Lesson 1 - Celebrations Introduction: We all take part in celebrations throughout our lives. This could be celebrations for us for example on our Birthday, or it could be that we have been to a celebration for someone else. This could be a religious celebration such as attending some else’s wedding or celebrating someone’s achievements such as passing exams. When we talk about celebrations these can be divided into religious celebrations or secular celebrations (not religious). Equipment: Pen Paper Worksheets Instructions: Activity 1 Have a look at the pictures to see if you can recognise which celebrations are Religious and which are Secular Activity 2 With an adult, think about a time when you took part in a celebration and answer the questions. Activity 3 We’re going to look at special occasions in our family and think about why we do them. Make sure you answer in full sentences and check your spelling and punctuation. Once you have answered the questions try to think of some secular and religious celebrations. Activity 4 Your task is to research a specific celebration and answer the questions in the table. Lesson 2 - Summer Solstice Introduction: In this lesson you will be reading information about the Solstice. Once you have read the information then there are some questions you need to answer. Equipment:

• Worksheets

Instructions: Activity 1 Have a go at practising these high frequency words. Activity 2 Read about the Summer Solstice and have a go at the questions. Activity 3 If you are feeling more confident, there is more information to read for activity 3 and the questions are more challenging. Have a go!

Activity 1 Before you start to read about the Summer Solstice why not practice these high frequency words. Tick those words that you get correct. Remember to practice your letter sounds.

Activity 2 Read the information about the Summer Solstice to an adult. Talk about what you have read and then have a go at completing the questions.

Activity 3 Read the information about the Summer Solstice (there is more information than in activity 2), then answer the questions.

Lesson 3 - Personal Pronouns Introduction: In this lesson you are going to work on your cursive writing and pronouns so that we can improve our sentences. Equipment:

• Worksheets Instructions: Activity 1 Have a go at practising some more high frequency words and then write a sentence. Activity 2 Can you choose the correct personal pronoun to fit the sentence? Is it I or me? Activity 3 This time can you rewrite each sentence using a personal pronoun?

Lesson 4 - More Pronouns! Introduction: In this lesson you will continue to develop your understanding and use of pronouns. Before you start the activities have a look at the twelve personal pronouns for people and things. Read them and then cover them over. How many can you remember? Keep trying until you can remember all twelve. Then see if you can write them down but before that why not first practice your writing by completing activity 1!

Activity 1 Before you practice your writing warm-up your fingers and improve your pencil control by completing the activities. Then practise some more high frequency words. Activity 2 Can you remember the difference between a noun and a pronoun? Circle all the pronouns and underline any nouns. Activity 3 Each of the sentences has used a noun followed by a pronoun. Can you find the noun and underline it and circle the pronoun? The first one has been done for you.

Lesson 5 - Poetry Introduction: Equipment:

Activity 1 With an adult see if you can match the rhyming words then read the poem and choose a word to complete it. Activity 2 This time there are more lines to this poem and more words to choose. Which ones fit the best? Choose a word to fill in each of the blanks. Activity 3 Firework Night is a famous poem about celebrating Bonfire Night. Try and find a quiet space to read this poem to yourself. What do you think of the poem? Did you like it? Did it make you think of Bonfire/Firework Night?

Activity 1 Cut around the Easter eggs and then mix up the two parts of the egg. See if you can match the rhyming words?

Lesson 6 - Making Poetry Introduction: In this lesson you will be looking at creating your own poems. Then to finish you can an acrostic poem for your mother. Equipment:

• Worksheets Instructions: Activity 1 Just like last lesson, can you find some words to complete the poem? Activity 2 We can write a poem anyway we like. It doesn’t have to rhyme. Lesson 7 - Party Time! Introduction: In this lesson you will be work on your reading and writing and helping a monster create a party for all his woodland friends.

• Ingredients for treats Instructions: Activity 1 You are first of all going to practice some letter sounds. Read the words and then colour in the squares. What image does it reveal? Activity 2 The monster bear would like to hold a party for all the woodland animals. Can you help him by writing an invitation to all the animals in the woodland to join him? He also needs some help with what party food to provide. Can you create a menu for him? Finally, he would like to make some treats for his party. Can you read the instructions to an adult and make the treats to ensure they taste nice! Activity 3 Think about what it would be like to go to the party yourself. Can you write about the party by using the writing frame!

Activity 2 – Pride is the biggest Celebration in the LGBTQ community. Read the information and answer the questions. Activity 3 – If you’re feeling confident, activity 3 is more challenging. Have a go!
