SOCIAL SERVICE PROJECTS

“The UNICEF Education Programme”: International Inner Wheel at theconvention of triennial meeting held in Christchurch, New Zealand onMay 2006, has pledged to support the project over the next three years,and the funds raised will be utilised for education of girls and women.

“UNICEF Education Programme”: Alla Convention triennale di Chri-stchurch-New Zealand Maggio 2006 International Inner Wheel si è im-pegnato a sostenere il programma per i prossimi tre anni, e le raccoltefondi saranno utilizzate per la scolarizzazione delle bambine e delledonne.

“MED CHILD” Service Project: Inner Wheel Italy supports the project,presented at the Forum of 5th February 2005 at Genoa, by the Presidentthen, Mrs. Rossana Rizzo. The aim of the Project, is to promote help tothe needy Mediterranean children, by offering them a better environ-ment, where their growth, not only physical but also psychological is as-sured.

“MED CHILD”: International Inner Wheel Italia appoggia Il progetto pre-sentato al forum di Genova il 5 febbraio 2005 dallʼallora GovernatriceRossana Rizzo. Il progetto ha lʼobiettivo di promuovere un aiuto ai bam-bini bisognosi del Mediterraneo, offrendo loro un ambiente migliore dovela loro crescita non solo fisica ma anche psicologica, sia assicurata.

“SORRISO NEL MONDO”: Improvement of childrenʼs facial malforma-tion in developing countries; Central America, Asia and Africa. Volunte-ers of this Association intervene by a sanitary surgery. Dr. Andrea DiFrancesco has been very successful in illustrating the project, and manyIIWC of the District 204° PHF have contributed with remarkable gene-rosity.

“SORRISO NEL MONDO”: Miglioramento delle malformazioni conge-nite del viso dei bambini, nei paesi in via di sviluppo Centro America,Asia ed Africa, I volontari della Associazione intervengono con la chirur-gia sanitaria. Dr. Andrea Di Francesco ha avuto molto successo nel il-lustrare il progetto e molti IIWC del Distretto 204° PHF hanno contribuitocon notevole generosità.

While in England, a number of membersof the club had been hosted, by the IIWC of Bideford. Il Premio Letterario Inner Wheel, come è noto, dal 1996 è presenza qua-lificata nellʼambito dei Concorsi Letterari Femminili. Aperto alle SocieInner Wheel ed alle Consorti dei Rotariani, si pone ormai da più di un de-cennio come iniziativa culturale che, unendo le donne e le Socie InnerWheel intorno alla scrittura, valorizza appunto quella comprensione in-ternazionale, che è finalità ʻfondamentaleʼ dello Statuto Inner Wheel.

Premio internazionale. Europeo. Tanto da chiamarsi Premio LetterarioInner Wheel Europa nelle due ultime edizioni. Progetto pregevole cheunisce lʼItalia con Paesi di lingua francese, tedesca, spagnola, inglese.Progetto capace di innovarsi nel tempo, attraverso la ricerca di nuoveformule ed aprendosi a collaborazioni sempre più stimolanti. Capace diessere anche strumento di service.

Ascoltare a Torino, nella bella sede dove abbiamo celebrato in ottobrela cerimonia della XII Edizione, le parole di consenso e di apprezza-mento della Presidente Internazionale Kamala Ramakrishnan per il Pre-mio Letterario Inner Wheel, ci ha riempito di gioia, di personale ed intimasoddisfazione. Soddisfazione perché è stata riconosciuta al Premio dallapiù alta carica Istituzionale dellʼInner Wheel una funzione importante,maturata e guadagnata anno dopo anno.

Kamala ha detto: ʻHo appreso con piacere del vostro Premio Letterario,che, cominciato da uno dei vostri Club, abbraccia oggi molte nazioni elingue diverse. Questo è davvero un bellʼesempio di comprensione in-ternazionale.. Joyce Carol Oates ha scritto “la letteratura è la via mae-stra per indossare, spesso involontariamente e inconsciamente, unʼaltrapelle, per avere unʼaltra voce ed unʼaltra anima”.

Il vostro Premio Letterario nato nel 1996 ha contribuito grandemente apromuovere la Comprensione Internazionale. La crescita del PremioLetterario avviene grazie a Socie impegnate nel progetto, ma sensibilialle necessità di innovare per farlo crescere. Purtroppo succede che al-cune Socie impegnate in un progetto lo considerino proprio e non nepermettano la crescita.

Questo non è avvenuto per voi grazie alla mentalità aperta che ne hapermesso uno sviluppo impensabile. Mi complimento con Luisa Vinci-guerra non solo per aver avuto inizialmente questa brillante idea, maper il fatto che continui ancora a seguirlo con il suo Comitatoʼ.

The IW Literary Prize, as we all know, is a qualified womenʼs literarycompetition since 1996. It is open to IW members and to the wives of theRotarians, and it has been for over a decade a cultural brainchild gathe-ring women and IW members together around writing, and promotinginternational understanding, which is a fundamental aim of IW Constitu-tion.

It is an International Prize. A European Prize (this is why it has been cal-led IW-Europe Literary Prize over the last two editions). It is a valuableproject, involving Italy and international participants from French, Ger-man, Spanish, English-speaking countries. Our project is capable torenew itself over time, through the search for new approaches and evermore inspiring cooperations. It is developed as a tool for our service.

The chance in Turin of hearing President Kamalaʼs words of praise andapproval for the IW Literary Prize, in the beautiful venue in which washeld the XII Edition prize ceremony in October last year, filled us with joyand self-fulfillment. An important role, developed and gained over theyears, has been acknowledged to the Prize by the highest IW Officer.

Kamala said: ʻIt was really interesting to read about your literary prizethat began as a single clubʼs project and has now gone on to take withinits fold different countries and varied languages. What a great way tofoster international understanding. As Joyce Carol Oates says “literatureis the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another'sskin, another's voice, another's soul.”Today this attempt to foster mutual understanding, your literary prizethat was born in 1996 it has grown phenomenally in its reach. Suchgrowth is not possible unless we have people committed to the projectand with a vision to take it forward incorporating changes as it grows.You know many people who are put in charge of a project get so pos-sessive and so set in their thinking that they often stop growth. I amhappy that this project is in the hands of forward thinking members whohave taken it much beyond anyone could drean of. And I congratulateLuisa Vinciguerra for not just coming up with such a brilliant and imagi-native idea but continuing with her committee to looking after it stillʼ.

Visit of The IIW. President Kamala Ramakrishnan

An important event of International relationship, the visit of IIW President Ka-mala Ramakrishnan 25-31 March 2008. Proposed and promoted by the District204° PHF, a warm welcome was also given by the Board Director GabriellaAdami, National Council President Rosa Maria Lo Torto, and National Repre-sentative Maria Beatrice Guerrini with their presence in Genoa.

During her visit to Genoa Turin and Milan, the President was received with avery warm welcome by the authorities Inner Wheel Italy, District Chairman PaolaLagorara, almost all the President of the club of the District 204°PHF, members,and new entering members.

Visit of The IIW.Vice President Suzanne Hem Nielsen

IIW. Vice President Suzanne Hem Nielsen was invited in occasion of “Festa dellʼ Amicizia” Forum “Human Rights”, on 7-9 March 2008, IIW Italy an-nual meeting. A very warm welcome was given in Venice, to the Vice Presidentby the Authorities Inner Wheel Italy. During the convention the presence of in-stitutional authorities in Italy of UNICEF, Amnesty International, EIUC, and Uni-versity rendered the occasion interesting and important.

The clubs of Venice organised the event efficiently, and the presence of morethan 300 members showed the enthusiastic interest. We wish Suzanne a brightfuture, and a great 2008/2009.
