DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES [WHO (S/Obj), WHICH (S/Obj), WHOSE, WHERE]

I. WARM UP: introduction of name and self-expression (Sống nội tâm, yêu màu tím, thích hoa Bất tử,

ghét giả dối, tôn thờ sự thủy chung)

II. LEAD–IN:

T: what kinds of jobs do children often want to do when they grow up?

T elicits policeman, football player, movie star, doctor, singer, lawyer, dentist, actor, steward

III. DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES

III.1 Explain the relative pronouns: (Ex. 2)

T: ask & answer to elicit pairs of sentences first (1-6), then add the correct relative pronouns.

3.3 EXERCISE 3: ASK SS TO COMPLETE THE TEXT WITH CORRECT RELATIVE PRONOUNS.

THEY ALSO NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WORDS AFTER THE GAP (Esp. gap 4 & 7)

3.4 EXERCISE 4 - SPEAKING: ASK SS TO ASK AND ANSWER THE TWO QUESTIONS IN PAIRS.

THEN ASK A FEW COUPLES TO STAGE TO PRESENT

3.5 EXERCISE 7: LOOK BACK TO THE EXAMPLES OF SECTION 3.1, EXPLAIN THE PLACE OF

RELATIVE CLAUSES (AT THE END OF THE SENTENCE OR IN THE MIDDLE) ASK SS TO

LOOK BACK AT EX. 1 & 3 TO SEE THE PLACE OF THE RELATIVE CLAUSES.

3.6 EXERCISE 6: LOOK BACK TO THE EXAMPLES OF SECTION 3.1 AND EXPLAIN THAT WE

CAN REPLACE “WHICH/WHO” WITH “THAT”. LET SS REPLACE “THAT” IN EX. 5.

3.7 EXERCISE 8: ASK SS TO TAKE TURN TO DEFINE THE WORDS

1. BUILDING SITE: it’s a place where contractors build something

2. A CIVIL SERVANT: It’s a person who works in a government

3. A COMPUTER: it’s a electronic machine that can store, organize and be used to surf the internet

4. A CUSTOMER: it’s a person who buys something from a shop

5. AN ELECTRICIAN: It’s a person whose job is to repair the electric equipment

6. A HOTEL: it’s a building where people stay for short time and pay for their bill

7. A NURSE: it’s a person whose job is to take care of patients

8. MANUAL WORK: it’s work which requires us to use hands and physical strength

9. PART-TIME JOB: it’s a job which you do only for a certain time of a day or a week

10. SALARY: it’s the money that workers receive for doing their jobs

11. SHIFT WORK: it’s work which requires your working hours are not always the same.
