Solutions StatementWhy eTool? At eTool we love solving challenging problems, especially when it comes to the environment. The built environment is responsible for more than 35% of the planet's carbon footprint – a problem that requires an intelligent solution. Furthermore, at such a time of economic instability we believe it is imperative that design tools that provide quantifiable environmental improvements are available and economically viable.

What does eTool enable?eTool provides you with the ultimate in ESD tools and services to design, construct and operate with the lowest environmental impact while getting the best return on investment.

Community awareness and interest in environmental issues is growing rapidly, however there is a lot of confusion about what actually constitutes an environmentally friendly product. The only way to truly determine the relative merits of building design options is to quantify their impact on the environment and associated costs over the life span of the building. Only Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) allows for this.

There are two components to eTool:

eTool LCA - our market leading software designed specifically for “Life Cycle Assessment” (LCA) of the built environment.

eTool Consulation - utilising the power of eTool LCA, our incredibly motivated and experienced in-house team provide you with the ultimate in economically viable ESD.

How does eTool achieve this?eTool’s unique "Life Cycle Assessment" and “Life Cycle Cost” (LCC) software eTool LCA enables us to get a complete and quantifiable picture of your project's environmental and cost impacts. Being able to quantify, then allows us to compare and improve. Rather than just another "rating" system, eTool LCA is a powerful design tool.

Quantify – Compare – Improve

We've built eTool LCA to be totally scalable, accessible and flexible for various projects from residential to commercial and development to infrastructure.

LCA has rapidly become the new benchmark in sustainable and intelligent design internationally, so don't get left behind!

Work with eTool and achieve the goals and ambitions of your next construction project with ease while maintaining a competitive edge.

Residential

Winner of the HIA GreenSmart Energy Efficiency Award 2012, this beautiful house in Yallingup achieved a fantastic low carbon result and has featured in magazines around Western Australia.

The building design features low embodied energy materials such as light timber construction and the floor is elevated eliminating the need for concrete.

Renwable energy including solar PV and a solar hot water system helped the design offset almost all of it's embodied carbon and the use of natural wood heating and ceiling fans lowered the operational impacts of day to day living.

Sepp's building company SustainabuildNow uses eTool Consulting for environmental assessments on all of their projects.

Commercial

Greening Australia, the Tasmanian Department of Education and CSIRO partnered to deliver a centre for sustainability programs in Hobart.

The project incoporated recycling from the start and reused materials from a local housing project including timber, iron, glass and concrete to lower the embodied impact considerably.

Solar PV and hydronic heating and cooling systems were used, saving 111% against the Tasmanian operational energy benchmark.

The centre is the first of its kind in Australia and was opened by the Minister for Education Nick McKim and Senator Carol Brown in November 2012.

Development

Winner of the AIA Sustainability and Multi Residential Awards 2012 (WA), this luxury development in Fremantle achieved a zero carbon result and will be featured in Grand Designs Magazine Australia in early 2013.

The architects and developers were keen to incorporate recycling practices into the construction methods and building design. They reduced the embodied energy substantially by recycling materials onsite from the previous building and sourcing local materials.

Each unit incoporates solar PV, rainwater and grey water recycling and uses natural light, ventlation and fans rather than a heating/cooling system. The units are also fully adaptable for different tenants with moveable walls, giving it a very long design life.

Concept Development Approval

Elements • Land• Concept design and project vision• Feasibility analysis• Investor package• Finance• Documentation for approvals

• Design consultants• Detailed design specification• Detailed documentation• Generation of marketing and sales info

Developer Questions

• Will sustainable design add value to the project?• Can it assist in Development Approval?• What are our sustainability and cost goals?

• How can we make quantifiable improvements to the design and know we'll get value for money? • Can it assist in getting the Building License?

eTool Solutions

We will show you: what could be achieved, the biggest wins, how this adds value to the project, how to include it in your initial design concept and assist in Development Approval.

The preliminary assessment will provide you with a complete environmental and cost model of the project and enable the project team to make quantifiable design changes for improvement.

Building License

• Final design refinement•Documentation of performance specifications• Sales and marketing• Tender for construction

• How do we quantify the benefits and communicate these to the sales team?

Final LCA and LCCA and ongoing design input

The final reports and certification will be presentated and communicated to the entire project team and stakeholders. Ouputs used to generate sales and marketing materials. Ongoing support to the project team to resolve any design issues associated with ESD elements.
