Located on the Paranagua Bay at the foot of the Serra do Mar, it is just 29 kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean. Task The Port of Paranagua is Brazil’s most important port for the export of agricultural commodities. The Port is the biggest exporter of soy beans in Latin America and it is Brazil’s largest port for shipment of grains and the second biggest maritime terminal. Solution In 2008, the first LHM 280 was delivered to the grain hand- ling company Fortesolo for its operations in Paranagua, Brazil. With the design of the LHM lightweight series, Liebherr provi- des a comprehensive solution to the customers utilizing market leading technology that leverages effectiveness with regards to reliability, economy and performance. Performance Handed over on the 1st September 2008, this crane had already worked more than 2800 operation hours by the end of June 2009, this equates an average of 9.35 hours a day. The crane is mainly used for handling fertilizers with a density between 0.8-1.4 t/m³. Equipped with a 20m³ grab the LHM 280 is consistently achiev- ing up to 40 cycles per hour.
