudon’thavetotakemeatthelevelofmywords!YouarealwayswelcometoexperienceexactlywhatIamwritinganddescribingthroughthesewords.Whenyoudoso,youreachanevengreaterlevelofunderstanding.Whenyourownpersonalexperiencematchesuptowhatyouhaveread,youwillnowbeabletoconfidentlysay,“NowIknowexactlywhatyouaretalkingabout!Sothisishowitfeels!”Thisformoflearningwillstaywithyou.Youwillbepositivelytransformedasaresultofthisexperienceinmorewaysthanone.Therefore,Iencourageyoutohavefunwithallofthisasyouread.Don’tjustreadandmemorizemywords.Instead,readandapplymywords.Actthemoutandlivethemonaphysicallevel.Onlythenwillyourealizetheirtruepowerforyourself.
Lifeismeanttobeeasy.Whenyoutakealighttouchandstoppushingsohardagainstthe
perceivedissuesandchallengesinyourlife,theystoppushingbackatyouaswell.Anewfoundsenseofease,flowandnaturalmomentumsoonemerges.Iamsoexcitedandthrilledtobesharingthisnewwayoflivingwithyouinthepagesthatfollow.Let’sgetstarted!
Chapter2-UnderstandingYourInternalFilingSystem
Asonedeepenshisspiritualpractice,hestartstorealizeasimpleandfundamentaltruth.Thistruthwouldhavebeenunimaginableorevenunfathomabletohimbefore,forhisoldwayofoperatingintheworldwouldnothaveallowedforit.YetasanindividualdeepenshisconnectionwithSource(spirit/divinity),hebeginstorealizethatalltheproblemsinhisworldareman-made.Putdifferently,problemsareanartificial,man-madeconstructheldinplacebyourbeliefs.Realizingthisisthefirststeptoultimatefreedom.
Aconstructisatheoreticalconceptwhichwehavecreatedinourmindsthroughourperception
orunderstandingofasituation.Differentpeoplecanlookatthesamesituation(thesamesetoffacts)andcomeupwithcompletelydifferentconclusionsaboutthematter.Asaresult,theymayholddifferingviewpointsandopinionsabouttheverysamefacts,andbeutterlyconvincedthattheirviewpointsarevalid!Whatourminddoeswhenitperceivesanysituationistodistortandorganizetheinformationinawaythatfitsourexistingbeliefsandworldviews.Itdoessoautomaticallybydefault,somuchsothatweoftendonotrealizetheunderlyingfilingprocessthathastakenplace.
Wheneverweattemptto“file”or“categorize”somethingintobroadcategoriesforeaseof
retrieval,weinvariablyloseacertainlevelofdetailwhilegaininganartificial“structure”thatholdseverythingtogether.Thisstructureisonethathasspecialmeaningforussowecanalwaysfallbackonitwhenneeded.
SupposethatIhavesetupafilingsysteminmyofficeorganizedbythetypeofdocuments
received.Imaythenhaveafileformybills,anotherfileformycontracts,anotherfileformyunfinishedmanuscriptsandsoon.Whenabillformymobilephonesubscriptioncomesin,itimmediatelygoesintothefileforallmybills.Idothesameformycreditcardandutilitiesbillforthemonth.WhenIneedtorefertomycreditcardbillfromlastDecember,Iinstinctivelyknowwheretolookasaresultofmyfilingsystem.Havingafilingsystemspeedsthingsupandallowsmetomakesenseofalltheinformationthatisthrownatmeinameaningfulway.
IfIhadchosentosetupmyfilingsystembasedonthecorporationI’mdealingwith,Iwould
haveonefileformymobilecarrier,onefileforthecreditcardcompany,onefilefortheutilitiescompanyandsoon.Mymobilephoneandcreditcardbillswouldnowendupindifferentfilesasaresultofmynewwayofclassification.Notethatthewayofclassificationiscompletelyarbitraryanduptome.IcanchoosetosetupmyfilingsysteminwhateverwayIchoose,solongasIsticktothesamesetoffilingrulesoncetheyhavebeendecidedupon.
Thiswayofclassificationissimilartowhathappensinourownbeliefsystem.Infact,thebelief
systemthatoperatesatthelevelofourmindissimilartoaphysicalfilingsystem.Wehavesetupvariousrulesinadvancetodealwith(interpret)eachnewpieceofinformationthatcomesup.Unlikeourphysicalfilingsystemswhichmayhavebeenthoughtfullydesigned,thisinternalbeliefsystemwasbuiltupwithalargenumberofhaphazard,oftenillogicalrulesoveraperiodoftime.Someof
these“rules”mayhavebeenputinplacewhenweweresmallchildrenorbyvariousauthorityfiguresinourlives.Weoftendonotcloselyexaminethe“decisionrules”whichweusetorespondtovariouslifesituations,andthiscanleadtounnecessarypainandsuffering.
Forexample,ifyouhavealwaysbelievedthatpeoplearegenerallyunkindandrudetoothers
(yourbelief),theneachencounterwithabrusqueindividualwillbeinterpretedinawayconsistentwiththatbelief.Thisresultsinabeliefthatisslowlybutsurelystrengthenedovertime.Eachnewencounterbecomesaconfirmationthatpeopleinthisworldareindeedselfishanduncaring.Nowsupposethatyourunderlyingbeliefisthatpeoplearekindandgenerous.Whathappenswhenyouhaveanunpleasantencounterwithsomeone?Insteadofperceivingthatindividualasinherentlyrudeandunkind,youmayinsteadattributehisbehaviortoabaddayatwork,ortosomevalidreasonwhichcausedhimtobeupset.Doyouseewhatjusthappenedhere?Theexactsamesetofcircumstancesontheoutside,butcompletelydifferentinterpretationsontheinside.Ourminddoesthisfilingprocesseverysinglemomentofeveryday,interpretinganddistortingwhatitobservestofitourinnermostbeliefswithoutusrealizingit.
Ifyouunderstandmyanalogyabove,itbecomeseasytoseewhyallproblemsareactuallyman-
madeconstructs.Allproblemsinourworldcanbetracedtoanoriginating,faultybelief.Oncethatbeliefischangedordropped,thentheoutersituationhastoberestored.
Thefirstindividualinourearlierexamplehasaproblem.His“problem”isthatpeopleinthis
worldarerude,selfishanduncaring,andhethereforeneedstotakeextrastepstosafeguardagainstthem.Someonewhooperateswiththisnegativebeliefwillthenengageinlotsofdefensiveandpoliticalactionsattheworkplace,quitepossiblyleadingtheindividualintoevenmoreunhappysituationswithhisco-workers.Eachadditionalunhappysituationfurtherreinforceshisoriginalbeliefandmayevenleadtotheformationofadditionalunresourcefulbeliefs.Hehasthus,byvirtueofhisownbeliefs,attractedmoreandmoreoftheunwanted.ThisisthefundamentalLawofAttractionatwork.
Thesecondindividualwhoperceivespeopleinthisworldaskind,generousandcaringdoesnot
havetheseissues.Becauseheperceiveseveryoneaskindandalwayswillingtohelp,herespondsinasimilarfashionintheworld.Hethusattractshimselftomoreandmorehappysituationsthatmatchhisdeeplyheldbeliefs.Evenwhenheencountersasituationtothecontrary,hisbeliefsystemclassifiesitasananomalyandhedismissesitascontrarytohisownbeliefs.Thisiswhybothpositiveandnegativebeliefscanbepervasiveanddifficulttochangeoncetheyareformed.
Eachnewinputfromtheexternalworld(eachnewdocumentwereceive)eitherconfirmsor
invalidatesourpreviousbeliefs.However,itisthejobofyourbeliefsystemtoassimilatethesenewpiecesofinformationintoyourcurrentbeliefsasmuchaspossible.Assuch,ourmindsoftendistortandgeneralizetheinformationwithoutusrealizingit.Putdifferently,wedonothaveanobjectiveviewofourownreality.Instead,weinterpretrealityinamannerthatisconsistentwithourexistingbeliefswithoutrealizingwearedoingso.Justasinaphysicalfilingsystem,“abillfromthemobilephonecarrier”generalizesinto“abill”sothatitcanfitintotherightfile.Similarly,anunpleasantencounterwitharudeservicestaffgeneralizesinto“peoplearerude”sothatthenewencountercanfitunderanexistingbelief.Noticehowwelosethefulldetailsofthesituationeachtimeweclassifyor
fileitaccordingtoourbeliefs.Thisisourbrain’swayofmakingsenseoftheinformationandworldaroundus.
Onceyouhaveunderstoodhowourinternalfilingsystemworks,wecanseethesourceof
problems/issues/challengesinourlives.Whenyourofficeisinadisorganizedmess,arethedocumentsthemselvestheproblem…oristhereaproblemwithyourfilingsystem,andwithhowyouhandlethevariousdocuments?Doyoublamethevariouspartiesthatsendyoulettersandcorrespondencesinthemail,ordoyouattributetheproblemtoaninefficientfilingsystemthatneedstobeimproved?
Whenthereisadisorganizedmessonourdesk,weknowbetterthantoblamethedocuments
andpiecesofpaperthemselves.Wedonotdemandthatthecompaniesstopsendingusthoseletters.Instead,whatwedoistofixtherootcauseoftheissue—ourfilingsystem.Weexaminewhichaspectofthefilingsystemhasresultedinthismessandrectifytheoversightaccordingly.
Supposewefindourdeskalwayspiledhighwithacertaindocument.Thismakesusrealizethat
wehavenofilesetuptohandlethisparticulartypeofcorrespondence.Thesolutionistosetupanewringfileinwhichallthesedocumentscanbefiled,insteadofhavingthempileuponourdeskinfuture.Whatwehavedonehereistoincorporateanewfilingruletodealwiththemess.Focusingontheindividualpiecesofpaper(eventsinourlives)themselveswillbedoingitthehardway,becausewewouldnothavedealtwiththeissuecompletely.Thismeansthatthenexttimewereceivethesamedocument,thesameissueof“wheretofileit”or“howtohandleit”cropsupagain.Theissueisafaultyfiling(belief)system,nottheeventsinourexternalreality.Infact,arecurringeventgivesusastrongindicationthatsomethingneedstobecorrectedinourbeliefsystem.
Ilovethisfilinganalogybecauseitprovidesanaccuraterepresentationofhowouremotional
systemswork.Ouremotional(mentalfiling)systemsbecomeoverloadedwhenwedonothaveaneffectivebelief/filingsystemtodealwithlife.Anindividualwithaweak,overridinglynegativebeliefsystemisunabletocopewiththevariousinputsfromtheoutsideworldinaresourcefulandempoweringway.Whatoftenresultsisthatthisindividualfallsintoastateofdepression,astateinwhichthemindcannotcopewithexternalstimuliandseekstolimittheamountofinputreceivedasmuchaspossible.Thisisakintotryingtoreducethenumberofdocumentswereceiveonadailybasisinordertodealwiththemessonourdesks,whichisabackwardandunrealisticsolutiontotheissue.Therealissuethatneedstobeaddressedisthefaultybeliefsysteminitself.
Toanuntrainedmind,thereisnothingmoreitcandootherthantodeliberatelytryandreduce
theamountofexternalstimulireceived.Depressedindividualsoftenhaveverypoorappetiteandcoopthemselvesupathomeallthetime.Ishouldknow,becauseIwasoncedepressedforafewyears!Duringthisperiodoftime,allIcoulddofrommorningtonightwastostareatthewallandcry.WhenIwasnotcrying,Iwasasleep.Whatmymindwastryingtodoatthattimewastominimizetheexternalstimulifromexternaleventsandfrominteractingwithothers.Cryingwasawayforthebodytoreleasetheemotionaloverload.

AllIneededtodobackthenwastoeaseoffalittle,torealizethateverythingoriginatedfrom
myfaultybeliefsandnotfromthetangibleeventsinmyouterworld.Whenyourealizethatyourbeliefsarearbitraryandcanbechangedatanytime,justlikehowtherulesofafilingsystemcaneasilybechanged,youarefree.
Chapter3-UnboxingTheBlackBoxofManifestations
Whyisitimportanttooutlineandclearlydescribetheinnerworkingsofourbeliefsystem?OnethingIrealizedwhenreadingself-helpandspiritualbooksearlyoninmyjourneywasthattheyalwaystalkedaboutthepowerofourbeliefsandthesubconsciousmind.Despitedelvingintogreatdetailonhownegativebeliefscouldsabotageourmanifestations,notasinglebookeverexplainedinastep-by-stepmannerhowourbeliefsystemworksandhowitrelatestoourphysicalmanifestations.Instead,thesebooksallviewedourinternalbeliefsystemasa“blackbox”andskippedstraighttoexplainingtheconsequencesofhavingnegativebeliefs.Asaresult,readersareoftenleftinalurchandendupformingmistakenconceptsaboutourbeliefsystem.Withoutunderstandingthisblackbox,wecanmakeverylittleprogresstowardschangingourunhelpfulbeliefs.

system.Becausesofewteachershaveeverexplainedhowthebeliefsystemworks,studentshavegoneontoformtheirownuninformedviews.Themostcommonmisconceptionisthatourbeliefsystemisapowerful,magical“thing”thatsomehowmakesthingshappeninourlives.Therefore,someindividualsbelieve(duetoalackofunderstanding)thatoncetheyinstillaparticularbeliefintheirlifethattheycanhavesomething,thatwhattheyaskformagicallypopsupintotheirexternalreality!Yetthatisnotthewayitworks.

automaticallybringyoumorebusiness?Doesthefileautomaticallyfillitselfup?Absolutelynot!Thefilewillnotfillitselfupunlessyoualsomakesomechangesinthewayyouoperatetosolicitthosenewbusiness.Sono,justinstillinganewbeliefinyourselfwillnotautomaticallyfillupyourrealitywithmorestuff.
Thesecondmisconceptionisthatourbeliefsystemisthispowerfulentitythatrunsourlife.This
isascarythoughtbecauseitsuggeststhatweareunderthewhimsandfanciesofourbeliefsystem,andthatwearesomehowpowerlesstochangeit.Thisisagainuntrue.Thinkaboutthefilingsystemyouhaveinyouroffice.Itisapowerfulsystembecauseithelpsyoumakesenseandorganizeallyourincominginformationinameaningfulway.Itmayalsohelpyoumakesomeprettygoodbusinessandlifedecisions.Butdoesitmakethosedecisionsforyou?Doesitexertanyphysicalcontroloveryou,totheextentofmakingyouactinaparticularwaywhenyoudonotwantto?Absolutelynot!Yourfilingsystemispowerfulbecauseitorganizesinformationandgivesmeaningtothem,butnothingbeyondthat.Eventhe“rules”whichyouascribetoyourfilingsystemarearbitraryandcanbe
changed!Therulesbythemselveshavenopoweroveryou.Itishowyouhaveallowedyourselftoabidebythoserulesovertimethathasresultedinpowerful,outerchanges.SoIoftenfinditamusingthatsometeachersascribegreatpowertothebeliefsystemasifitisanoverridingforceinourlifethatabsolutelycannotbechanged.Thatcannotbefurtherfromthetruth.Wecanchoosetochangeourbeliefsystematanytime,andabeliefisnotsomethingthatphysicallyhasinfluenceoveryou.Itissimplyathoughtthatyouthinkover-and-overagain.
Ithelpstothinkofyourbeliefsystemintheproperframeworkbecausethatwillgiveyouthe
much-neededfreedomandleewaytorecognizeyourpowerasatruecreator.Insteadofseeingyourbeliefsystemasanadversaryinthemanifestationprocess,seeitasafriendthatautomatesandsimplifiesthings!Onceyourecognizetheroleyourbeliefsystemplaysinyourmanifestations,you’llunderstandwhymostpeoplekeepgettingtheresultstheyhavebeengettingintheirlives.
Nowthatwehavediscussedwhatthebeliefsystemisnot,letustalkaboutwhatitis.Hereiswhat
ourbeliefsystemis—Itissimplyasetofruleswhichwehaveallowedourselvestofollowovertime.Theserulesdeterminehowwewillrespondtosituations,howwewillreacttosituationsandwhatcropsupinourconsciousnessmostofthetime.Itisveryimportanttorealizethattheserules/beliefsarearbitraryandcanbechangedatanytime.
Thispointisworthrepeating:Yourbeliefsarearbitraryandcanbechangedatanytime,should
youdecideto.Oneisnevercaptivetotheirbeliefs,unlessapartofthemchoosestodoso.Also,itisnotimportantwhyyoucametohavethatbeliefinthefirstplace.Ihaveneverfoundthevalueinlookingforthe“source”ofourbeliefs.Beliefscansometimesbeformedspontaneouslyandwithverylittleconsciousintervention,suchasduringatraumaticeventorwhenwewereyoungandundertheinfluenceofauthorityfiguresinourlives.Therefore,thereisverylittlevalueinlookingforthesourceororiginofourbeliefs.Whatmattersisthatwecanchangeourbeliefsinaninstantifwewantedto.
Allthroughourlives,wehavebeenunconsciouslyacceptinginputintoourbeliefsystem.This
inputcomesintheformofevents,peopleandcircumstances.Theperfectexampleofthiscanbeseeninthelifeofayoungchild.Ayoungchildcomesintothisworldandstartsreceivinginputthemomenthe/sheisborn.Infact,hereceivesthisinputeverymomentofthedaywithverylittlecontrolandinfluenceoverwhathereceives.Atthisstageofhislife,hisparents(theauthorityfiguresinhislife)supplymostofhisbeliefsandheacceptsthemwithoutquestion.Thisiswhyalargeportionofourbeliefsaboutourworthiness,deservingnessandhowtodealwithothersinthisworldareunconsciouslyformedbeforetheageofsix.Thechildispowerlesstopreventthedownloadingorinstallationofthesebeliefsinhisbeliefsystem.Hesimplyacceptsthemas-is.Theissueiscompoundedwhenthechildgrowsupinafamilywheretheparenthasasubstanceaddictionorrelationshipissues.Inthiscase,thechildtendstogrowupwithaskewedworldviewwhichmaythenmanifestitselfas“problems”and“issues”lateroninownlife.
Evenwithouttraininginanyofthismaterial,mostadultsareabletoidentifycertainaspectsof
theirpersonalitythatmatchthatoftheirparents.Whydoyouthinkthisisso?That’sright,wedownloadedandacceptedtheirbeliefsforourselveswhenwewereyoung.Sincetheyweretheauthorityfiguresinourlife,wemimickedtheirwayoflivingandoperatinginthisworld,whether
theirwayswerebeneficial,resourcefulorotherwise.Knowingthisisthefirststeptopersonalfreedom.
Whenwewereyoung,wedidnothavetheabilitytoacceptorrejectanyofthesepersonal
beliefs.Wedidnothavethediscerningabilitytodecidewhatwasgoodforus.Asadultshowever,wehavetheabilitytorejectmuchoftheinputwhichwereceivearoundus.Forexample,whenweseesomeoneindulginginfastfood,wemaythink“Ohthatisanunhealthyhabit!”andthuspreventtheformationofthatbelief/habitinourbeliefsystem.Achilddoesnothavethesamepowertorejectanyofthisexternalinput.OnebeliefthatIunknowinglydownloadedfrommymotherwasthat“thingscouldgowronginlife”,andhence“Ineededtoplanaheadforeverysinglethingthatcouldgowrong.”Thesebeliefskeptmealwaysonthevergeofbreakdownandmademeaworrywartformostofmyadultlife,untilIrealizedtheunderlyingbeliefsandmadeitapointtodropthem.Themoreyoulookatyourownlife,themoreyouwillidentifycertainbeliefsthatgiverisetorecurringbehavior.Ifyoulookcloselyenough,thebeliefswillrevealthemselvestoyou.Justbecomingawareofthesebeliefsbythemselvescanbeaveryliberatingexperience.
Oncethesebeliefsareembeddedinourbeliefsystem,webeginaprocessofconfirmingthem.
Theconfirmationprocessmeansthatwewillinterpretexternalstimuliinawaythatisconsistentwithourexistingbeliefs,thussolidifyingthem.Asmentionedinthepreviouschapter,thisistheego’swayofmakingusfeelsafeandsecure.Theconfirmationprocessalsocausesusto“seekout”newexperiencesthatmatchourlongheldbeliefs.Thusanindividualmayfindhimselfinrecurringsituationsover-and-overagain,justto“prove”tohimselfthathisbeliefsarevalid.
Theothercomponentofourbeliefsystemisthatwealsoengageinan“attraction”process.This
iswherethefundamentalLawofAttractioncomesintoplay.Everythoughtandfeelingthatweholdcarrieswithitanemotional,energeticcharge.Thatiswhyweliterallyfeelsomethinginourbodiesaswethinkathoughtorhaveafeeling!Wearefeelingthisenergyrunningthroughourbodies.Fortunatelyorunfortunately,thisenergydoesnotjustdonothing.Althoughthisenergyisinitiallynon-physicalinnature,itactuallyaffectstheUniversalenergeticfieldaroundusintangibleways.
Whatthismeansisthateachthoughtwethinkandeachfeelingwefeelcarrieswithitan
equivalentenergeticcharge.Themoreintensethefeeling,themorepowerfulandintensetheenergeticcharge.Thisenergeticchargegoesontoattractthoughtsandfeelingsofasimilarnature,whicheventuallyculminateinphysicalmanifestations.
Inotherwords,asingleunitofenergyattractsmoreandmoreunitsofenergyofsimilar
frequencyandnature…untilitattractssomuchenergythatitbecomesaphysicallyobservableblobofenergy,whichisaphysicalobject!Youcanobservethisreadilyinyourownlife.Ifyouhaveallowedyourselftothinkangrythoughtsorstewoveranegativeissueinyourlife,youwouldhavebecomeangrierandangrier.Thisisthefirststageinwhichyourthoughtsattractedmoreangrythoughtsandfeelings.Ifyouheldontothosefeelingsforlongenough,theywouldthenresultinsomeformofanunpleasantphysicalmanifestationorconfrontationdowntheroad.Thisisthesecondstageinwhichtheenergysurroundinganissueisbigenoughtoresultinaphysicalmanifestation.Thisismanifestationsexplainedinanutshell!
Youcanalsoreversetheexampleaboveandsubstitute“angry”for“happy”.Ifyouallowyourselftothinkhappythoughtsalldaylong,youwouldattractmoreandmorehappythoughtstoyourconsciousness.Youwouldhavemorethingstobehappyaboutandlifewouldbesoperfectforyou!Eventually,youwouldhaveattractedsomuchhappyenergythatahappyphysicalmanifestationbecomesinevitable!ThisishowtheLawofAttractionworksatthemostbasiclevel.
Andso,yourbeliefsystemengagesinthejobof“attraction”and“confirmation”alldaylong.
Youattractmoreofwhatisconsistentwithyourinnermostbeliefs.Onceyouunderstandthismechanism,you’renowwellonyourwaytocreatingwhateveryouwantinyourouterrealitywithinaveryshorttime.
Letustalkaboutathirdfunctionofthebeliefsystembesides“attraction”and“confirmation”.
Ourbeliefsystemfeedsuswithreferencematerial.Thinkofyourfilingsystemasalibrary.Youhavedifferentdocumentsfiledinitwhichyoucanrefertoatwill.Whenyou’rebored,youcanjustgoovertooneofthefiles,pickitupandreadthecontentsinside.Thisisakeypoint—Whatyoureadwilldependonwhatisfiledinyourfilingsystem.Whileitmayseemobvious,thisisactuallyacrucialpointwhenitcomestoourbeliefsystem.Whatyouhaveaccumulatedinyourbeliefsystemasaresultofthe“attraction”and“confirmation”processdeterminesyourdefaultconsciousness,andwhatyouthinkaboutmostofthetime!Forexample,ifIhavethebeliefthatIneedtoplanforthingsthatcangowronginlife,allofthe“documents”inmybeliefsystemwillbeofasimilarnature.Iwouldhaveattractedandfiledalonglistofthingsthathavegonewronginmylifeandinotherpeople’slives.Therefore,whenIneedanyevidencetobackupmybelief,mybeliefsystemreadilydeliversthatinformationtome.
Rightnow,Iamwritingthisinmylibraryfilledwithbeautifulmetaphysicalandspiritualbooks.
Asaresult,myconsciousnessisfilledwiththeteachingsfromallthesebooks.Icangouptoanybookshelfandpulloutanybookatrandom,anditwilleitherbeaspiritualorself-helpbook.Whycan’tIpulloutabookaboutgardening?It’ssimple,booksaboutgardeningdon’tevenexistinthislibraryofminethatIhavebuilt!Thesameappliestoyourbeliefsystem.Ifyouhavefilledyourbeliefsystemwiththoughtsandbeliefsoflackandlimitation,theneverybeliefyoupulloutwillbeonecenteredonlackandlimitation.Youwillnotbeabletopulloutanythingonprosperity,andthusyouwillneverbeableto“attract”anythingthatiscountertoyourcurrently-heldbeliefs.Thisisanotherkeypoint.
Theinterestingthingaboutourbeliefsystemisthatitthrowsthingsupintoourconsciousness
basedonwhatwehavepreviouslyfiledinside.Thesethoughtsarisespontaneouslyinsideourmind.Thinkofitasafaithfullibrarianwhobringsyouarandombooktoreadeveryonceinawhile,exceptthatthislibrarianofourminddoessoeverysinglemoment,witheverysinglethoughtthatpassesthroughourconsciousness.Wheredoyouthinkitgetsthesethoughtsfrom?Itgetsthemfromwhatyouhaveaccumulatedandfiledinyourbeliefsystemthroughoutyourentirelife!Andyouhadbettermakesurewhatyoufilediswhatyouwanttoread,becauseitcanneverdeliveranythingtothecontrary,orgiveyouanythingthatisnotthere.
Doesitmakesensenow?Ifyouhavefilledyourbeliefsystemwithbeliefsandconfirmatory
evidenceaboutlackandlimitationinyourlife,thenthatisallyourbeliefsystem(unconsciousmind)
canbringuptoyourconsciousmindeverysingleday.Itcannotbringupanythingelsethatisnotthere!Thisiswhytheinnerworkseemssodifficultinthebeginning.Wearetryingtoworkagainstthetideofallournegativethoughtswehaveaccumulatedinthepast!
Itiseasytoseethenatureofalltheunconsciousbeliefsyouhavefiledinyourlife.Justquiet
yourmindforamomentandseewhatthoughtsspontaneouslyarisewithoutattemptingtochangethem.Dothethoughtsthatspontaneouslyarisemakeyoufeelgoodorbad?Aretheypositiveornegativethoughts?Aretheythoughtsofworryorthoughtsofjoy?Thesethoughtsarenotemerginginyourconsciousnessbyaccidentorrandomchance.Rather,yourunconsciousmindisthrowingthesethoughtsuptoyourconsciousnessasaresultofyourpastconditioning,inanattempttomakeyoufeelsafe.Itisrehashingwhatyouhavealwaysknowntomakeyoufeelsecure.
Ifyoudotheexerciseaboveandfindthatyourconsciousnessisspontaneouslyfilledwith
positivethoughts,thenIamcertainthatmostthingsinyourphysicalrealityarepleasingtoyou.Youwillbeleadingagoodandcomfortablelife,andmanifestationsappearquicklyforyouinyourphysicalreality.However,ifnegativethoughtscrowdyourconsciousness,thenIamalsocertainthatyourouterrealityreflectsthesame.HowcanIbesosure?ThisisUniversallawandistheultimateproofofwhatIamtalkingabout.Proveittoyourself.
Fortunatelythough,allofthatcanbechanged.Ifthethoughtsinyourinnerworlddonotbring
youpeaceandjoyatthemoment,understandthatitistheunderlyingbeliefsthatarecausingthem.Onceyoulearnhowtodisconnecttheemotionalchargeofyourunderlyingbeliefs,thingswillresolvethemselvesaccordinglyontheoutside.
Chapter4-HowPhysicalManifestationsReallyHappen
Whydoindividualswholearnaboutthesespiritualtechniquesforthefirsttimefinditsodifficulttomanifesttheirdesires?Theanswerissimple.Theyareworkingagainstthecumulativeeffectofalltheirexistingbeliefsthathaveaccumulatedoverthepastfewdecades.Ifwecouldseetheamountofjunkwearehaulingaroundwithusallthetime,wewouldbeabsolutelysurprisedbytheenormityofitall!Nowondersomepeoplefeeltiredanddrainedallthetime.Ournegativethoughtsnotonlysapourenergyandcompeteforourattention,theymayalsoleadtounwantedphysicalailmentsdowntheroadiftheissueisleftunchecked.Fortunately,thereisaneasywaytoreverseallthisonceyouunderstandtheseuniversalprinciples.
Yourmindservesasaperfectfilingmechanism,dutifullyrecordingeverysinglepieceof
informationandeverynewinputreceivedduringyourwakingmoments.Allthesepiecesofinformationaregroupedandcategorizedaccordingtoyourbeliefs.Therefore,yourbeliefsprovideyouwithaframeworkthroughwhichyouorganizeyourthoughtsandmakesenseoftheworld.Withoutourbeliefstoholdeverythingtogether,wewouldnotbeabletoeasilyassimilatenewpiecesofinformationormakesenseoftheworldaroundus.Unfortunately,aconsequenceofthismechanismisthatitalsokeepsustrapped.
Whenthemindisleftbyitself,thoughtswillspontaneouslyariseinourconsciousnesswithout
ouractiveintervention.Noticehowyoudon’tevenhaveto“try”andthinkathought.Somehow,randomthoughtswilljustfloatintoyourconsciousness,callingoutforyourattention.Someofthesethoughtsmayberelatedtorecentorcurrentevents.Othersmaybefromeventsthathavelongpassed.Itisimportanttounderstandthatthesethoughtsdonotcomefromnowhere.Instead,theyoriginatefromthatunconscious/subconsciouspartofyourmindwhereallyourunconsciousbeliefsareheld.Thisisalsotheplacewhereallyourmemorieshaveaccumulatedovertimeandareorganizedaccordingtothestructureputinplacebyyourbeliefs.
Therewouldordinarilybenoproblemwiththesedistractingthoughtsappearinginour
consciousness.Someofuscallitmindchatterorthatinnervoicewithin.However,themainproblemisthatovertime,wehavecometobelieveinthesethoughtsandidentifystronglywiththem.Thismeansthatwehavecometoassociatewiththosethoughtsandseethemasapartofourtruebeing.Thisistheinitialpitfallmadebyeveryone—believinginourownmindchatter.
Istillremembermyexperienceswithlearningmeditation.DuringthefirstfewyearswhenI
triedtomeditate,mymindchatterwouldgoonandon,feedingmewithonethoughtandimageryafteranotherwhichIwouldchaselikeafoxdownarabbithole.IthoughtIwasmeditatingwheneverIclosedmyeyes,butallIwasdoingwasfollowingandgettingdistractedbythemindchatterwhichentertainedmewithsomeveryinterestingandvividimagery!ItwasasifIwaswatchingamovieinmymindwheneverImeditated.
Thisisalsothereasonwhysomeindividuals(especiallybeginningmeditators)wronglybelieve
thattheyarecommunicatingwithspiritorreceivingexternal“visions”whentheymeditate.Theyarenot.Itcanbedifficultforabeginnertodistinguishbetweenactualvisions(fromthedivine)andimaginedphenomenonproducedbytheiroverly-activeminds.Infact,Ihavefoundthatwhenabeginnerclaimstoseevisionsorreceivepiecesofinformationduringtheirmeditations,itisalmostalwaysduetotheirmindchatterandnotduetoanydivineintervention.Iwillcomebacktothispointingreaterdetaillater.
Anotherkeypointtonotehereisthattherearesomemeditationteachersandtraditionsthat
encouragestudentstotalkaboutandsharetheirvisionswiththeclass.Asaresult,somestudentsmaygointogreatdetaildescribingwhatthey“see”duringtheirmeditationpractice.Itisimportantonceagaintonotfallintothispitfallaswhatistypically“seen”duringmeditationbyabeginningstudentisnothingmorethanthefalseprojectionsofourunconsciousmind.Whenourmindisgivenfreereintothinkinwhateverdirectionitwants,itusuallycombinesvariouselementsandpiecesofunrelatedinformationfromourunconscioustogiveusseemingly“new”piecesofinformation.Thisinformationisnotfromthedivine.Instead,itisrehashedinformationthatwearefeedingtoourselves.Thesecondmistakeistobelieveinallthesevisionsseenduringmeditation.Whilethereisnothinginherentlybadaboutdoingso,anindividualcanspendaninordinateamountoftimechasingthesedelusionalthoughts,andevenbelievinginthepowerofthesedelusionalthoughtsovertheirlives.Thispathcanleadonefurtherandfurtherawayfromthespiritualfreedomthatweseek.
Evenwhenwearenotmeditatingandinourwakingstates,wehavecometobelieveinourmind
chatter.Whenourmindsthrowupanunwantedscenarioofsomething“bad”happening,weusuallyfeelworriedinresponsetothatthought.Whenourmindsthrowupthethoughtthat“Iamnotgoodenough”,mostindividualsbelieveinitwithoutquestionandallowthemselvestogetcarriedawaybythosenegativefeelings.Thefirststeptobecominganeffectivecreatorandmanifestorofyourownrealityistodisassociateyourselffromallthesethoughtsthatappearinyourconsciousness.Stopbelievinginthemandstopengaginginthem.Simplyobservethemforwhattheyare,asthoughtsarisingfromyourunconsciousstorehouseofmemoriesandgentlyletthemgo.Thismaybedifficulttodointhebeginning,butthevaluewillbeimmensethemoreyouengageinthispractice.
Somepeoplespendtheirwholelivesbelievingintheirownfalsethoughts.Doyounowseewhy
itcanbedifficultforanindividualtochangehisphysicalreality?Thecyclegoeslikethis:Ourembeddedbeliefsinourunconsciouscausesustoattractmorepeople,thingsandeventsthatmatchthosebeliefs.Whentheseeventshappen,weinterprettheminawaythatisconsistentwithourbeliefs,whichconfirmsanddeepensthemevenfurther.Thisleadstoanenormousunconsciousstorehouseofthoughtsandbeliefswhichoccupyourconsciousnessduringourwakinghours.Whenweaccepteverythingwhichourunconsciousthrowsupforusandbelieveinourmindchatter,wegoontoperpetuateexistingrealityevenfurther…Thiscyclerepeatsitselfallthroughourlivesuntilwefinallybecomeawareofit.
Theslowwaytoworkthroughallthiswouldbetoattempttofindeverysinglenegativebelief
wehave,andthenbegintheprocessofchangingitintosomethingpositive.Thisisthemethodwhichhasbeenadvocatedbysome.Thedownsideofthismethodisthatwehavesomanybeliefstodealwiththatgoingthroughallofthemmanuallyandchangingeachofthemtakesalongtime.Besides,manyofourbeliefsare“unconscious”andnotimmediatelyapparenttous.Wedonotevenknowthatwe

Itriedthefirstandsecondmethodswithverylittlesuccessduringthefirsttenyearsofmy
spiritualjourney.ReadersofmyotherbookswillknowthatItriedonemanifestationtechniqueafteranotherwithnoresults.Ialsoattemptedto“flood”bysubconsciouswithpositivebeliefsbywritingoutcarefully-wordedaffirmationsbyhandhundredsoftimesdaily!Allofthatledtolittleresultsforme,mainlybecauseIdidnotknowwhatIwasdealingwith.Backthen,IstilldidnothaveacompleteunderstandingofourbeliefsystemasIdotoday.Evenifwemanageto“flood”oursubconsciouswithpositivebeliefs,ourattemptswouldstillbepunycomparedtothemassofnegativeprogrammingandbeliefsthatwehaveunknowinglyaccumulatedoverourlifetimes.
TheanswerthatIeventuallyfound(thankstoseveralspiritualmastersandteachersalongthe
way)isthis—Stoptryingtodealwithyourindividualbeliefs.Stoptryingtoundothesocialconditioningthatyouhavereceived.Youaredoingthingsthehardwaybecausewhatyouaretryingtodoistoclearoutastorehousethatcontainsdecadesofaccumulatedmemoriesandbeliefs.Instead,thereisonlyonethingthatneedstobedone.Allyouneedtodoistobreakthelinkbetweenyourthoughtsandyourfeelings,andeverythingwillberestoredtonormal.

Thesecondcomponentinthechain(consciousthoughts)isliterallyimpossibletodealwith.
Therearemillionsofthoughtspassingthroughourconsciousawarenesseverydaythatitwouldbeimpossibletoartificially“control”and“change”themonebyone.Thisiswhyattemptsat“positivethinking”seldomwork.Weareattemptingtodotheimpossible,whichistocontrolthenatureofourmillionsofthoughts!
Thethirdcomponentinthechain(feelingsandemotions)arearesponsetoourspontaneous
consciousthoughts.Again,wecanattemptto“feel”happyorforceourselvestofeelhappy,butoureffortswillbeshort-livedifwestillallowourselvestobelieveinallourconsciousthoughts.
Aneasywayaroundallthisistosimplybreakthesecondlink:Thelinkbetweenourconscious
thoughtsandthefeelings/emotionswefeelasaresultofthosethoughts.IamgratefulforteacherslikeLesterLevensonfortheirpioneeringworkinthisareabecauseofitsimmenseeffectiveness.Whenyoubreakthelinkbetweenyourconsciousthoughtsandyourfeelings,youarenolongeratthemercyofyourunconsciousbeliefs.Thebeliefscanstillbethere.Thethoughtscanstillbethere.Butbecauseyouarenownolongeraffectedbyyourthoughtsandnolongerbelieveinthem,thebuckstopsthere.Thesebeliefsandthoughtsnolongergoontoaffectyouroutermanifestations.

Itallstartswithhavingagreaterawarenessoverwhattakesplaceontheinside.Mostbeginning
studentsofthismaterialhavelivedtheirwholeliveswithanouter-directedfocus.Theyareconstantlypreoccupiedwithwhathappensintheirouterworldthattheyveryseldomturninwardstolookatwhatisinside.Thisiswhyindividualscanbegrippedbyanirrationalsenseoffearwhentheytryaspiritualpracticesuchasmeditationfortheveryfirsttime.Meditationrequiresthatweadoptaninwardfocusandtakealookatwhatishappeninginourinnerworld.Itrequiresthatwewithdrawourattention,atleastmomentarily,fromouterreality.
Inasimilarvein,manifestationisaninnerexercise.Ihaveoftentaughtthatourinnerstates
dictatetheeffectivenessofouroutermanifestationsandyouwillobservethistobetrueonceyoustartputtingthesetechniquesintopractice.Mostpeoplewhohavebeenlivingunconsciouslyalltheirliveshavenoideahowtumultuoustheirinnerstatesare!Theirinnerstates(thethoughtswhichtheyarethinkautomaticallyandbydefaultmostofthetime)aremakingthemfeeluncomfortablewithoutthemevenknowingit!Therefore,theveryfirststeptoreversingthisnegativecycleistogentlyturninwardsandnoticewhatishappeningontheinside.
Youcandothisbyclosingyoureyesandsittingquietlybyyourselfinacomfortablespotwhere
youwillnotbeinterrupted.Atfirst,allwillseemtobeblackanddark.Butnoticethethoughtsthatfloatpassyourconsciousness.Noticethethoughtsthatarisespontaneously.Withoutlabelingorjudgingyourthoughts,justnoticehowtheymakeyoufeel.Dothesespontaneousthoughtsmakeyoufeelgood?Dotheymakeyoufeellightandhappy,ordotheymakeyoufeelnegativeandworried?Thewayyoufeelspontaneouslyisthedominantvibrationofyourinnerstate.Thisdominantvibrationthengoesontoattractandcreateyourouterreality.
Oneinsightyou’llgainfromthisexerciseisthatthedominantvibrationwhichyouholdontheinsidewillcloselyapproximateyourouterreality.Ifyoufeelthatyourinnervibration(feelingstate)hasaslightlynegativeovertonetoit,thenyourouterrealitywillalsohavepartsandportionswhichyouconsidertobeslightlynegative.Similarly,ifyoufeelasenseofspontaneousjoyandhappinesswhenyoudothisexercise,thenIamcertainthatyourouterrealityisoneofhappymanifestations,fulfillmentandjoy.Yourouterrealityalwaysmatchesyourinnerstate.
Thepurposeofthisexerciseisnottochangeanything.Itistomakeyounoticeandrealize,quite
possiblyforthefirsttimeinyourlife,thatyouarethecreatorofyourownreality.Untilyoustoppedtodothisexercise,youwouldhavelivedlifebydefault.Youmighthavebelievedinluckorchance,andthatthingshappenedtoyourandomlyinfluencedbyfactorsbeyondyourcontrol.However,anindividualwhodoesthisexerciseimmediatelyrealizesthatheisthecreatorofhisownreality.Hecannowclearlyseethedirectcorrelationbetweenhisdominantinnerstateandouterreality,whichisthelinkbetween(3)and(4)wehaveoutlinedabove.
Thelinkbetweenourinnerstateandouterrealityisnotourwork.Itisthenatureandworkof
ourUniverse.Ourworkistotendtoourinnerstatesandtoensurethatweareimmersedinfeelingsofpeace,joyandfulfillmentmostofthetime.Whenwedothis,theUniversedoesitspartbyfillingourexternalworldwithpeopleandeventsofasimilarnature.Whenourinnerstateisfilledwithangryordepressedthoughts,ourouterrealityreflectsthesame.
Mostpeopleareatthemercyoftheiraccumulatednegativeconditioningandthoughts.This
causestheirinnerstatestobefilledwithworryandfearthoughtswithoutthemrealizingit.Anindividualwhoisinastateofdepressionwillbeconstantlythinkingnegativeworrythoughts.Hethinksthatthesethoughtsarebeyondhiscontrol,andthattheyarisespontaneouslyinhisconsciousnesswheninfact…thesethoughtsaretheresultofcumulativepastconditioningandbeliefs.
Thereinliesthesolutiontobreakthechain,ortodisconnectyourselffromthethoughtsthatrun
throughyourconsciousnessallday.Itisasimplemethod.SosimpleinfactthatI’mafraidyouwilldismissitatfirstglance.ButitisakeypartofthisentiremanifestationsequenceI’mtalkingabout,sostickwithmeforamoment.
Forthefirstfewyearsofmyspiritualjourney,Ihadlimitedsuccesswithmanifestinganything
usingthevariousmanifestationtechniquesandmethodsthatItried.Thereasonforthiswasbecausemyinnerstatewasfilledwithlotsofworryandfearthoughts.ThesethoughtsarosespontaneouslyinmyownconsciousnessanditseemedIhadnocontroloverthem.WhileIdidnotknowitthen,thesethoughtswerecausedbymyownunderlyingbeliefsandprogrammingaccumulatedoveralifetime.
WhenItriedtoapplythemanifestationtechniquestaught,forexampleto“feelasifmy
manifestationshavealreadyhappened”,thistechniquewasmetwithlimitedsuccessbecausemyconsciousnesswasoverwhelmedbythenegativethoughtsthatwerepresent.Inotherwords,Iwastryingtoaddmygoodfeelingsintoavibrationalstatethatwasoverwhelminglynegative!LittlewonderthatthingsdidnotworksincetheUniversealwayspicksuponthesumtotalofourthoughtsandfeelings.
ThefirststepintheLightTouchManifestationsequenceistoreturnyourinnerstatebacktooneofpeaceandnothingness.Whenyoureturnyourinnerstatebacktozero,astateinwhichyoufeelneitherpositivenornegativethoughts…thisisthestatewheremiracleshappen.Thisisthezerostatewhereyourconsciousnessisclear,fromwhichyoucanfinallyreceivesignalsandinputs(inspiration)fromthedivine.Evenifyoudidnothingatallandjustremainedinthiszerostatefortherestofyourlife,everythingwillstillbedoneuntoyou.Thisisacounter-intuitiveaspectofthesespiritualteachingsthatisdifficulttograspunlessyoupersonallyexperienceitforyourself.Anditispossibletoexperiencethisstateforyourselfwithjustalittlefocusandpractice.
ThisiswhatthegreatspiritualmasterLaoTzumeantwhenhewrote,“Thegreatmasterthatis
theTaodoesnothingandleavesnothingundone.”OnecanjustaseasilysubstitutetheTaofortheUniverse,SpiritortheDivine.WhatLaoTzuwastryingtoconveyisthatifonetendstohisowninnerstateandremainsinthestateofnothingnessandpurebeingness,thenonedoesnotneedtodoanything.Effortisnolongernecessary.Onenolongerneedstoexertanyeffortandthingswillstilloccurspontaneouslyinhisexternalreality.HewillbesweptalongbythebeautifulflowoftheUniverseandbecomeawonderfulobserverinalloflife.Thisdoesnotmeanthatanindividualbecomeslifelessandnottakeanyphysicalactionatall.Itsimplymeansthatifandwhenthereisphysicalactiontobetaken,hewillreceivesuchaclearimpulseandsignaltotakeitthatallpathswillbeopenedforhimtodoso.Takingactionwillthenseemlikethemostnaturalthingtodointheworld,foritspringsfromUniversalimpulse!
Thefirststeptoachievingthisstateistostopbelievinginthethoughtsthatarisespontaneously
inyourconsciousnessalldaylong.Youdonothavetoforcethethoughtstogoawayorreplacethemwithpositiveones.Thatwouldbedoingitthehardway.Instead,allyouhavetodoistostopbelievingormentallyengaginginthethoughtsthatcropupforyou!Ifyou’llonlytakethisfirststepinthemanifestationsequence,you’llfindyourlifedrasticallychangingforthebetter.Maybeyouhavealreadytakenthisdirectionasaresultofreadingmyotherbooks,inwhichcaseyou’rewellonyourway.
Wheneverafearthoughtcropsupforyouthatcausesyoutofeelcorrespondingemotionsof
fear,orwheneverworryingthoughtscropupforyou…youmusthavetheinitialfocusanddisciplinetoletthemgoatoncewithoutbelievinginthem.Dropthemgently.Understandthatthereisnotruthorbasistothosethoughtsotherthanthemeaningyouhavegiventhembasedonyourbeliefs.
Hereareafewexamplesofthoughtsarisingspontaneouslyinourconsciousnesssoyoucansee
howpervasiveandpersistentouregois.Supposeyouareinteractingwithaco-workerandyousuddenlygetthenotionthat“Shedoes
notlikeme”.Thatisathoughtwhicharosespontaneouslyfromyourunconscious,possiblysupportedbyoneormorerelatedbeliefsintheareaofinterpersonalrelationshipsandself-worth.Ifyouchoosetobelieveinthatthoughtandengageinit,thentheresultingtrainofthoughtscanonlygetmoreandmorenegative,resultinginanextremelynegativeinnerstatecausedbythatsingleoriginatingthought.Forexample,theinitialthoughtof“shedoesnotlikeme”maygeneralizeto“noonelikesme”,andotherequallydepressingthoughtssuchas“noonehaseverlikedme”,“noonewantstobemyfriend”,“Ihavenofriends,onlypeoplewhotakeadvantageofme”…andsoon.Understandthat
allthesethoughtshaveno“truth”inthem,apartfromyourownbeliefinthem.Whentheinitialnegativethoughtarises,thefirststepistoletitgogentlyfromyour
consciousness.Checkwithintoseeifthereareanynegativefeelingsresultingfromthatinitialthought.Youmayfeelaslightsenseofdiscomfortoruneasiness.Ifso,letthatfeelingofdiscomfortoruneasinessgoatonce.ItiseasiertodealwithafeelinginitsinitialstagesthanwithastrongerfeelingthathasbeenaddeduntobytheLawofAttraction.
Itishelpfultotakeadeepbreathandfeelthatenergyleavingyourbody.Dothisasmanytimes
untilyouhavefeelthefeelingleaveyourbody,untilyourinnerstateisrestoredtooneofpeaceandease.Inthebeginning,itmaybenecessarytodothisletting-goprocessseveraltimesuntilthefeelingsarecompletelygonefromyourconsciousness.Overtime,you’llrealizethatfeelingscanbeletgoofinaninstant…justlikethat!
Irecommendthatyoutrythisfirststepofrestoringyourinnerstatetozerooverthenextweek
orso.Forgetaboutmanifestationsandeverythingyouhavelearneduptothispoint.Instead,focusongettingyourinnerstatecenteredonloveandpeace.Focusondroppingyournegativefeelingsthemomentyoufeelthem,andgentlylettheintrusivethoughtsgofromyourconsciousnessonceyouhavethem.Don’tevenblameyourselfforthemortrytofindwherethesethoughtscamefrom.Don’tengageinthem.Instead,gentlyletyourintrusivethoughtsgoeachtimetheyarise.Dothiseverywakingmoment.Makeityourpriority.
Itwillbedifficultinthebeginning,butthemoreyoudoit,themoreyourealizethatyoucan
easilybefreefromthethousandsofthoughtsthatpassthroughyourmindeveryhour…justlikethat.Youarenolongersubjecttotheirnegativeinfluences,andtheynolongercarryanyemotionalchargeoveryou.Whileyoumaystillthinkthesamethoughts,theynolongeraffectyourinneremotionalstates.Overtime,you’llfindthesethoughtscroppinguplessandlessforyou,untilyoueventuallyreachapointwherethey’lljuststoppresentingthemselvestoyou.
Chapter6-DealingWithMajorRecurringLifeThemes
Restoringyourinnerstatetooneoflove,peaceandnothingnessisthekeytoeffectivemanifestations.Ithasalsobeenthefocusofmyprevioussixteenbooks,inwhichItalkaboutvariouswaystotendtoyourinnerstateandreturnittothatstateofzerofromwhichweareonceagainfreetocreate.
Imustremindthereaderherethatunlessyoutaketheinitialeffortnecessarytoreturnyour
innerstatetooneofpeaceandlove…nothingthatyoureadfromthispointwillworkeffectivelyforyou.Iknowthisfrommyownexperience.Youcannothavethesemanifestationtechniquesworkforyouwhilesimultaneouslyholdingontoworryorfearthoughts.Yourconsciousnesscannotbecloudedwithnegativethoughtsmostofthetimeifyouwanttobeaneffectivemanifestor.Thisdoesnotmeanthatyoudonotexperienceanynegativefeelingsatall.Itsimplymeansthatyoudropyournegativefeelingsthemomentyourealizetheyarethere,andabsolutelyrefusetoimmerseyourselfinthemforextendedperiodsoftime.Ifyou’lljustkeeptothesebasicrules,thenyouroutermanifestationshavetoappearforyouquickly.
OnequestionIoftenaskisthis:Wouldyourathermanifestyourdeepestdesiresorwouldyou
ratherholdontoyournegativefeelings?Forme,IwouldratherreceivemygoodandeverythingIhaveaskedforratherthansuffertheadverseeffectsofholdingontothosenegativefeelings.Apersonwhoallowshimselftoholdontonegativefeelingsispenalizinghimselftwice,firstintermsofhowmiserablehefeelswhenexperiencingthosefeelings,andsecondintermsofhisdelayedmanifestations!Therefore,itisneverworthittoholdontoanynegativefeelingsatallinyourlife!Letallofthemgoatonce,nomatterhow“justified”youfeelaboutthematter.
Acommonexampleofhowwetendtoholdontonegativefeelingscanbefoundintheareaof
interpersonalrelationships.Supposethatyouhadaquarrelwithyourpartnerandfeltangeredbysomethinghe/shesaidintheheatofthemoment.Mostpeopleholdontothisangerfordaysorweeks,refusingtospeaktotheotherparty!Butwhy?InallofthequarrelsI’vehadinthepast,Ialwaysreconciledwiththeotherpersonsoonerorlater.Theonlydifferencewashowlongittookforustobespeakingagain.Therefore,ifweknowwiththebenefitofhindsightthatwe’regoingtoputthatunpleasantencounterbehindussoonerorlaterandbefriendsagain…whynotdoitnow?Whynotskipallthatunnecessarypartinthemiddle?Thereisnothinggoodtobegainedfromplayingthesilentgameanyway.Whynotdropthoseunpleasantfeelingsandrecoverfromthemnow?Onceyourealizehowsillyitistoplaythegameof“Idon’tfeellikespeakingtoyou”,youstartdroppingyournegativeemotionsfasterthanbefore.Holdingontothemisoptional.
Acommonobjectionis,“IwanttoholdontomyangersoIwon’tfeellikespeakingtohim.I
don’twanttoappeartogiveinbymakingthefirstmove.”Doesthissoundfamiliar?Again,that’ssuchafoolishgametoplay!Wouldyouratherreceiveyourgoodandallyourdesiredmanifestations,orwouldyouratherstewinyourfeelingsofangersoasto“teachtheotherpartyalesson”?Youareteachingnooneelsealessonbutyourself!Holdingontoyournegativefeelingsdoesnotaffectthe
otherpersoninanyway,butitdoeshavethetangibleeffectofdelayingyourpositivemanifestationsinlife.Iftheotherpersondoesnotfeellikepatchinguporspeakingtoyou,thensobeit.Makepeacewiththesituationandbeatonewithit.Dropallyourfeelingsofanger,resentmentorblameandlettheotherpersonbeashelikes,whileyoutendtoyourowninnerstate.
Onceyouunderstandthisprinciple,youseewhyitnevermakesanysensetoholdontofeelings
ofanger,fear,jealously,resentment,frustrationorirritationaboutanotherperson…nomatterhowjustifiedyoumaybe!TheUniversedoesnotcareabouthow“right”youare.Allitcaresaboutisthewayyoufeelineachmoment.Thewayyoufeelineachmomentiscreatingimprintsandimpressionsontheenergeticfieldaroundyou,whichwillsubsequentlyattractpeopleandeventsofsimilarnature(vibrations)intoyourreality.Supposeyoufeeljealousuponseeingtheachievementsofanotherperson.Themoreyoustewinthosefeelingsofjealouslyandthinkabouthowunfairtheworldis,themoreyoudrawtoyourselfreasonsandexperiencestofeelthatway!Rememberthe“attraction”and“confirmation”roleofourbeliefs?Soon,you’llfindyourouterrealityfilledwithmanyexamplesofinjusticeandthingsforyoutobejealousabout.ThisisUniversalLaw.Italwaysgivesyoumoreofwhatyoufeelandfocusupon.

Rememberthatthemindisneverabletogiveyouananswerthatisdifferentfromwhatit
knows.Allthemindcandrawonisitscollectivestorehouseofmemoriesandbeliefs.Therefore,ifyouaskyourmindanopen-endedquestionsuchas,“WhydoIalwaysfeelsolousy?”,itcanonlygiveyouananswersupportedbyyourownmemoriesandbeliefs.Ifyourunconsciousisfilledwithself-defeatingbeliefs,thenyourmindwouldmostlikelyrespondwith,“Ohthat’sbecauseyou’realoserandcannevergetanythingright!”
Isthisresponsegivenbyyourmindtheabsolutetruth?Nope.Butitistheonlyresponseit
knows.Itistheonlyresponseyourmindcangiveasaresultofyoursubconsciousprogrammingandbeliefs.Therefore,tryingtoask“why”somethinghappenedor“why”youarethinkinginaparticularwayisunlikelytoleadtoproductiveoutcomes.You’rejustfallingintothetrapoftheegomindandbelievingfurtherinthosebaselessthoughtsthatareofferedtoyou.Youreclaimyourpowerthemomentyoulearntoseethosethoughtsforwhattheyare(asrehashedmemories)andignorethem.
Thisiswhyitisimportanttotakealighttouchwhensolvingtheperceived“problems”and
“issues”inyourlife.Ifyoutakeaheavy-handedapproach,yousolidifyandembedtheissueevenmorefirmlyinyourunconscious.Letusfirstexplorehowthisworksinrelationtoanaddiction.Whenyouseehowthisappliesinonecase,you’llbeabletogeneralizetheprinciplestootherareasinyourownlife.
Itdoesnotmatterwhatanindividualisaddictedto.Itcanbeanunhealthysubstanceoran
unhealthybehaviorsuchasover-eating.Often,theindividualsinvolveddonotthinktheyhavean
issueanddonotseetheirbehaviortobetheissue.Theseindividualsarestillunconsciousabouttheissuebecausetheyhavecometoassociatesostronglywiththeirbehaviorsandthoughtsovertime.
Agoodexampleofthisisanaddictiontoworrying.Iwasaddictedtoworryingforafew
decadeswithoutevenrealizingIhadthisunhealthyaddictioninmylife!TheaddictivebehaviorfeltsonaturaltomebecauseIhadcometoperceivethoseworriedfeelingsasnormal.OneindividualImethadanaddictiontospreadingvilegossipandtalkingmaliciouslybehindotherpeople’sbacks.Hisownbehaviorseemedperfectlynormaltohimandheneveroncequestionedhowitaffectedhisownreality.
Whiletheremaybesomeaddictionsweareunconsciousabout,thereareotherswemaybe
awareof.Usually,thesearetheaddictionsforwhichthedownsideshavebecomeacutelyapparenttous.IdidnotseemyworryingasanissuepreviouslybecauseIdidnotseeallthenegativedownsidesofworrying.Similarly,theindividualwhospreadsmaliciousgossipdoesnotseetheill-effectsoftalkingbadbehindotherpeople’sbacks.Tohim,everythingisjustharmlessgossip.ButonceyouunderstandtheseUniversalprinciples,yourealizehowalloftheseself-defeatingbehaviorsleadtounwantedfeelingswhichcangoontoaffectyouroutermanifestations.
Thebasisofanyaddictionisanaddictiontoaparticularfeeling.Onceagain,itdoesnotmatter
whatyouareaddictedtoonthesurface.Thebehaviororsubstanceonthesurfacedoesnotmatter.Itistheunderlyingfeelingsweareinterestedinhere.Allformsofaddictivebehaviorresultinapay-offwhichcomesintheformoffeelings.Althoughthesefeelingsmayoftenfeelunpleasanttous,westillbecome“addicted”totheminaperversewayastheyarefamiliartousandarethefeelingswehavecometoassociatewithdeeply.
Anindividualwhoisaddictedtosexualbehavioroutsideofmarriage(oranykindofseemingly
“deviant”behavior)maybeaddictedtothefeelingsof“guilt”or“guiltypleasure”hegets.Anindividualaddictedtogossipingbehindotherpeople’sbacksisaddictedtothefeelingsof“indignation”,“injustice”or“self-righteousness”.Anindividualwholikestoover-eatmaybeaddictedtothehappyfeelingshegetsfromconsuminglargeamountsoffood.Thephysicalactitselfisseldomwheretheissuelies.Rather,itistheunderlyingfeelingsthathavetobeaddressed.Thephysicalactionsarejustabridgeusedtogettothosefeelingswhichwecrave.Inthecaseofsubstanceaddictions,thesubstancesingestedmayhelptocreate,reinforceorenhancethosefeelingsfelt.
Thinkaboutyourownlifeforamomentandseeifthereareanyaddictivebehaviorsthathave
becomearecurringthemeforyou.Thesecanbeinnocuousbehaviorssuchasconstantworrying,gossiping,complainingorjealousyoverotherpeople’sachievements.Whatmostpeopledoistoblamethemselvesfortheiraddictivebehaviorswithoutseeingtheunderlyingtruth.Theunderlyingtruthisthattheyarenotaddictedtotheactionorsubstanceitself.Rather,theyhavebecomeaddictedtotheunderlyingfeelingsderivedfromtheaddictivebehavior.Eachtimetheyrepeatthoseactions,theyaccessthatstateoffeelingsthathavebecomesofamiliarandpleasurabletothem.
Takesometimetolistdownthefeelingsyouhavebecomeaddictedtoinyourownlife.Youdo
nothavetosharethislistwithanyoneelsesofeelfreetobehonestwithyourself.Youdonothavetodescribetheaddictivebehavioronpapereither.Allwearegoingforarethefeelingsbehindthat
addiction.Sometimes,itisnecessarytoinventyourownwordsandphrasestodescribetheunderlyingfeelings(e.g.the“IwanttohaveitbutIcan’t”feeling,the“I’mworriedbutIdonotknowwhatIamworriedabout”feeling,the“guiltypleasurefromdoingsomethingtaboo”feeling).
Doingthisexerciseisaneye-openerformany.Ifyoutakethetimetotrythisexerciseoutfor
yourself,you’llrealizethatthefeelingsyouhavelistedformrecurringthemesinyourowngenerallifeexperience.
Supposethat“guilt”hasbeenlistedasoneoftheunderlyingfeelingsbehindyouraddiction.
Whatyou’lllikelyfindisthefeelingof“guilt”resurfacingitselfinseveralotheraspectsofyourlife,notjustfromtheaddictivebehavioritself.Forexample,youmayhaveatendencytofeelguiltyaboutthings,oryoumayfrequentlyattractsituationswhichmakeyoufeelguilty.Inotherwords,weliterallyattractsituationswhichgiveussimilarfeelings.“Shame”wasoneofthefeelingsIidentifiedwith.Iwassurprisedtofindthatnotonlywasthefeelingofshameassociatedwithmyaddiction,itwasalsoacommonthemeinmyownlifebackthen!IfrequentlyfeltasenseofshameandinferioritywhenIinteractedwithothers.Doingthisexerciseallowedmetobringthosenegativefeelingstolightanddropthem.WhenIdidso,theaddictionsresolvedthemselvesontheoutsideaswell.
Thegreatestvalueofthisexerciseisthatitallowsustoidentifythemajorfeelingsandthemes

Thesemajorthemesformthethirdcomponentofthechain.Ifleftunconsciousandunchecked,
theywillgoontoattractoutercircumstancesandresultinourphysicalmanifestations.Addictivebehaviorsarecausedbythelinkbetween(3)and(4),inwhichouraddictiontoparticularfeelings(3)causesustoengageincertainactions(4)inordertoexperiencethosefeelings…thusstrengtheningouraddictionevenmore.Therootcauseofouraddictionsisinourunconsciousmemoriesandbeliefs(1),butdealingwithaddictionsatthislevelisseldomeffectivebecausethesebeliefshavebecomesopervasiveandrootedinourunconscious.Instead,adifferentapproachisneededinthebeginning.
Nowthatyouhaveidentifiedthefeelingswhichyoumaybeaddictedto,itistimetopracticethe
sametechniqueasbefore.Wedealwithaddictiontofeelingsintheexactsamewayaswedealwithnegativefeelings…bysimplylettingthemgo.
Eachtimeyoufeelanurgetoengageinanaddictivebehavior,simplyaskyourselfwhetheryou
canletthatfeelingorurgego.Rememberthattheurgeisnothingmorethanafeelinginyourbodywhichyouhavecometoidentifysocloselywith.Youmayseeitasacompulsionorimpulsetodosomething,butthatinitselfisalsoafeeling.Itisafeelingtoengageinthataddictivebehavior!Therefore,eachtimeyoufeellikeengaginginyouraddiction,allowyourselftostopandpauseforjustamoment.
Inthepast,youwouldhavefelttheurge/compulsionandwentaheadtoengageintheaddictive
behaviorimmediately.ButwhatIsuggesthereistocreateasmallspace,alittlegapbetweenhavingthatcompulsionwithinyourselfandengaginginthebehaviorontheoutside.Duringthosefewsecondsorminutes,turninwardsandnoticehowyoufeelontheinside.Feelthisurgeorcompulsionstronglyandnoticehowitisjustanotherfeelingtoyou.Youmayhavethoughtthiswassomethingbeyondyourphysicalcontrol,butthisurgeisnothingmorethanafeelingyoucandrop,justlikeanyotherfeelingyouexperience.
Takeadeepbreathwhilenoticingthiscompulsioninyourbody.Youcandothisexerciseeach
timetheurgearises,sotrythesestepsthenexttimeyoufeeltheurgetoengageinyouraddiction.Askyourselfifyoucanletthiscompulsion(compulsivefeeling)go.Itdoesnotmatterwhat
youransweris,andwhateveransweryougivewillresultinyou“lettinggo”ofsomeofthatfeeling.ThisisbasedonthereleasetechniqueIhavelearnedfromtheSedonaMethod,forwhichIhavefoundtobethemosteffectiveinlettinggoofunwantedfeelingsfromourbody.Rememberthatthesefeelingsarenotapartofourtruenature.Theyaremerelyaddedunto(andthereforecloud)ourconsciousness.
Thenextquestiontoaskiswhenyoucanletthecompulsivefeelinggo.You’llrecognizethat
youcanletgoofthecompulsivefeelingrightnow,andthatthereisnoneedtoholdontoitforanylonger.Asyourealizethatyoucanletgoofthisurgerightnow,breatheoutslowly.Itmaybenecessarytorepeatthisprocessseveraltimesuntilyoureleasethefeeling(urge)fromyourbody.

aboutanotherperson.Inthepast,youwouldjusthaveengagedintheaddictivebehaviorstraightaway.Butnow,withthisnewawarenesswithinyourself,youallowyourselftofeelthis“urgetogossip”fullywithoutfightingit.
Noticehowthisurgefeelslikeinyourbody.Noticehowintensethefeelingis.Next,ask

Wehavejustspentthefirsthalfofthisbooktalkingaboutwaystoreturnyourinnerstatetozero.Thezerostateisthestartingpointofallmanifestations.Justasanartistalwayscreatesanewpieceofartwithafresh,blankcanvas…westartourmanifestationprocessfromafreshstate,untaintedbynegativefears,worries,expectationsorpastdisappointments.Attemptingtomanifestinspiteofthesenegativefeelingswillbeliketryingtocreateanewartpieceonausedcanvas.You’llbeabletopaintnewstuffonthere,butwhatyoudrawwillbeobscuredbytheinkthatisalreadyonthepaper.Youwillneverbeabletohavethefinalpaintingturnoutaspicturedinyourmind’seye.Youwillbeundertheinfluenceofeverythingthathasalreadybeendrawnonthepaper.
Mostmanifestationstudiesneglectthisfirsthalfoftheprocesswhichissocruciallyimportant.
Itisofutmostimportancethatyoualwaysstartyourmanifestationsfromazerostate.Thisisastateoflove,peaceandnon-resistanceontheinside.Ifyouarenotyetinastateofnon-resistance,thismeansthatyouarenotinastatethatisconducivetoyourmanifestations.Attemptinganytechniquesfromthispointwillonlybeawasteofyourtimeandeffort.
Doyounowseewhysomanypeoplefailatusingthesemanifestationtechniques?Itisnot
becausethetechniquesdonotwork,butbecausemostpeoplehaveanincompleteunderstandingofthewholemanifestationprocess.Tothem,themanifestationprocessiswhatthey“do”tomakethingshappenontheoutside.Itistheactualactofdrawingandpaintingonthecanvas.Buttheydonotrealizethatthepreparationofthecanvasisequally(ifnotmore)important.Thecanvas(consciousness)whichyoucreatefromhastobefreefromtheinterferenceandencumbrancesofyourpastthoughts,addictions,negativebeliefs,othereventsandworries.
Gettingtothestateofablankcanvastakesacertainamountoftimeandeffortwhichmostare
notpreparedtospend.Theyjustwanttogettotheirmanifestationsrightaway!Butpleaseunderstandthatifyoutookthetimetopracticethetechniquesinthepreviouschaptersandreturnyourinnerstatetozero…yourmanifestationswouldhappenevenwithouttryinganyofthetechniquesinthenexthalfofthisbook.Miraclesandmanifestationswouldthenhappenspontaneouslyforyou.

Thegoodthingaboutthispracticeofclearingyourcanvasisthatyoucandoitallthetime!You
spendsixteenwakinghourswithyourselfeverysingleday,andallofthosesixteenhourscanbeusedtodropnegativefeelingsfromyourconsciousness.
Rememberthemanifestationsequencewhichwediscussedearlier?Wearenotinterestedin
droppingtheindividualthoughtsfromourconsciousnessorerasingthebeliefs.Thatwouldbetoomuchforustodealwithatonce.Instead,allwearedoingwhenwe“letgo”istodisconnectthepowerthosethoughtshaveonourinnerfeelingstate.Ifyou’lltakeafewhourstodothiseveryday(whileyouareengagedinotheractivities),youwouldhavemadeconsiderableprogresseveninasingleday!

twohoursintoatimewhenIturninwardsandrestoremyinnerstatetooneofloveandpeace.Thosetwohourshavereapedtremendousrewardsforme.Ialsoletgoofanynegativefeelingsthatarisespontaneouslyduringtheday,thereandthen.NooneknowsthatI’mjustquietlylettinggoofresistanceontheinside.
Youmaythinkthat“lettinggo”isonlyamentalexerciseandthatnothingtangiblehappenson
theoutside.Thiscannotbefurtherfromthetruthbecauseasexplainedearlier,ourfeelingsgoontocreateandaffectouroutermanifestations.Whenyoudonot“letgo”ofunwantedfeelingsontheinsideandallowyourselftoholdontothemintensely,thesearethefeelingsthatwillgoontocreateunwanted,undesiredmanifestationinyourouterworldwhichyouthenhavetoundophysically.Therefore,itisofutmostimportancetostopyourunwantedfuturemanifestationsatthelevelofyourfeelingsinsteadofataphysicallevel.

Therearesomemanifestationteachingsthataskyoutoconjureupandfloodyourselfwith
positivefeelingsthataresointense,theyoverwhelmanyofthenegativefeelingsyoufeelontheinside.Butthosefeelingsarestillthere.Youjustcannotfeeltheminthemoment.Itisofgreatervaluetoacknowledgeandletthosenegativefeelingsgoratherthantodistractyourselfwiththoseconjuredpositivefeelings.
Supposethatyoufeelasenseofuneasinessontheinside.Gentlyplaceyourawarenessonthis
senseofuneasiness.You’llbecomemoreawareofthissenseofuneasiness,andatthesametimesilentlyaskyourselfwhereorwhatthisfeelingisfrom.Onceagain,donotstraintogetananswerorallowyourmindtothrowupdifferentlogicalpossibilities.Thisisnotanacademicreasoningexercisehere.Wearenottryingtothrowuppossiblereasonsasto“why”wearefeelingthisway.Rather,wearegoingforthatsenseofinnerknowing.
Youwillrealizewhenyouaskgentlythatyoucanimmediatelytellwherethatsenseof
uneasinessisfrom.Itcaneitherbeduetoaspecificeventthatisoccurringinyourlifeorfromageneralsenseofworryaboutsomething.Ineithercase,yourmindwillrevealtoyoutheinformationyouneedtoknowperfectly.Afterall,itisthemindthatiscausingyoutofeelthissenseofworry.Sometimes,themindwillletyouknowitisworriedaboutnothinginparticular,andthatitisjustageneralsenseofworry.That’sapossibilityaswellsinceouregomindshavebeenconditionedtokeepussafebyworryingaboutthefuture.

Oncertainoccasions,Ihavefoundmynegativefeelingstobeageneralsenseofworryabout
thefuture.Inthatcase,Iwouldidentifyitas“thisgeneralworryaboutthefuture”.Yourquestionwouldthenbe:“CanIletgoofthisgeneralworryaboutthefuture?”andsoon.Donotrushthroughthisinitialstageasitisimportanttogetyourinnerstatedowntozerobeforeproceeding.
Thesesubtlenegativefeelingswhichyoudetectinyourinnerstatearecommonlyreferredtoby
Abraham-Hicksas“resistance”inourphysicalvibrations.Sometimesthisresistancecanbeverysubtle,inwhichtheypresentthemselvesasslight,lingeringfeelingsofuneasinessordiscordthatwebarelynotice.Atothertimes,theseresistantfeelingsaremoreobviousintheformofnegativethoughtsrunningthroughourheads.Itisimportanttoletgoofanyresistanceoncewedetectthem.Ifthisresistanceisallowedtolingerinourconsciousness,theywillgoontoaffectourphysicalmanifestationsandmayevenresultinvariousphysicalailments.
Themostmagicalthinghappensonceyoupinpointandletgoofallthelingeringfeelingsin
yourinnerstate.Whenyourconsciousnessisclearandpristine,youimmediatelyfeelaninnersenseofspontaneouswell-beingandjoy.It’sthefeelingthateverythingiswell,andthateverythingissowonderfullyperfectinthemoment.Withyoureyesstillclosed,baskinthesewonderfulfeelingsofwarmthandhappiness.
Ioftenfeelthisasanintenseyetgentlefeelingofjoyandexcitementwellingupinsideofme,
withgoosebumpsbreakingoutallovermybody.Whenyoureturnyourinnerstatetooneofzero,uncloudedbynegativefeelings,youstarttoperceiveyourworldfromtheperspectiveoftheUniverse.
Thisisastateofpurebeingness—beingthemagnificentbeingthatyouaresupposedtobe
withouttherestrictionsimposedbyyournegativelimitingbeliefs.Thisisanunlimitedstatewhereyouarenotrestrictedbyanyofyournegativethoughtsandbeliefsfromthepast.
Anaturalconsequenceofbeinginthisstateisthatitisanextremelymanifestativestate,onein
whichyourintentionsanddesiresbecomephysicallymanifestveryquickly.Butyouhavetofirstmaketheefforttogetthere,andtheUniversewilltakecareoftherest.

Thisistheblankcanvaswhichwewillbecreatingfrom.Allofourcreationsandmanifestations
startfromanintention.AsI’vedescribedinmybook“DollarsFlowToMeEasily”,theUniversekeepsperfectrecordsofourintentionsanddesires.Thus,thereisnoneedtorepeatourintentionsover-and-overagaintotheUniverseinthehopethatwewill“sendaclearsignal”.Therearenosignalstosend,simplybecausetheUniversekeepsperfectandpreciserecordsofallourintentionsanddesires…waitingtodeliverthemtousattheprecisemoment.
Whenourcanvasisnotblank,wearecreatingunconsciously.Whatwecreateunconsciouslyis
oftennegative,aswewillcreateinlinewiththefear/worrisomethoughtsthatappearspontaneously
inourawareness.Whenourcanvasisblankandwhenweareinazerostate,wearealsocreatingunconsciously…
butpositivelysoasweareinalightstateofjoyandpeace.Juststayinginthisstatealonewillresolvelotsof“problems”and“issues”inourlife.Juststayinginthisnon-resistantstatewillcauselotsofthethingswhichwehavepreviouslyaskedfortocometrueforus.OurdesireshavealreadybeenpickedupbytheUniverse…andnowistheperfecttimeinwhichtheUniversecanfinallydeliverittous.
However,beginningstudentsofthismaterialtendtowantsomethingmore.Theytendtohave
specificintentionsordesireswhichtheywanttofulfillusingthismethod.You’llfindthatwhilethisisnecessaryinthebeginning,theneedforusingsuchpointedtechniquesgraduallyfadeawayafterawhile.WhenIfirststartedapplyingthesemanifestationtechniquesintomyownlife,Ifoundtheneedtousevarioustechniquesandmethodstostatemyintentions.However,asIbecamemoreproficientattheapplicationofthismaterial,theneedformetostatemyintentionsconsciouslygraduallydisappeared.TheUniversepickeduponmyintentionsperfectlyanddeliveredthemtomewithoutmyactiveintervention.
Let’ssupposerightnowthatthereareafewintentionsyouwouldliketobringtofruitionin
yourlife.Iwouldsuggestthatyouworkononlyoneortwomajorintentionsatatimeandnotcloudyourawarenesswithallofthem.
Yourhigherselfwillautomaticallypresentwhatisjustrightandimportantforyouatthistime
ifyouletit.Therefore,whilebeinginthatquietandpeacefulstate(stillfocusedontheinsidewitheyesclosed),askyourhigherselftogentlybringoneofyourintentionstomind.You’llfindthisintentionfloatingtotheforefrontofyourconsciousawarenesseasily,asitissomethingwhichyouwouldhaveplacedmuchattentiononinyourdailylife.Ifyouhavealwayshadtheintentionofcreatingor“attracting”somethingnewintoyourlife,thatintentionwillcometoyoufairlyeasily.Focusonthatintentionlightlyinyourconsciousawareness.
Thewonderfulthingaboutbeinginalightandmanifestativeinnerstateisthatyour
consciousnessiscompletelypristineandclear.Therefore,whateverconsciousintentionthatyouholdstandsoutboldlyagainsttheblankwhitecanvas.Thesingularintentionthatyouholdwhileinthisstatecreatesapowerfulimprintontheenergyfieldaroundyou,whichisallthatisnecessary.Irepeat:Onceyouletgoofallthenegativefearthoughtsandworriesinyourinnerstate,whatremainsisthepristinestateofbeingnessandnothingness.Itisfromthisstateofnothingnessthroughwhicheverythingbecomesmanifest.
Broadlyspeaking,therearetwokindsofintentionswhichyoucanhold.Thefirstareintentions
tocreatesomethingtotally“new”inyourlife.Forexample,ifyouhaveneverbeenonatriptotheCaribbeanbeforeandwouldliketomanifestacruisetripthere.Thisiscreatingsomethingtotallynewinyourlifewhichyouhaveneverexperiencedbefore.Thesecondtypeofintentionsareforacertainconditioninyourlifetobedifferent.Theseinvolvechanginganexistingconditionorsituationinyourlifeintosomethingmoredesired.Perhapsyourcurrentfinancialsituationisundesirableandyouwouldliketochangeitintosomethingbetter.Thisbelongstothesecondtypeofintentions.Perhapsyouareinaless-than-favorablerelationshipandwouldliketofindanewlife
partner.Again,thisinvolveschangingasituationwhichyouperceiveasundesirable.Mostpeopledonotmakethisdistinctionwhentheyintendsomething.Understandingthissimple
differencecanmakethingseasier.Itisusuallyeasiertomanifestthefirsttypeofintentionsanddesires.WhenIsay“easier”,Imeaneasierfromourphysicalperspectivesbecausewecarrylessemotionalbaggageandattachmentsaboutthem.Wehavenopreconceivednotionsandbeliefsabouthowthingsshouldbe,ourpastefforts,orhowthingsshouldturnout.Asitissomethingtotallynewinourlives,weusuallyapproachitwithasenseofeagerness.Whenwearedealingwiththesecondtypeofintentions,wearedealingwithtwosidesofthesamecoin.First,wehavetheundesiredrealitywhichweintendtogetridof.Next,wehavethedesiredrealitywhichwewanttocreate.Veryoften,theopposingnatureofthesetwosidesoftencanceleachotherout,leadingtonophysicalresults.
Forastart,pickanintentionthatbelongstotheformer…thatofcreatingatotallynew
experienceinyourlife.Thisinvolvesmanifestingsomethingwhichyouhavenotmanifestedbefore,beitanexperience,relationship,tangibleobjectorintangiblesituation.Inotherwords,thefirsttypeofintentionsdonotinvolvechanginganythinginyourliferightnowinorderforyourdesiretobemanifest.Theseareusuallyeasiertoworkwithinthebeginning.
Asmentioned,wemakeanimprintontheUniversalenergyfieldbyfirstbecomingverystill,
gettingourinnerstatesdowntozeroandthenholdinganintentionlightlyinourminds.Itisimportantheretotakealighttouch.
Here’sthedifferencebetweentakingalighttouchandusingaheavy-handedapproach:Ifyou
areusingeventheslightestforce,thenyouarenottakingalighttouch.Ifyouaretrying,thenyouarenottakingalighttouch.Ifyouaretryinghard,thenyouarecertainlynottakingalighttouch.Whenonetakesalighttouch,thereisnoeffortortryinginvolved.Youjustdoitverylightly.Therefore,whenweholdanintentioninourconsciousnesswithalighttouch…wejustbringittomindverygentlyandholdittherewithoutforcingthingsonewayoranother,andwithoutexpectingthingstobeonewayoranother.
Howdowerepresentanintentioninourconsciousawareness?Thereareseveraldifferent
waystodoit,soexperimenttofindonethatworksbestforyou.Abraham-Hickshastaughtthatyoucanchooseanypoint/stageinthefulfillmentofyourdesireandthenjustvisualizethat.Let’ssupposethatyouwishtomanifestaCaribbeancruisetrip.Theendresult(finalmanifestation)isseeingyourselfonboardthecruiseshipitself.Therefore,youcanholdamentalpictureofyourselfhavingagoodtimeonthecruise.Butthatisnottheonlymanifestationpointwhichyoucanuse.Thereisaninfinitenumberofmanifestationpointsavailable,oneofwhichwillfeelrightandappropriateforyou.
Forexample,howaboutwalkingoutofthetouragencywithyourticketsinhand?Thatis
anotherpossiblemanifestationpointwhichyoucanuse.Howabouttellingyourfriendthatyouhavebookedyourtickets,andaresettingoffonaparticulardate?Howaboutmarkingthedateonyourcalendarandsettinganauto-replyonyouremail?Ifyoulookcloselyenough,you’llfindamyriadofmanifestationpointswhichyoucanusetorepresentyourintention.
Therefore,thereisnoneedtoalwaysusethefinalendresultasthestartingpointforthecreativeprocess.Anypointinthemiddlewillworkjustaswell.Sometimes,choosinganendstatemayfeeltoodistantforus.Ihavefoundthatveryoften,Idonotknowtheexactdetailsofhowthingswilllooklikewhenthephysicalmanifestationhappens…soImayactuallyaddasenseofconfusionintothevibrationalmixifIattempttoimaginehowthingswilllooklikewhentheyarefinallymanifested.Rememberthatanytimeyoufeelthatyou’retrying(hard),forexampletryinghardtocomeupwiththedetails…you’renottakingalighttouch.Thatiswhenyoushouldchooseanalternativemanifestationpointthatfeelsrightforyou.
Onceyouhaveselectedanappropriate(orafew)manifestationpoints,feelthefeelingsof
completionandassurancethatyouwillfeelateachofthesemanifestationpoints.Again,ifyouneedtotryhardtoconjureupthosefeelings…thenyouarenottakingalighttouch.Sowhatyoucandoistoselectanothermanifestationpoint(probablyclosertothepresentmoment)thatfeelsmorerealistictoyou.
Canyouseewhatwearedoinghere?Insteadofalwaysstubbornlyvisualizingtheendresultof
ourmanifestations,wecanjustaseasilypickanintermediatepointthatliesinbetweenour“now”momentandthemanifestationpoint.Anyoneofthesepointswillworkaslongasyoucanassociatewiththem.We’veallhadtheexperienceofbookingticketswiththetouragentandbeingintheiroffice,sowhynotusethatasyourmanifestationpointinsteadoftheCaribbeancruiseexperiencewhichmaybetotallynewtoyou?Chooseanymanifestationpointthatsuitsyoubest.
Onceyouhaveidentifiedamanifestationpoint,feelthefeelingsassociatedwiththatpoint.How

Whatyoudotomakeanimprintontheenergyfieldistogentlybringthisintentiontomind,and
thenfeelthefeelingsassociatedwiththatmanifestationpoint.Atthesametime,ithelpsifyouholdamentalpicture(orplayamentalmovie)relatedtothatmanifestationpoint.Onceagain,ifyoufeelaneedtotryhardtopictureanyofthese,you’retryingtoohard!Letgoandtakealightertouch.Thereshouldbenoeffortneededinanyofthis.Theimagesandfeelingsshouldcomespontaneouslytoyou.

IthinkoftheseriesofstepsaboveasaLightTouchmanifestationsequence.First,youenterastateofprofoundpeaceandstillness.Second,youholdyourintentionlightly.Third,youreturnyourselfbacktothatinitialstateofpeaceandstillnessagain.Whatthisdoesistoimprintyourintentionsclearlywithoutanyunintendedfeelingsoremotions.Ifyouweretogodirectlyfromoneintentiontothenext,orfromyourintentionbacktoyourwakingconsciousness,theremayberesidualfeelingsandemotionsthatarecarriedovertoyourintentionorevenbacktoyourwakingstate.Rememberthatitisjustasimportanttoreturntoastateofpeace,asitistobeginfromastateofpeacewhendoingthisinnerwork.
Chapter9-ManifestationsInvolvingChange
Manifestationsthatinvolvechangingcircumstancesorsituationsinourlivesaretricky,largelybecausemostpeopledonotrealizethedeepemotionalbaggagetheyhaveattachedtotheseintentions.
Whileyourintentionmayseemstraightforwardonthesurface(forexample,yourintentionto
driveanewcar),thisintentionisactuallytiedtoafewrelatedintentions.Inordertodriveanewcar,you’llfirsthavetoselltheoldcarwhichyouarecurrentlydriving.Your“old”carmayhavegivenyouconsiderableheadacheintermsofupkeepandmaintenance.Therefore,withoutevenrealizingit,youwouldhaveattachedallofthisemotionalbaggagetothemanifestationofthenewcaraswell.Next,thereistheissueofhowtogetridoftheoldcar.Youmayfeelthatyouarestuckwiththeoldcarbecauseofyourfinances,inwhichcasethethoughtofmanifestinganewcariscloudedwithworriesabouthowyouwillfindthemoneyrequired.
Asyoucansee,theremaybeconsiderableworryandnegativefeelingsunknowinglyattachedto
thecurrentcircumstances.Theseworrieskeepthecurrentsituationdeeplyingrainedinyourreality.Itishelpfultothinkofmanifestationsinvolvingchangeasconsistingoftwoparts.Thefirstpart
isyourcurrentunwantedrealitywhichyouaretryingtodrop.Thesecondisyourdesiredrealitywhichyouaretryingtocreate.Notethateachisaseparateintentionthatbothoftencanceleachotheroutandworkinoppositedirections.Thisistheexactreasonwhysomepeoplehavesomuchtroublemanifestingtheirdesires.Theyareunknowinglysettingpositiveintentionsandthencancelingthemoutlaterthroughtheirfocusonthenegativeaspects.
Let’ssupposethatyouarehavingissuesattheworkplacewithyourco-workers.Thisisthe
undesiredrealitywhichyouaretryingtogetridof.Thedesiredrealityisaharmoniousworkplacewhereeveryonegetsalongwellwitheveryoneelse.Bylumpingthesetwointentionsintoone,weoftencancelanyphysicalmanifestationsout…whichleadstonochangeinouroutercircumstances.Thisisbecauseeachtimewethinkofoursecondintention(foramoreharmoniousworkplace),weautomaticallycalltomindthefirstintention(thatthereareinterpersonalissuesatourworkplace).Althoughwearetryingto“moveaway”fromtheundesiredsituationtoamoredesiredone,theUniversedoesn’tworkthisway.OurUniverseworksonthebasisofattractionandnotexclusion.Thismeansthatwecanneverthinkaboutsomethingandthensay“no”toit.Theveryfactthatwearethinkingaboutsomethingunwantedmeansthatweareattractingittoourreality…becauseoftheenergy/focus/awarenesswearefeedingintothesituation.
Ifyouunderstandthisparadox,you’llimmediatelyunderstandwhysomeofyourmanifestations
havebeensolongincomingforyou.Forexample,ifyousay,“Iwantmoremoney”(apositiveintention)butatthesametimesay“becauseIdonothaveenoughmoney”(anegativeintention)…thenthesetwointentionsaregoingtocanceleachotherout.Regressiontothesamespotisoftenasignthatweareengagedinthisformofthinkingandoperatingintheworld.Notethatitdoesnotmatterwhetheryouaresaying“yes”or“no”atthelevelofyourphysicalwords.Whatmattersishow
youfeelasyousay“yes”or“no”.Thatiswhatisgoingtobedeliveredtoyou.WhatIhavefoundusefulwhenhandlingperceived“problems”and“issues”inourlifeistofirst
droptheperceivedissuescompletelyfromourconsciousness.Therefore,donottrytomanifestthedesiredendresultatonce.Recognizethesituationforwhatitisanddoitonestepatatime.Wedosobyfirstidentifyingtheundesirablecircumstanceswhichwearetryingtodropfromourlives.Iusetheword“drop”becausethatisexactlywhatwehavetodo…toletitgocompletelyfromourlives…tostoptalkingaboutitandtostoppayinganyattentiontoit.Inotherwords,wemustfirstwithdrawourconsciousattentionfromtheperceivedproblemcompletely.
Pleasenotethatyourmanifestationsuccesswillbeindirectproportiontohowwellyoucan
withdrawyourconsciousfocusfromtheperceivedissueathand,nomatterhowseriousitseems.Letmerepeatthiskeypointagain:Yoursuccesswillbeindirectproportiontohowwellyou

breakthemdownintotwoseparatesteps.First,droptheissuecompletelyfromyourconsciousnessandreturntothevoid.Second,focuspurelyonthenew,desiredrealitywhichyouwouldliketocreateinitsplaceuntilitismanifested.Let’sfirsttakealookathowtodropanissuefromourconsciousness.
Chapter10-LightTouchDroppingSequence
Droppinganissuefromyourconsciousnessiseasierdonewiththeheartthanwiththemind.IhavealreadyexplainedthatourUniverseworksonthebasisofattractionandnotexclusion.Wecannotdropsomethingfromourconsciousnessbyaffirmingthatitdoesnotexist,orbythinkingthatitisnotthere.Theverymereactofaffirmingorthinkingaboutit(theissue)perpetuatesitscontinuedexistenceinourlives!
Therefore,amoreeffectivewayisneededtodropanissuefromourconsciousness(andhence
reality)entirely.Thisissomethingcounterintuitiveandnoteasilygraspedbyourintellect,sincewehavebeensousedtosaying“no”tothingsinordertopushthemawayfromus.Butunderstandthatwhilesaying“no”mayworkataphysicallevel,saying“no”tosomething(especiallywithgreatintensity)doesnotworkataspirituallevel.Onecanneversay“no”tosicknessandkeepitaway,butwecansay“yes”towellnessandhealth.Onecanneversay“no”tolackandhopetopushitaway,butwecansay“yes”toprosperityandabundance.
Understandingthisprinciplewillclearthingsupveryquicklyinyourlifebecausethemoment
youdropsomethingfromyourconsciousness,youinstantlyeraseitfromyourphysicalrealitywithanastonishingspeedthatwillsurpriseevenyou!Longstandingproblems,issues,addictionsanddramasinyourlifejustfallawayontheirown.

Thisismorethanjustamentalexercise.Asmentionedearlier,ifyousuccessfullymasterthis
newwayofliving…youwouldhavefoundawaytosidestepmostoftheperceivedproblemsandissuesinyourlife.Theywouldjustfallawaybytheirownaccord.Letmeexplainhow.
ThisisthedroppingsequenceIhavedesignedforusewithLightTouchManifestations.The
firststepistotrustthatyourhigherselfalreadyknowswhatyouwanttodropfromyourcurrentreality.Throughyourpastexperiencesandpreferences,youalreadyhaveaclearideaofwhatisunwantedinyourexperience.Therefore,thereisnoneedtokeepremindingyourselfoftheunwanted/undesirablepartsofyourlife.Thesecondstepistogettothatconduciveandmanifestativeinnerstatewhereyoufeelasenseoflightnessandpeace.Onceyouarethere,itistimetostartthedroppingprocess.
Theprerequisiteofusingadroppingsequenceisthatyouhavetobeinaconduciveinnerstate,
freefromtheinfluenceofanynegativethoughtsorworries.Youdonothavetoconsciously“believe”thatthisworks,butyoumustbeinastateofnon-resistantpeaceandjoyfirstsuchthatyouarenotpushingagainstyourself.Onlyinthisstatecanyoutakealighttouchandmakeanimpressionintheenergyfieldaroundyou.Onceyouareinthisstate,youneedtostartasequencethatautomaticallydropstheunwantedissuefromyourconsciousnessentirely.Notethatthis“sequence”cannotremindyouoforberelatedtotheissueitself.Thisiswhyseveralhealingmodalitieshavecomeupwithseeminglyillogicalmethodswhichinvolvetotallyunrelatedandstrangeimageries.Thereisamethodtotheirmadness.Itistostartthedroppingprocesspurelywithoutcallinguptheproblemorissueitself.

isallyouhavetodo.Whatyouhavejustdoneistostartthedroppingsequenceofdroppingeverythingthatisunwanted/undesiredbyyouatthistime.Youdonotevenhavetophysicallydirecttheprocessorthinkaboutwhathastobedropped.Donotbringupanythingabouttheperceivedissue/problemwhichyouaretryingtosolve.Donotthinkaboutanyofit,orimaginetheissuefullyresolvedinyourmind’seye.Thatwillnotbenecessary.Instead,justmentallythinktoyourself“drop”…andthat’sit.
Notethatthereisnoneedtofeeltheissuedroppingorresolvingitself,becausethatwouldbring
upthevibrationsofthatissueinyourowninnerstate.Thisisthekey.Drop,drop,drop!Justtheword“drop”isnecessarytostartthedroppingprocess.Youcanalsousethephrase“Idropwhatneedstobedropped”tostarttheprocess,anditisdone!
Takenoteofhowyoufeelontheinsidewhenyouusethedroppingprocess.Youshouldfeela

Feelingaconstantsenseofpeaceandloveinyourinnerstatewhileyousilentlythink“drop!”is
anindicationthatthingsarehappeninginyourinnerstate.Wearegoingtothestuckenergeticpatternsthathavekeptthingsintheirplacesandresettingthem.Therefore,thewords“zero”,“reset”and“erase”willworkjustaswell.Experimenttoseewhichwordyoulikebest.
UnlikemostoftheprocessesIhaveofferedinmybooks,thisdroppingsequenceisnotafeeling
process.Therearenogoodfeelingsyouhavetofeel,althoughIhavefeltaspontaneousdeepeningofmysenseoflightnessandpeacewhenIusethedroppingprocess.Feelingmorepeaceispositiveproofthatthedroppingsequenceisworking,andthatyouarefreeingupmoreofyourconsciousness.
Resisttheurgetocheckyourphysicalrealityforsignsofchangeafteryouhaveemergedfrom
yourpeacefulstate.Theveryurgeto“check”whethersomethinghasworkedputsyourfocusrightbackontheissue.Whatyoushoulddoinsteadistosilentlythinkoftheword“drop”severaltimesthroughoutthedaywhenyouaregoingaboutyourdailyactivitieswithoutreferencetoanythinginparticular.

Whydoesthiswork?Itiscertainlynotamagicalprocess,althoughtheresultscansometimes

Thereistremendouspowerindroppingtheunwantedineachmoment.Unwantedthoughts,feelingsandbeliefseventuallyleadtounwantedphysicalmanifestations.Youcaninvokethedroppingsequenceeverywhereandanywhereyouare.Whiledrivingalongthefreewayoronyourdailycommutetowork…simplyrepeattheword“drop”gentlyandlettheUniversedotherest.Yourhigherselfknowsexactlywhatisnolongerthebestforyouandwhatneedstobedroppedineachmoment.Whenyouthinkoftheword“drop”,yougiveyourselfpermissiontotransmuteallyournegativebeliefs,thoughtsandmemoriesthatnolongerserveyoubacktonothingness.Asaresult,younolongerperpetuateundesiredrealitythewayitis.
Whatcanyouexpectfromacontinueduseofthedroppingsequence?Thegreatestvalueofthe
droppingprocessisthatyouaretakinganextremelylighttouchandnotactively“fighting”theissueathand.
Thinkaboutdroppinganissueasfocusingonthewhitespacesonapieceofpaper.Theissues
arethewordsthatareprintedonthepaperwithblackink.Whenwewanttodroptheperceivedproblemsorissuesfromourlives,wedonotfocusonthewordsprintedonthepaper(asmanypeopledo),butshouldinsteadfocusonthewhitespacesandseeingthiswhitespaceasengulfingeverything.Whenyouthinkdrop,youfocusonthewhitespacesinsteadoftheunwantedwordsonthepaper.
Youaremakinganimprintontheenergeticfieldaroundyouyetatthesametimenot
consciouslydoinganything.Soinasense,thedroppingprocessistheperfectexampleoflettinggoandlettingGod.Youaresteppingoutofyourownwayandlettingthemagichappenwithoutresistingit.Ifyou’llkeepatthedroppingprocessforafewweeks,you’llfeellighterandfreer.Butmostimportantly,you’llfindthatyourperceived“problems”and“issues”inlifenolongerbotheryouasmuch.Allthethingsthatbotheredortroubledyouinthepastseemtostraightenthemselvesoutorfadeawayintothebackground.That’sbecauseyouhavetakenalighttouchandgentlydroppedthemfromyourconsciousness.
Thereisnoneedtoworryaboutwhatyouaredroppingwhenyouusethedroppingprocess.
Thereisalsononeedtoworryaboutwhetheranythingishappening.Ifyoukeepworryingaboutwhetheryouareindeeddroppingwhatneedstobedropped,thenyoudonotreapthefullbenefitsofthistechnique.Thewholepurposeofthistechniqueisforustoturnawayandcompletelyloosenourgripontheperceivedissuesinourlives.Therefore,youdon’thavetoconsciouslythinkaboutaproblemorbringaproblemtomindinorderforittobedropped.Yourpastintentionsforpositivechangeshavealreadysetthingsintomotion,andyouarenowallowingthesechangestohappenwhenyouthink“drop”.That’sthebeautyofthedroppingprocess.Allyouneedtodoistosayorthinkdrop,andletgooftheissueonebitatatime.Ilovethistechniqueanddoitallthetime.
Afteryouhavekeptatthedroppingprocessforsometime,you’llfeelasenseofinexplicable
lightnessandjoy…asifwhathasbotheredyouinthepasthasjustfadedaway.Itisasifthecauseofwhathasbeenbotheringyouforalongtimehasbeentakenaway,andyouwillknowitdeeplyinyourbeingness.You’llknowandfeelitsostronglythatthereisnoneedtolooktotheoutsideforphysicalevidenceorproof.Youjustknowthatitisso,andthatitisdone!Thisiswhenyouarereadyforthenextstepoftheprocess,whichistofollowthestepsinChapter8tolightlyintendanewrealityforyourself.However,IcanassureyouthatprofoundchangeswillstilloccurevenifyoudonotfollowtheactivemanifestationstepsinChapter8,ifyouarediligentinyourapplicationofthedroppingsequence.Justdroppingunwantednegativethoughtsandissuesfromyourlifewillautomaticallyallowforpositivechangestoenteryourlifewithverylittleeffort.

sequence,weareactuallycleaningupunwantedmemories,thoughtsandbeliefsinourunconscious.Thatistheveryfirstcomponentofthemanifestationchain.Therefore,wearegoingtotherootoftheissueandreturningtherootcauseofanyperceivedprobleminourlives(theunwantedmanifestations)backtozero.Onceyouhavedealtwiththerootcause,theycannolongerleadto(2)consciousthoughtsandsubsequently(3)feelingsandemotionswhichleadto(4)outerphysicalmanifestations.That’swhythedroppingprocessissopowerful.Itdissolvestherootcauseofanythingunwanted.
Theonlydownsideofthisprocessisthatmostpeopledonotusethesetechniquesconsistently
becausetheirlogicalleftbraincannotgrasporunderstandtheconceptslogically.Tothem,theycan’tunderstandhowwecanpossiblyletgoofsomethingwithoutfirstcallingittomindorpayingattentiontoit.Thatwouldbefallingintothesametrapasbefore.Themomentwebringa“problem”tomind,weholdconsciousthoughts(2)abouttheveryissuewearetryingtopushaway.However,sincetheUniversedoesnotworkonthebasisofexclusion,these(2)consciousthoughtswillleadto(3)feelingsandemotionswhicheventuallyleadto(4)outermanifestations!Therefore,whileitseemsasifwearesaying“no”tosomethingandactivelytryingtocomeupwithwaystoworkaroundtheissue…ourattentiontoitiswhatcausestheveryissuetobeperpetuatedinourreality!Thisiswhymillionsofpeoplearoundtheworldstaytrappedinthesenegativemanifestationcycles.
Intheearlydaysofmyspiritualjourney,Ihadanextremelydifficulttimetryingtomanifest
moremoneyinmylife.ItriedeverysingletrickinthebookandappliedeverytechniqueIlearned,butstillnothinghappened.Itdidnotdawnonmethattheproblemwasduetomycontinuedfixationonthefinancial“lack”inmylife.IthoughtIwastryingtopushawaythelackbysaying“no”toitandthinkingofwaystoovercomeit,wheninfactmyconsciousattentionto“it”wasperpetuatingthelack.

fromtheperceived“lack”,thesituationwouldhavestraighteneditselfoutinafewdaysorweeksatmost!Iknowthistobetrue,forthiswaswhathappenedwhenIfinallyunderstoodthetrueessenceofthesemanifestationprinciples.MyouterrealityturnedaroundandeverythingIaskedforsobadlyall
mylifecametomeinamatterofweeks!Itcanbethesameforyoutoosolongasyougivethisnewwayofthinkingandactingintheworldatry.Alwaystakealighttouch.
Nowthatweknowhowtohandle(1)theunconsciousmemoriesandbeliefsinourlives,let’s
summarizehowwecanworkwiththeotherpartsofthemanifestationsequencetoachieveourdesiredoutermanifestations.
Recallthatitisimpossibletocontrolour(2)consciousthoughts,sincesomanyofthemrace

Theendresultofallthisisthatyoureturnyourinnerstatebacktooneofbeingness,asithas
alwaysmeanttobe.Thisisyournaturalstate.Yourinnerstateisnolongercloudedwithfrivolousworriesandthoughtsthatoccupyyourattentionalldaylongwhichcausedyournegativefeelingstogointooverdrive.Instead,youarenowfreetoperceiveandcreatefromtheUniverse’sperspective.Itisawonderfullyliberatingstatetobeinwhenyoufinallyrealizethatyouarefree,andhavealwaysbeen.Freefromyournegativeproblemsandworries,butmostimportantly,freetocreaterealityinwhateverwayyoudesire.
Ifyouapplythetechniquestaughtinthisbookconsistentlyforthenextfewweeks,you’ll
