YEAR 5Theme: World of StoriesTopic: A lesson for a crabFocus : ReadingContent Standard: 2.2, 2.3Learning Standards: 2.3.1, 2.2.3 (a), 2.2.4(a)Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to(i) read and enjoy the story (shared reading).(ii) read the story with correct stress, rhythm and intonation.(iii) locate the meanings of the words from dictionary and complete the table.(iv) rearrange sentence strips in the correct story sequence.

Time: 60 minutesTeaching Aids: Dictionary, story text (CD), sentence stripsAdded Values: Thinking skillsSteps:Pre-Reading:1. Teacher recaps what was taught in the previous lesson.2. Teacher plays the CD, teacher and pupils read the story A lesson for a crab aloud.

While-Reading:Activity 13. Get pupils to read the story independently.4. Teacher gets pupils to find the meaning of the difficult words in their dictionaries and match.5. Give feedback and check on pupils pronunciation of words.

Activity 26. Get pupils into groups of 4 to rearrange the sentence strips in the correct sequence.(Tasksheet 2)7. Pupils present their answers in front of the class.

Post-Reading8. In groups, get pupils to choose one character from the story and write sentences aboutthe character learned in Activity 1.

Next, distribute pieces of paper. Pupils name the pictures.2. Get pupils to pick any picture randomly. 3. Elicit response from pupils about the picture.4. Distribute jumbled phrases. Pupils arrange them.5. Arrange the strips together and read the story in groups. 6. Distribute worksheets. Pupils complete them. Assessment: Able to write the story using simple or compound sentences. Remedial: Pupils are able to rearrange sentences correctly to form the story learnt.
