INTRODUCTION:
In keeping with the Vision and Mission of the Institute, Vijaysinha
Yadav Arts and Science College Library plays a vital role in supporting
teaching and learning activities. Library is meant to help academic community
faculty & students to keep abreast with the latest development in their
respective subjects and to provide information support for research. At the
same time for the students, library is a source to get information support for
their course curriculum as well as for their self-development. Vivekananda
College Library is housed in a three storied building at the hub of the campus.
It has a well-chosen collection of books, journals and e-resources from all
major subject areas. The book collection includes prominent text books,
supplementary reading materials as well as reference books. The library has
been automated using Easy and Useful Integrated Library Automation
Software - user-friendly library package developed by “Vishwajeet Desai and
Company Pvt. Ltd, Kolhapur”. The software facilitates automated circulation
(issue - return) of books and speedy access to bibliographic, location &
availability information of the books. The operations of the library are fully
computerized and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is accessible
in library premises.

WORKING SCHEDULE:
The Library is open 8 hours from Monday to Saturday. The Library remains closed
on all Gazette holidays and Sunday.

LIBRARY COLLECTION
The new Books, New Journals and other reading materials are purchased as per the
demands from the staff, students as per the requirements of syllabi & referring to
catalogues. The library has over the years built a good collection of over 16428 books, 38
CD & Videos, subscribes 48 periodicals & 8 newspapers. All current issues of journals &
magazines are displayed in the Reference & periodical Section.

Library subscribes N-LIST – electronic resource package offered to the colleges by
INFLIBNET. It consists of E –Journals and E-books which can be accessed by the user
community of the college. Through NLIST platform, users can get access to more than
97000+ e-books and 6000 + e-journals using user ID and password. User ID and password
can be collected by contacting the librarian.

college according to library procedures.

TECHNOLOGICAL INFRASTUCTURE :
LIBRARY AUTOMATION:
Library Software : The l ibrary has been automated using Sl im 21 Integrated l ibrary Automation Software - user-fr iendly l ibrary package developed by “Easy and Useful Pvt. Ltd. Kolhapur”. The software facil i tates automated circulat ion ( issue - return) of books and speedy access to bibliographic, location & availabil i ty information of the books. The operations of the l ibrary computerized and the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) is accessible in l ibrary on 24Х 7 basis.
Barcode technology: Bar Code Technology for Issue and Return of Books has been used in l ibrary. All books have been entered in the database and the books are being issued through computer to all registered users.

COMPUTERS AND INTERNET:
Library has 5 computers having 100 mbps band width connectivity & 2 printers for
public access to users. We provide computing, internet facilities to library members free of
charge. Our public computers are connected to the internet and Microsoft Office software is
installed. Most web based email services can be accessed in the library. All our computers
have security and anti-virus software and any device users attach to our computer will
automatically be checked for viruses.
Printers and Scanners: All computers are connected to a printer and printouts are
available in black and white charges apply for this service. Library also have an A4 scanner
which can be used with specified computers; if you need to use the scanner we suggest that
user should ask the library staff to discuss your needs as library cannot guarantee
immediate availability and scanner is not supported on all computers. Anti-virus software is
regularly updated and external devices are virus checked before use.
Photocopier Machine: Black & White copier is available on ground floor. All users can
get this service free of charge. Photocopying service was provided to users for reference
materials like periodicals, reference books, and bound volumes etc. which are available for
reference purpose only.

News & notification display: News related to college, students faculty and parent institute
are displayed on notice board.
Webpage/Sub domain: the library details are provided on college website,
www.vympv.ac.in.

BOOKBANK SERVICE
In addition to the regular library and information services, book bank service is
being provided to ensure essential study materials to all students. The main aim of this
service is to help the needy meritorious students. Book bank scheme is run to help students
belonging to economically and socially weaker sections of the society. Set of books
regarding syllabus are issued to students for the whole Semester and taken back after the
end semester examination is over. In academic year 2015-2016, 732 students got 4274
books in this facility.

REFERENCE SERVICE:
Information requirements of the users are considered satisfactorily through active reference services.
STUDY ROOM SERVICE/ READING ROOM FACILITY :
Separate study rooms are available to girls, boys and faculties.
QUESTIONPAPER ARCHIEVES SERVICE :
Library provides the access of previous years' exam-papers of Shivaji University
examination. Library has made an archive of previous years' exam-papers of (coverage
period: 2008 to till 2015) User can get / access previous years' exam-papers in this archive
by subject name. User can get scanned question papers copy in the USB storage Device.
This service is free for all members of library.
NEWSPAPER CLIPPING SERVICE :
Library provides the newspaper clipping service on news related to college,
university & parent institution. Also provide department related news paper clippings.
REPROGRAPHY SERVICE:
The college library has started Photocopying/ Reprography Unit. Its timings are
9.30 am to 5. pm from Monday to Saturday. The service is for all the faculty members &
staff of college at pay base. Photocopying facility is available to students at reduced rates of
Rs.1 per page throughout the library hours. Reprography service is provided to users for
reference materials like periodicals, reference books, and bound volumes etc. which are
available for reference purpose only.

OPEN ACCESS:
Faculty Members, staff of colleges, and students of final year and P.G. department
shall be allowed to have an open access to the stack room, others may be granted open
access in special cases by the Librarian on his issuing a written pass on every occasion.
INTERNET BROWSING :
Students and faculty members can browse internet for academic purposes from the
library. Library has 3 computers with internet to access e-resources to users.
OPAC:
To see a complete list of books on a particular subject one should look at the library
catalogue. Library catalogue can also be used for checking particular titles by author's
name, key-word or title. Library catalogue is computerized and can be accessed from a
terminal in the library. Assistance in searching the catalogue or locating books is available
from the Help Desk.

USER LIBRARY ORIENTATION :
New entrant users are provided with orientation towards library resources and
services for their better utilization. The library organizes orientation program for the benefit
of new students in the beginning of academic year. They are taken around the library to
familiarize them with various resources and services available for them. Training sessions
are also organized whenever a new product or service is introduced. Any user desiring to
know more about library resources and service or to learn how to use a particular resource
like OPAC, e-journals, databases etc. should contact in charge, of library. Few re-
orientation programs are also conducted to regular users as per the requirement.
LIBRARY MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE COURSE
The col lege l ibrary has run “Library Management Cert if icate
course” under the department of Adult and Continuous Education, Shivaji University,
Kolhapur. Three batches are completed successfully.

INTER-LIBRARY LOAN :
Library offers an Inter-Library Loan service which provides access to material not
held within library while also supplying material from its own stock to other libraries. ILL
services are free to the user for current students, staff, faculty, Library staff go to all
reasonable lengths to obtain materials for users as quickly as possible and will pay
associated fees to lending libraries. It takes an average of 7-10 days for loan materials to
arrive. Journal articles/ book chapters are usually available more quickly.
CURRENTAWARENESS SERVICE &SELECTIVE DESSIMINATION
SERVICE:
The purpose of a current-awareness service is to inform the users about new
acquisitions in the libraries. Library particular have used display boards and shelves to draw
attention to recent additions, library produce complete or selective lists for circulation to
patrons. Library adopted a practice of selective dissemination of information In order to
keep inform users, information about the latest addition of the following are displayed on

� BOOK EXIHIBITION PROGRAMME
The Library Committee plans and oversees a rotating roster of exhibitions in the
Library that showcase Library holdings and collections and/or enhance the cultural and

intellectual life students and faculty members. In particular, Library is committed to
presenting a high-quality exhibitions program that supports the teaching and research
mission of the college. Preference is given to exhibitions that connect to curriculum, faculty
and student research, campus organizations and events, and/or current events. The
Exhibitions Committee is responsible for all exhibitions displayed in the Library and is
chaired by the Events &Exhibitions honorable guests.
� BEST READER AWARD:
Best Library Reader awards were instituted every year to the students who read
books and utilizes other library resources at a maximum in the most effective manner.
The awards are distributed in the Annual Day function every year.

� BOOK REVIEW COMPETITION:
Every year library has organized best book review competition for cultivating
reading habits of students. Along with students, faculty members can also participate in this
competition. The awards for best review are distributed in the Annual Day function every
year.
� EARN AND LEARN SCHEME:
This scheme being implemented by the college enables the society and
economically disadvantaged students to earn small amount of money by working in various
college departments. They are usually absorbed in such areas of activity of the college as
library & administrative office, these scheme help students to get first –hand experience of
varied nature and to develop their personality and communication skills.

Every year at the beginning Vijaywant Mahotsav college library has
organized ‘grath dindi’ to awareness of reading habits in society .

USER EDUCATION/LIBRARY ORIENTATION
As part of our commitment to serve our users in an effective way for supporting their
information and research needs. Library offers for our users to learn more about library and
its resources. User education/Library Orientation is offered through library open tours and
lecture at library hall in the begging of each academic year. User Education instruction take
place in the library. In the library students can experience hands on training with the
library’s touch screen OPAC and library’s numerous collections. Instruction sessions are
held on 2nd floor of the library.

Targeted Audience
Report of Program: The program was inaugurated by Prin. Dr. M. Y.
Bachulakar, in his address he emphasizes the library’s role in supporting teaching
and learning activities of parent institution and expresses his concern about
emergence of new technology in libraries. Librarian Mr. Chavan R. R. has delivered
welcome speech and explained background of the program. He highlighted the
importance of e-resources in academic process. There were 127 participants

participated in said program. Training program intended to create awareness as well
as acquaint the participants with the e-resources available under INFLIBNET N-list
E-resource package. The workshop aims to inspire and motivate the participants to
upgrade their skills in using e-resources. The overall workshop was very informative
and appreciated by participants.

GENERAL LIBRARY RULES:
� Identity Card should be compulsory in the library.
� User has to enter his/her name and put his/her signature in the register kept
for the purpose at the entrance of the library.
� While entering in the library’s main stack room, User should leave their
personal belongings at the property counter. Only loose papers and note
books are allowed inside the stack room.
� Users should maintain silence in the library and should not disturb others in
any way.
� Eating strictly prohibited inside the library.
� Mobile phones are not permitted to use inside the library.
� Users are not allowed to write anything and otherwise defacing table tops,
walls or other surfaces.
� Users must not use any part of the Library for any kind of organized
gathering.
� If User found guilty of misconduct with library staff will be referred to
Principal/ Librarian for disciplinary action.
CIRCULATION DESK RULES:
� Books can be borrowed against library membership card/ID card issued by
library to the borrowers.
� The library membership card is non-transferable and their loss should be
immediately reported to the library.
� The borrower is responsible for any book issued against the library
membership card, as per the library records.
� Books shall be re-issued to the same borrower at once only. But, if there is a
demand for the book, the request for renewal may be turned down by the
library.
� The librarian can recall books and publications at any time, if need arises.
� Over dues charges shall be charged from the students if they fail to return
the book(s) on or before the due date as indicated on the Due-Date-Slip in
the book:

� A book lost by the user shall be replaced either with latest edition or the
double price shall be charged.
Rules for Book Banks Facilities
� The Book will be given to the students of all the categories on the basis of the
first come first serve.
� Depending upon the availability of the sets of books the priority will be given
to the students whose parent’s income is lowest.
� All students who are availing the facility must ensure retuning the entire set of
books provided to them after completion of their final examination in the
concerned Semester.
� If any student availing the facility loses the book / damages the book /
disfigures the books he / she shall replace the Volume(s) with new book (or
pay the current cost of the book plus fine, if any, as may be directed by
authority).
Internet Usage Rules:
� User must use the computers and network in a responsible manner.
� Users must use the computers only for academic purpose. Accessing to
Social networking site like facebook, Gmail chat etc are not allowed.
� Computer and network use will be monitored. If user fail to comply with
these standards, library staff will terminate his/her session.
� User must not knowingly violate the security of the network, introduce or
transmit a virus or contravene licensing agreements or copyright law.
� Users must refrain from using, transmitting or downloading material which
is pornographic, obscene, racist, defamatory, illegal or offensive to others.
� When using Library’s equipment and software you must not interfere with
the equipment or software, introduce or download other software, or connect
any external devices without seeking permission.
� Downloading software to the hard drive is not permitted.

� Due to the public nature of these facilities, users visiting web sites that
request that the user save their settings/details/credentials should elect NOT
to save such details on library computers. To do so puts your privacy at risk
� Library makes every effort to ensure that its public computing facilities are
safe and free from malware and viruses. However, due to the public nature
of these facilities, members of Library computers at their own risk.
Reference and Periodical Section Rules :
� Identity Card should be compulsory.

� Reference Documents like Dictionary, Encyclopedia, Year Books, Journals
(Bound), Project Reports, Handbooks will not be issued out.
� Reference Documents may be issued classroom use upon the request of a
faculty member, but shall be returned within a day.
� Periodicals shall be for reference section use only. However, users may
borrow a periodical, other than the latest issue for a period of not more than
one (1) week.
� Maintain silence and should not disturb other users in any way.
