Ballast resistor - controls the currentflow to the coil during normaloperation. The resistor reduces thevoltage available to the coil at low atlow engine speeds. It increases thevoltage at higher rpm when thevoltage requirement increases.

Ignition coil - Converts 12v batteryvoltage to thousands of volts enoughto give a powerful spark.

Breaker points/Contact points -Used to close or open the primarycircuit. As the distributor shaft rotates,it also causes a distributor cam torotate. The distributor cam causes asmall set of points to open and closeat each cam lobe position. When thepoints are closed. The current flow inthe primary circuit causes themagnetic field to build up in the coil.

Distributor- are used to distribute thesurges of high voltage available to the

coil tower.
