KPclub hosted Seafood Dinner On the evening of Saturday, January 18, the KP Club hosted a seafood dinner at the Clubhouse. About 25 people enjoyed this neighborhood get together. On the menu was crab stuffed oysters, raw oysters, grilled scallop kabobs, steamed clams, fried rockfish (known to this Massachusetts guy as Striped Bass...), and all the fixings. By the end of the evening it was agreed that this will become an annual tradition. Thanks auto Heather Fleming, Karl Kronlein, JD Reeves, and Norman Elton for their help, and thanks for everyone for coming out! - Eric Hilton

Kingspoint Neighbors Helping Neighbors Program Since the original “Neighbor to Neighbor” program was started in 2010, the program has lost many original members and organizers. The KP Women’s Club has recently focused on how we might kick start a less complex effort to help others in our neighborhood, as needed. The Women’s Club discussed spearheading a program to support our neighbors who might be in need of assistance and matching those needs to a volunteer. While Kingspoint is an exceptionally friendly and supportive community, this effort is designed to build on this culture and to ensure that no one’s needs are overlooked.

This might include such services as:

• Picking up groceries and sundries

• Staying with a loved one as a companion so the caregiver can leave for appointments or meetings. This might include a disabled child or adult.

• Phone calls to check-in to be sure all is OK

• Transportation to doctor appointments or other ventures

• Jump a battery or suggest various other service providers (a plumber or electrician)

If you are interested in participating in this effort by volunteering, please email Denise Koch [email protected] or call 757-870-

0900

If you are interested in getting assistance in any of these areas, please email Denise Koch [email protected] or call 757-870-0900

In addition, a list of resources for finding such services from other places is being compiled, as well as web sites and phone numbers for

ordering or delivered food & groceries.

These include:

• Faith in Action

• Meals on Wheels

• Grocery ordering/delivery options

• Prepared food delivery options (restaurants, etc.)

• Riverside “Choose Home”

• Home Instead caregivers

• Comfort Keepers caregivers

• Private caregivers

As some residents in need may be hesitant to reach out for help, it is suggested that neighbors be alert to such situations and be proactive by

contacting someone whom they think might need assistance. If they do, either person can then coordinate with Denise Koch to get paired with someone who can offer the necessary service.

FACEBOOK PAGE Kingspoint neighborhood has its own Facebook page to add info, photos, items for sale, invite neighbors to a last minute movie or bbq, post last minute updates for swim meets, cancellations, etc. This page is a "Closed Group", so you will have to "request" to be added (this prevents just anyone from joining the group and posting spam). But all residents are encouraged to request an invite!

Here is how you do this:

Type in the following URL address https://www.facebook.com/groups/2118520156 32122/ It will say it's a closed group, and then in the upper right corner, under the photo, you click on ‘JOIN GROUP’. The Admin for the group will approve all KP residents!

LITTLE DOLPHINS Looking to connect with other parents in the neighborhood? Consider joining the “Little Dolphins” Facebook page. It’s a network of parents in the neighborhood with kids ranging from babies to teenagers. (Just search for "Little Dolphins Kingspoint" on Facebook). It’s a nice way to meet parents in the neighborhood with similarly aged kids. If you aren’t on Facebook, or if you are having problems joining the group, email Tracy Sohoni, [email protected]

PUBLISHING IN THE CRIER If you have an event to share with the Kingspoint community or some news to report that you would like to see posted in the Kingspoint Crier, please send your contributions to [email protected] before the 20th of the month. The editors reserve the right to refuse and edit any submissions.

Kingspoint Neighborhood Association News I hope you and your family enjoyed the beautiful holiday decorations throughout Kingspoint as much as we did this year. Many thanks to everyone who brought light into the winter darkness and shared your festive spirit with neighbors throughout the holidays.

Yuko Sato constructed the stunning evergreen holiday arrangements on our sign again this year. We all appreciate her talents and willingness to continue this beautiful Kingspoint tradition. Many thanks also to those families who shared evergreens from their gardens, to Pinkie Ford for providing space to construct the arrangements, and to Mitch and Dorsey Kappesser for their assistance in transporting the arrangements and placing them on our Kingspoint sign. We all enjoyed the beauty

resulting from this terrific teamwork!

There are a few packs of notecards, with a photo of our 2019 entrance decorations, available for those who may still want some. Please contact me if you are interested.

Although we’ve enjoyed a mild January, long-time Williamsburg residents know that snowy weather may still find us in February or March. We request everyone's cooperation in keeping Kingspoint streets free of parked cars when it snows. We always hope that VDOT will spread sand and plow our community, and they will do a better job for us all if they don’t have to work around parked cars.

Kenita Hill is finishing up revisions to our 2020 Kingspoint Neighborhood Directory, which we plan to distribute to every home by late February. Please look over your own listing in the 2019 Directory and contact her by February 8 with any corrections to your personal information.

We publish the Directory in hard copy, and distribute only to neighborhood residents, to protect neighbors' privacy. We will publish neighborhood maps again this year.

We always welcome new volunteers. If you have time to share,

please reach out to me, or any member of the KPNA Board, and tell us how you would like to help. We have several volunteer positions to fill in the coming months.

Please visit our KPNA website for the January Plant of the Month, news and useful community links, regular updates and a link to the digital Crier.

Best wishes to all for a happy and joyous new year, from your Kingspoint Neighborhood Association!

New Neighbors, Welcome!

Several new families have moved into Kingspoint in recent weeks.

Tripp and Stephanie White recently moved to Williamsburg from San Diego, CA. Stephanie grew up in Williamsburg and graduated from Auburn University. Tripp is from Atlanta, GA and graduated from Ole Miss. Tripp and Stephanie met in Nashville, TN in 2012 and have been married for 3 years. They have a Great Dane named Moose and Golden Retriever named Stella. The two moved to the area due to Tripp’s job with Branscome. Stephanie is soon to graduate with her PhD in Clinical Counseling and is a therapist at Williamsburg Counseling. Tripp and Stephanie have settled into their new home at 101 Wakerobin Road.

Jay and Joan Feldman are still moving into their new home at 101 Northpoint Drive. Jay and Joan are moving to Williamsburg after residing in Florida for the last 24 years. Jay is in Commercial HVAC sales and Joan is a certified Yoga instructor. They have a 3- year old Portuguese Water Dog named Cole. They have chosen the Williamsburg area because of the educational classes at W & M , boating on the two rivers and the overall beauty in the area.

Please extend a warm hand of friendship to our newest neighbors as they find their way around the community.

If you are new to Kingspoint and haven’t yet been greeted with a neighborhood directory, please send me a message at [email protected], and we’ll deliver one to you.

We publish the Directory in hard copy, and distribute only to neighborhood residents, to protect neighbors' privacy. Watch for your new 2020 Kingspoint Directory to arrive in late February.
