The Cost of Discipleship

Matthew 8:18-22 Luke 9:57-62

Jesus saw a great multitude about Him

Jesus gave a command to cross over

Scribe comes and says, “I will follow You where ever You go.”

Jesus replies, Foxes have holes Birds have nests Son of Man has nowhere to rest His

head Another disciple said, “I will follow

but let me first go and bury my father.”

Jesus replies, Follow me Let the dead bury their own dead

Jesus walking on the road when a man (“scribe” in Matthew) said, “I will follow You where ever You go.”

Jesus commands His disciple “Follow Me” Disciple said, “Let me go and bury my

father first.” Jesus replies

“Let the dead bury their own dead.” You go and preach the Kingdom of God

Another disciple said, “I will follow You but let me first go and bid my family farewell.”

Jesus replies, “No one having put their hand to the plough and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God.”
