Now the Coordinator assigns each of the pictures traits/qualities, both negative and positive. Once again the students are asked who they would like to befriend. This is repeated a few times with different negative/positive traits. 6. Play the song. 7. Discuss the song. 8. Sing each line and ask them to repeat. 9. Make the students enact the song. 10. Play the song and ask the students to sing along. Repeat this step as needed. 11. Randomly sing few lines and see whether the students are able to complete the lines. 12. OBJECTIVES:

OBJECTIVES: 1. Students will understand the concepts of strengths, struggles and self-belief. 2. Students will be able to articulate the self-belief.

KEY VOCABULARY: Strengths and Struggles MAIN IDEA: Everyone is a hero. MATERIALS:

1. Music System 2. Hand-outs 3. The Woman with Half a Body-My Shocking Story-Video Clip

PROCEDURE:

1. Discuss with the students that strength is something one is really good at and might be able to use to help someone else and struggle is something one has a hard time with and might need help from someone else. 2. Ask the students to write their strengths and struggles in the hand-out, “Sometimes I help and sometimes I need help. “Students will draw a picture in each box too. 3. Discuss with the students universality of strengths and struggles. 4. Ask the students to describe their real-life ‘hero’ with supporting reasons. 5. Ask the students to ponder on how to inculcate those qualities in them. 6. Ask the students to make a Pledge to Self for selecting and inculcating one of those qualities. 7. Play the song. 8. Discuss the song. 9. Sing each line and ask them to repeat. 10. Make the students enact the song.

SONG 2: HEAL THE WORLD

LEVEL: BEGINNERS

OBJECTIVES:

1. Students will learn the essence of the song. 2. Students will discuss their real and dream world.

MAIN IDEA: We can make our world fairer. KEY WORDS: Real and Dream World MATERIALS: 1. Music System 2. Hand-outs 3. Treats

PROCEDURE:

1. (i) Explain to the students that they will be participating in a simulation-a game that will imitate something that happened in real life. (ii) Tell them that during the simulation not everything will be fair, but after the simulation not everything will be fair, but after the simulation they will all be treated fairly. (iii) Give out the “treat” to only the students who share a certain characteristic. Tell them the characteristic. For example, “All of the students wearing blue jeans get a treat today.” (iv) Listen to their reactions. Some students may get very upset. Encourage those students to share their feelings by restating their feelings:” You seem pretty angry about this. ”You think it isn’t fair.” ”You think treats shouldn’t be given for the clothed someone is wearing.

PROCEDURE:

1. Ask the students to listen to the song. 2. Discuss the song. 3. Sing each line and ask them to repeat. 4. Make the students to enact the song. 5. Play the song and ask them to sing along. Repeat this step as needed. 6. Randomly sing few lines and let the students to complete the lines.

7. Play the karaoke and let students sing. 8. Ask the students to draw/talk about their rights and responsibilities at home, in the centre, in their neighbourhood/society/country/world. 9. Ask the students to think of these rights in the context of their real life. 10. Ask the students to discuss some scenarios of violation of rights and possible solutions/recourses. 11. PROCEDURE:

1. Discuss the theme of the song and vocabulary (refer to Appendix 1). 2. Discuss with the students that ups and downs are part and parcel of life and in moments of despair one should never lose hope. 3. Ask the students what they would do if their friend is unhappy. 4. Distribute the handouts to the students and ask them to answer the following questions (i) What did you understand from the title? (ii) Why do we call it circle of life and not square of life? (ii)Share with us a moment when you consoled your friend/family member and instilled faith in them. 5. Play the song. 6. Discuss the song. 7. Sing each line and ask the students to repeat. 8. Make the students enact the song. 9. Play the song and ask the students to sing along. Repeat this step as needed.
