What is LibreOffice?
LibreOffice is a free, open-source, and powerful office suite – its clean interface and feature-rich tools help you unleash your creativity and enhance your productivity. LibreOffice includes several applications that make it the most powerful Free and Open Source office suite on the market: Writer (word processing), Calc (spreadsheets), Impress (presentations), Draw (vector graphics and flowcharts), Base (databases), and Math (formula editing).

A Short History...● The OpenOffice.org project began when Sun Microsystems released the source code (“blueprints”)
for its StarOffice® software to the open source community on October 13, 2000. ● OpenOffice.org 1.0, the product, was released on April 30, 2002. Major updates to OpenOffice.org
included version 2.0 in October 2005 and version 3.0 in October 2008. ● On January 26, 2010, Oracle Corporation acquired Sun Microsystems.● On September 28, 2010, the community of volunteers who develop and promote OpenOffice.org
announce a major change in project structure. After ten years’ successful growth with Sun Microsystems as founding and principle sponsor, the project launched an independent foundation called The Document Foundation, to fulfill the promise of independence written in the original charter. This foundation is the cornerstone of a new ecosystem where individuals and organizations can contribute to and benefit from the availability of a truly free office suite.
● Unable to acquire the trademarked OpenOffice.org name from Oracle Corporation, The Document Foundation named its product LibreOffice. Continuing the version numbers from OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice 3.3 was released in January 2011.

Why use it?❖ It is free. You don’t have to pay a
dime to use this excellent Office Suite. LibreOffice offers many features that are only available on premium office suites.
❖ It has a portable version. You can edit your documents anywhere you go and run it via a Flash Drive.
❖ It is able to export files to PDF. This is essential because the PDF file is one of the most universally accepted document formats.
❖ It is fast, light, and stable. It runs smoothly and doesn’t use too much memory.

❖ The software and hardware prerequisites for installing LibreOffice on a Windows system are as follows:
❖ Microsoft Windows XP SP3, Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, or Windows 10
❖ Pentium-compatible PC (Pentium III, Athlon or more-recent system recommended)
❖ 256 MB RAM (512 MB RAM recommended)❖ Up to 1.5 GB available hard disk space❖ 1024x768 resolution (higher resolution
