How many people are there on the internet?
Do you think that all of the people on the internet can be trusted?
How would you feel if you knew that some of them want to hurt young people?
The next stage of the lesson is to watch the animated �lm. Only push enter / play animation when you feel that the group have answered all the questions and are
ready to move on.
Select Lesson 1 from the DVD menu. The title screen will play. On the white screen read aloud the lesson statement and press
enter on your DVD remote. The warm up page will appear.
Warm UpAsk the class the following questions; for each, invite several answers before moving
on to the next. Each question is also on the DVD screen.
Watch the animation on the screen.
The animation will automatically play and upon completion the DVD will advance itself to the next section.

Why Online Exploitation?
Easy to conceal identity!
Contact with young people without parents, teachers, friends or carers noticing!
Easy to meet young people in chat rooms!
Harder for young people to draw boundaries online!
Daily contact possible online!
Online predators don’t have to meet victims to abuse them!
The internet is unfortunately an ideal medium for the the perpetration of online exploitation, because it o�ers:

Advance the DVD to the Group Activities Page. Split the class into small groups. Guide the class through the following three exercises and allow the groups to
discuss. 15 minutes is recommended for each exercise.
Question 1:“Think about things from Rukhsana’s point of view. Explore how Rukhsana is leaving herself open to exploitation and what sort of exploitation – this could be identity theft, grooming, etc.”
