I was listening to a couple of workman talking as they worked the other day. This line came to my ears as I listened: “Of all the years I worked for ‘so and so’ I only heard him say “good job” 3 times. Three times!” The conversation went on to oth- er things, but I was left pondering the importance of saying “good job” to people who are, well, doing a good job. Sandy and I were recently blessed during the month of October by a lot of people who came up to us and said, in various ways, “good job”. That was greatly encouraging for both of us and we appreciated it immensely. I began to contemplate all the servants of the Lord here at Lewis Lake and what a good job everyone is doing. As we get ready to move into another winter season we find ourselves in a really great place. Though not everything is completed with our new building, yet it is up and running and a whole lot of people have been doing a very good job, over and above the call of duty, to enable that to happen. Furthermore, I want to say “good job” to everyone involved in worship as we try to figure out logistical problems and discover new ways of helping worship services to happen well. From all of those who help set up the tables, organize our materi- als, play the instruments, make the video stuff work, as well as the sound system, to those who make coffee and teach classes, serve communion and help with the of- ferings, we recognize that this is so important and we see what a great job you are doing! We have leaders in our Church, as well, who are doing a great and wonderful job helping us navigate change, listen to God’s leading, hammer out details, and make our way into the future. We have leaders who are helping Bible Studies and min- istry teams and service projects to happen in wonderful ways. The next group that came to my mind were all the people who take an active role in caring for others who are in a challenging place in life. You are doing a great job of making calls, making visits, sending cards, checking in on people and prov- ing a listening ear. A Good Work Has Begun … It Is Up To US To Keep It Going

All are welcome to pray for Pastor Bob, as well as anyone filling in for him in the

pulpit, every Sunday morning at 8:30. This tradition was resurrected by Shannon

Rolf and it is up to US the congregation, to keep it going. Those who make it a hab-

it are asked to initiate when Shannon cannot be here. That way, the tradition will

continue into the future and well beyond our own time here :)

Network?

There is no doubt but that we are called and gifted by God. He created each of us unique-

ly to do something no one else can do the way we are designed to do it.

To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. I Corinthians 12:7

Pastor Bob paraphrases it thusly:

We Are Gathered, Gifted, On A Mission … Super Heroes!

LAF—Life After Fifty @ Lewis Lake

The goal in ministry to those in the 50 & Better age group is to provide opportunities for

fellowship, spiritual growth and service.

Social Events ~ To help 50 & Betters connect with each other

Service Opportunities ~ To help 50 & Betters feel a sense of purpose

Spiritual Activities ~ To help 50 & Betters grow in their relationship to God

To that end the following activities were placed on the calendar:

1. November 10th—Ronald McDonald House Cooks For Kids Service Project

Our volunteers are ready and eager to serve a home cooked meal to families away

from home and facing challenging health issues in the lives of their children.

2. December 7th—Advent Luncheon & White Elephant Exchange

DO YOU HAVE SOMETHING YOU REALLY WANT TO GET RID OF but have never

tossed or donated it? THAT IS A WHITE ELEPHANT GIFT! So dig it out and dust it off

… or not. Bring it to the luncheon in an unmarked bag and enjoy the many laughs

in the opening

The luncheon is a “catered” meal for which there will be a free will offering.

Christmas hymns, songs, along with shared stories and memories.

The 50 & Better Caregivers Team needs you, the congregation to be eyes and

ears for needs and ideas for caregiving. Any suggestions for Social, Service, or Spiritual

activities may be directed at one of the Team members: Earl & Phyllis Bracewell, Butch &

Marilyn Bachman, Shirley Ericson, Gordy Vickstrom, Doris Monson, Michelle Seefeld, Betty

Kilian, Pastor Bob.

A Prayer Ministry has found its way under the umbrella of the Caregivers. If you are interested

in being part of that sub Team, contact Shannon Rolf, 612-390-0419

The Team is currently seeking ideas for the season of Advent events that would encom-

pass all generations in preparation for Christmas.

David was just not able to let go.

Page 8 Lewis Lake News

Thinking God’s Thoughts

A Bible Reading Discipline For 2016!

October 15, 2016 ~ I Kings 2:5-9

David had been living with a lot of old wounds, things done to him or to those he loved by various individuals still alive. These old wounds were things that David had tried to let pass, extending promises that he would not take revenge on these people, but now, in his old age, he finds them quite present in his heart. And so he exhorts his son, Solomon, to bring punishment on these people after David has died. David was just not able to let go. The matter of forgiving people, as Jesus has exhorted us to do, especially within the Church family, is one of the most challenging and difficult things to do for some people. It seems as though the personality is one of the determining fac-tors, as we see some people able to forgive quite easily, while others, like our king David here, just can’t seem to get over the hump. Yet the Gospel that we embrace must make a difference in all of our relationships. The Gospel is something that can move a person to take the very real hurts and injustices of daily life and enable us to extend a forgiveness that disconnects us from these old hurts and frees us to be in relationship with the ones who have done these things. If the Gos-pel does not work in the lives of the people who embrace it, than what good is it? But the Gospel only works when we combine it with a deep and powerful relationship with the God who gives it to us. David is a very difficult example for us today, for he was the man after God’s own heart, and yet he struggled in this area as well as in others. Being involved in a church or in some Christian ministry is not the same as being in deep unity with the Savior himself. We must let Christ touch us deeply so that we truly embrace the Gospel in a way that makes for-giveness possible in all our relationships.

And who can forget about those cleaners? I am talking about the people who wash dishes, and gather up garbage, and wash nursery toys, and haul away the recycling. There are many of you who just love to see things neat and clean and put together. And you can’t re-ally stop yourselves from chasing after this sort of work. In close connection with this group are those people who have an eye for maintenance. If something is broken or in need of attention, you make a note of it, and soon you are working on making that thing right again,

up to date and fully functioning. What a good job you are doing.

There is one group of people who are doing an especially great job here at Lewis Lake, though you will rarely catch them at their work. They are in their closets, doing their work with the door closed. I am talking about the pray-ers! I know there are so many people praying for all the needs of the Lewis Lake Church. And we see, feel, and experience the blessings that flow out of heaven down to us in direct response to the prayers that these peo-ple are lifting up on a regular basis. I don’t mean to convey the idea that only some people are prayers, for we all are called to this important work. But some people truly have this

ministry focus in their hearts and you are doing a great, great job.

Well, we could go on and on, talking, for example, about what a great job those people are doing who love and bless our children and youth here at Lewis Lake. You are the ones of whom it is said in the scriptures “the world was not worthy of them”! Added to that is the absolutely amazing way that everyone here is giving for the work of the Kingdom, through the general offerings, the building fund giving, and all the special offerings that we share in

as we go about ministry in this community. What a great job of giving you are doing!

It is easy, in the pull and tug of our daily work together, to just move on to the next thing without saying “good job”. So, for whatever you are doing here at Lewis Lake, and for simply being part of our congregation, we say to you “good job”. God is using you to do

great and wonderful things both in this local community and in the world.

Lewis Lake Church Life ~ November 2016

If I were your enemy, I’d work to create division between you

and other Christians, between groups of Christians, anyone with

the potential for uniting in battle against me and my plans. I’d

keep you operating individually, not seeing your need for the

church or tying yourself too closely to its mission. Strength in num-

go unchecked. Priscilla Shirer Fervent
