FAMILYBeverly Cleary was born on a farm in
McMinnville, Oregon on April 12, 1916.Beverly Cleary’s father was Chester Lloyd
Bunn and her mother was Mable Atlee.
She spent her time on a farm called Yamhill,Oregon.
Her town did not have a library so her mom made an agreement with the state library to send books to her town.
Beverly Cleary started to read books with the help of her mother.
Beverly Cleary’s family moved to Portland, Oregon when she was old enough to go to school.
CHILDHOOD
School daysWhen Beverly Cleary entered school
she had trouble reading books.She worked hard to improve her
reading and finally in third grade she became an excellent reader
She spent a lot oftime in the library.
Education In 1934,Beverly Cleary moved
to California and attended college.
She graduated from junior college in Ontario, California.
She also earned a degree in Library Science from University of Washington in Seattle.
Life After College Beverly Cleary began working as a librarian in
Yakima,Washington in 1940. She married Clarence Cleary in 1940. Clarence Cleary encouraged her to write books. Her first book was henry huggins. She became a well-known author.
HONORS AND AWARDS Beverly Cleary wrote over 30 best-selling
books for children and young adults. Her books have earned many prestigious
awards, including the National Medal Of Art and the Newbery medal for Dear Mr.Henshaw.
She received the Newbery Honor award for Ramona Quimby and Ramona And Her Father.

Beverly Cleary is a well- known writer of humorous, realistic fiction for young readers.
She also writes in a style that is easy to read aloud or alone.
