Clubs, stadium-owners and architects can all develop forward-looking concepts and opportunities for using pitches, based on this newly developed surfacing system.

In addition to the approval given jointly by FIFA and UEFA from March 1, 2005 for artificial pitches to be used for playing football in all national and international competitions, this new type of playing surface with its unique playing performance now also offers the realistic prospect of making multiple use of stadiums. Freed up from the constraints imposed by using natural turf when building events arenas, it allows the focus to shift to optimising the marketing potential. The Benchmark

THE STRONG, SOFT FIBREPolytan has over 35 years of experience in the development, manufacture and installation of synthetic sports surfacing systems. We have accumulated a wealth of experience in the use of monofilament fibres for synthetic turf pitches through constant quality checks by our research department and by independent testing establishments together with the ability to draw on the experience of users in sports clubs. On the basis of this, a new monofilament fibre yarn specially for professional football use has been developed in the Polytan laboratories. To take account of the special requirements involved, not only was the geometric design of the pitch fibres altered but also the method of manufacture has been modified.

The result is an especially soft synthetic turf fibre that satisfies all the requirements of the new FIFA 2-star standard, as the first MONOFILAMENT sports surface. 40% of all FIFA 2 Star certifications and more than 60% of all FIFA re-certifications proove the outstanding quality-leadership of Polytan football turf systems.

Colour and appearance of the pitch:The new pitch has an absolutely flat, even appearance, and unlike natural pitches there is no difference in colour or patchy surface coverage even in the areas subjected to heavy wear. The new colouring on the fibres produces a rich, natural-looking green, ideal for TV.

LigaTurf is „state of the art“To guarantee optimum and consistently good playing characteristics, we suggest that the best possible standard of playing surface is used. Polytan LigaTurf offers players the best possible synthetic turf system currently available and provides the added economic attraction of long life with high usage capabilities, sustainable play characteristics coupled with low maintenance costs.

The pitch surface achieves ratings significantly above 60% to just below 70% for both energy dissipation and cushioning, thereby satisfying the FIFA 2-Star standard at all times. The consistently good characteristics of the playing surface can only be achieved and permanently maintained when used in combination with the bound elastic shockpad. The leadingposition in FIFA 2-Star recommended football pitches backed bynumerous re-certifications, after one year of constant and intensiveuse, are an impressive proof of the system performance.

At the end of 2006 the training facilities at FC Bayern München and Borussia Mönchengladbach and the stadium turf of the EM Stadium Salzburg (Premier League, Austria) passed the FIFA 2 Star re-test, producing outstanding results which prove the long-lasting quality of Polytan artificial pitch systems. As well as demonstrating practically no loss of cushioning the playing characteristics of the pitch similarly showed only minor changes when compared to a newly-laid pitch. A surface which protects players against physical injury, yet offers optimal grip, fast turning and jumping movements, and perfect ball roll performance and bounce characteristics are thus similarly guaranteed at a professional level for the long term when the Polytan total system is used.

Only a total system which is balanced in terms of its structural elements with each of its individual components can guarantee sustainable, consistently good playing qualities and characteristics. The elastic support layer means that the playing surface retans its outstanding playing characteristics throughout its life, with practically no deterioration in quality.

Excellent rebound capacityLigaTurf R surface features excellent rebound capacity. This makes the ball roll and play properties of Polytan LigaTurf R directly comparable with its older brother. This is a result of the raw material composition and improved product design.

High quality raw material compositionThe raw fibre composition with high quality ingredients ensures that the wear resi-stance and stability of the filaments meet the very highest demands. LigaTurf R has completed the 100,000 Lisport cycles without any problems and therefore provides the durability and safety required of a synthetic turf surface.

New cross-section

The PE formulation and the special design of the fibre with rounded edges ensures that it is soft on the skin and is pleasant to the touch. Compared to the standard LigaTurf product, LigaTurf R has a fibre cross-section which is 50% thicker with a maximum thickness of up to 300 µm. The cross-section has been improved to ensure that it is nevertheless soft to the touch. This helps protect the players and creates a perfect look.

LigaTurf RS+ The benchmark for football turf The Polytan LigaTurf system – has gained the greatest number of FIFA Recommended 2-Star awards – and is now even better.

Success through advances in technology

The research findings from the 9 Polytan pitch systems which have already undergone a third or fourth FIFA Recommended 2-Star test are of particular value in continuing product development.

Polytan in-house R&D Department, coupled with in-house manufacture of the fibre filaments and surface manufacture, make it possible to utili-se the latest materials and production technologies in this new product, LigaTurf RS+.

New fibre cross-section with 360 μm fibre thickness

The new cross-section and the enlarged thickness of the filament required further advances in the formulation for the raw material in order to maintain and optimise the softness, the natural look and feel of the fibre. Abrasion qualities and wear resistance are also further enhanced as a result. The use of high-quality raw materials combined with matching of the chemical composition to the intended use together with continuous production monitoring are the successful components operated by Polytan. As with all Polytan football pitch systems, the new raw materials formulation is environmentally friendly and causes no concerns at all in terms of eco-toxicity. Intensive use by a variety of teams and players as well as extended periods of use have no detrimental impact on the new LigaTurf RS+ pitch fibre with its improved raw materi-als composition, as is impressively demonstrated by the Lisport extreme test with its 100,000 stress cycles.

To demonstrate the performance capability of the Polytan LigaTurf RS+, the surface was subjected to extreme endurance testing. The first requirement was for the surface system, together with the Polytan BionPro infill, to be subjected to an aggressive sun simulation with extremely high UV exposure, and to dry and wet weathering. After this preparatory treatment, the LigaTurf RS+ system was sub-jected to an endurance test on the Lisport test machine. A total of 100,000 double strokes were applied over the LigaTurf RS+ football surface and the BionPro infill. At the end of this stress test there were no signs of the fibres splitting or any damage to the LigaTurf RS+ fibres, or any wearing and abrasion to the BionPro infill. Impressive proof of the robustness of the LigaTurf RS+ pitch system.

Further improved bounce-back

Polytan has succeeded in once again improving the already outstanding bounce-back characteristics of the LigaTurf surface. This is achieved both by the new cross-section of the LigaTurf RS+ fibre and the optimised combination of raw materials. Ball roll behaviour essentially dependent on the bounce-back in the fibres of the surface, has been further improved in terms of its long-term perfor-mance. An additional resultof improved bounce-back is simplified pitch maintenance. If the system is continuously maintained in accordance with Polytan specifications, then the overall amount of maintenance needed is less than for conventional football pitches.

The thickness of the fibre contributes significantly to the ability of the surface to absorb forces, to the fibre position recovery and its visual appearance.

The new rhombus-shaped design of the LigaTurf RS+ fibre, with its 360 µm thickness, easily satisfies the demands for better force absorption (for improved wear) and even better fibre recovery ability (technical values relating to how the ball behaves, as well as intensity of maintenance). With LigaTurf RS+ pitch fibres there is none of the damage such as split-ting of the narrow edge areas frequently observed in other fibre cross-sections,. This effectively prevents matting of the pitch surface, resulting in superior play performance over the long term.

These are the best preconditions for a pitch system which will last for years.
