When springtime comes, it
isn’t just the
chronologically young who
get spring fever. Seniors,
who can be downright
young at heart, also want
and need to go outside and
enjoy the warmth,
sunshine, and amazing
scents that spring heralds
in for all of us to enjoy.
There are many activities
senior citizens can enjoy
outdoors that are fulfilling
while not being too
physically demanding.
Gardening: Windowsill
plants of various herbs and
flowers can provide some
pleasant indoor activity and
make the environment
pretty. Pansies and
marigolds can grow well in
a sunny window.
Kite Flying: Kite flying
isn’t just for kids. This
lighthearted activity is
wonderful for groups of

Grandma Glo’s Joke Corner:Grandma Glo’s Joke Corner:Grandma Glo’s Joke Corner:Grandma Glo’s Joke Corner: 600 Story Hotel Tom, Dick and Harry went to a
party. After the party, they returned
to their hotel. The hotel was 600
stories high. Unfortunately for
them, the elevator was not working.
They made a plan. For the first 200
stories, Tom would crack jokes.
The second 200 stories, Dick would
tell a happy story. And the last,
Harry would tell a sad story. They
then started up the steps.
After two hours, it was Harry's turn.
He turned to the other two and said,
"Okay, guys, here is my sad story. I
left the keys downstairs."
Jury Duty Just as she was celebrating her 80th
birthday, our friend received a jury-
duty notice. She called the clerk’s
office to remind them that she was
exempt because of her age.
"You need to come in and fill out
the exemption forms," the clerk said.
"But I filled them out last year," she
replied.
"You have to fill them out every
year."
"Why? Do you think I’m getting
younger?"
Full Full Full Full Pink Pink Pink Pink MoonMoonMoonMoon The full pink moon occurs on April 29th. Herb moss pink,
or wild ground phlox, is one of the earliest wildflowers to
bloom during this time of year. As the name infers, the
flowers are pink in color, thus the name for April’s full
moon. Other names sometimes used are full sprouting grass
moon and egg moon.

April Fools’ Day: The History April Fools’ Day
happens on the first day
of April every year. This
April Fools’ Day is also
Easter Sunday so expect
the unexpected! Maybe
Santa Claus will bring
the Easter Baskets
Do you know why we
play tricks, gags and
jokes on one another?
April Fools’ Day is about
more than playing jokes
even though it’s the most
fun part of the day!
The History In the 16th century,
France celebrated New
Year just like we do
today, except they partied
on April 1st. In 1562,
Pope Gregory changed
the calendar to the one
we use today and from
then on the New Year
began on January 1st.
Lots of peeps didn’t
know about the new
calendar, or they ignored
the new calendar and
kept celebrating on April
1st. Everyone else called
them April fools and
played tricks on them.
April Fools’ practical
jokes should be done in
good fun and not meant
to harm anyone. The best
jokes are the clever ones
where everyone laughs,
especially the person
who had the joke played
on them.
April Fools’ Day Prank As well as people
playing pranks on one
another on April Fools’
Day, elaborate practical
jokes have appeared on
radio and TV stations,
newspapers, websites, and
have been performed by
large corporations. In one
famous prank from 1957,
the BBC broadcast a film
in their Panorama current
affairs series purporting to
show Swiss farmers
picking freshly-grown
spaghetti, in what they
called the Swiss Spaghetti
Harvest. The BBC were
later flooded with requests
to purchase a spaghetti
plant, forcing them to
declare the film a hoax on
the news the next day.
This year lets have some
fun with April Fools’ Day.

Columbian dance
instructor Alberto
“Beto” Perex brought
Zumba to the United
States in 1999. Since
then, it has grown into
one of the most
popular dance-based
exercise programs in
the world. Originally
performed to Latin
music, Zumba has
evolved to include
jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, and
even rap. “Ditch the
Workout! Join the
Party!” is the
marketing slogan for
Zumba fitness, with
the goal of making
exercise fun. In 2010,
classes for seniors
were started. Zumba
Gold teaches
participants modified
versions of the original
Zumba dance steps,
while paying attention
to the special needs
that seniors bring to
fitness. Zumba chair
exercises, are a
specialty of Zumba
Gold, now offered to
those with various
physical limitations
that make standing
difficult. Chair classes
usually last 20 to 30
minutes, so
participants still get a
good workout.
Spring is the perfect
season to start a new
exercise routine.
Lake Shore offers
ZUMBA GOLD

Nancy was born May 3,1946 in
Flushing, NY. Her parents were
Emma and Stanley. She is the
oldest of 3 girls. Kathy is 2 years
younger and Bette is 7 years
younger.
Her father passed away when he
was only 44 years old. Her mother
had to work to support her girls.
The family moved to Bayside, NY
after her mother remarried.
Nancy married Anthony Capaldo
when she was 20 years old. Nancy
moved to the Bronx near her
husband's family. She gave birth
to 3 sons, Anthony, Scott and
Daniel.
Nancy's husband passed away
when he was only 39 years old.
Like her mother, Nancy had to
work hard to support her young
children.
Nancy was employed at Flushing
Hospital at the switchboard. She
went on to work at the hospital for
over 30 years. Even after her
retirement she worked per diem.
She was very dedicated to her
job. She was well loved by her
co-workers and friends.
Recently, Nancy moved to PA to
live with her son Daniel and his
family. Although she loved being
with them, she was lonely and
isolated in the farmland. She was
longing to be more active.
She is the perfect fit for Lake
Shore. She has integrated into the
community very well. She has
friends to talk to and activities to
do. She is happy. Nancy feels so
much better thanks to the
wonderful staff and residents at
Lake Shore.
