Library Instruction Sessions

Faculty interested in customized library instructional sessions for their classes should contact their library liaison, or the Library Reference Desk (x5068).

Sessions are designed to demonstrate techniques and identify resources specific to the research needs of the topic.

Faculty, try our new Assignment Alert Form

Give your librarians advance notice about an upcoming assignment that will require your students to use library resources. This will allow the library time to ensure that the required materials are available as well as to better assist students.

Course Reserves Do you have physical course material that all your students need access to?

How does it work?

• Bring your material to the

library to be put on reserve.

• You decide what checkout

restrictions should apply.

• The material is held behind

the desk in a closed area.

• Students check-out the

material like they would a

typical library item.

Archives and Special Collections

The Archives serves as the most important resource center for the preservation and study of the historical development of Northwest Louisiana and the Ark-La-Tex. Over 60,000 photographs and 350,000 negatives document the visual heritage and history of the area. Other archival material include:

The James Smith Noel Collection was the largest private collection of antiquarian books in the United States prior to its arrival at LSU Shreveport in 1994.

The collection, a large portion of which was printed before 1801, houses several extremely rare titles and is still actively developed with new acquisitions being added regularly.

The collection draws scholars worldwide and encompasses 125 subjects as diverse as natural history, cartography, costumery, the history of humor, moral instruction, and travel literature.

The collection is open year-round and by special arrangement. Faculty wishing to bring classes to the collection should contact Martha Lawler, Cataloguer of the James Smith Noel Collection.
