Make a 4” square using the four 3 ⅝” pieces. To join pieces of wood together use a green triangle or gusset and a small amount of wood glue. Use four

corner triangles or gussets on one side of the square only. Note the alignment of the pieces to form a square

Turn the square over and glue, into opposite corners, the small pieces that are cut at 60˚ and drilled with a hole in their center. Use a small amount of wood

glue on the 60˚ends

Glue two green gusset corners onto each of the 60˚ pieces as shown (on one piece) below.

On the other side of the same square glue a gusset on each of the four corners. Once dry glue the large wheel with only one hole onto a corner. Ensure that the smooth

side of the wheel faces up. Use a length of dowel to ensure that the hole of the wheel aligns with the hole in the 60˚ piece below it. Remove the dowel once the glue is dry

Glue a 1” axle in the center hole of a smaller wheel. The axle will protrude from the smoother side of the wheel. Then glue the second smaller wheel

exactly onto the other side of the first.

Place the smaller wheels onto the piece of green cardboard and cut out its circular shape. Glue the cardboard circle to the smaller wheels

Glue a 1½”dowel into the center hole of the 11” beam, and the ⅝” dowel into the hole closest to it. Both point in the same direction. Then glue three 1½” dowels into the three holes at one end of the beam so they also point in the

same direction (see below). Finally glue the last two 1½” dowels into the remaining holes of the beam so that they point in the opposite direction

Place a small amount of glue on the beam and then push the larger wheel with two holes drilled in it onto it as shown below. The rougher side of the wheel is glued to the beam. The dowel in the center and the small dowel next to it will align with holes drilled in the wheel. Clean up any excess glue especially from

the smooth side of the wheel.

Peel off the backing from the syringe holder and firmly push it onto the centre small wheel arrangement, as shown below

Glue the 4”square with the wheel in its corner onto the square already mounted on the base

Once the glue is dry the Rig can be assembled. The beam and larger wheel arrangement is mounted onto the large wheel glued to the base. The smaller wheel arrangement with the syringe holder is mounted in the opposite corner

(as below). For clarity the base is not shown.

Identify the syringe that has a hole in its plunger. Push the plunger with the hole in it onto one of the two dowels at one end.

Push the plunger in as far as it goes and the place the syringe barrel carefully into the clip so that its lip butts up to the edge of the small wheels. Attach the tubing to the syringe and the other syringe to the other end of the tubing. This other syringe should be fully open before it is attached. When it is closed the

plunger of the mounted syringe opens and the arm rotates

Insert the 2¾” length of ⅞” dowel into the ⅞” hole on the base. When the mounted syringe is closed the arm is in a position where the hook of the spring force-meter may be “hooked” around one of three dowels at the opposite end of the beam. Use the 10N meter for the syringe acting pneumatically (air) and

the 30N meter when acting hydraulically (water).
